The goal of this project is to combine the latest technologies from digital signal processing, music information retrieval, multimedia rendering, and speech recognition to construct an integrated environment for teaching/learning the chanting of Tang poetry over the Internet. The constructed system can effectively preserve the music information (ancient music scores) of Tang poetry. More importantly, it can promote the chanting of Tang poetry for the young generation. Music and literature are two of the most heart-touching parts of all kinds of art formats. The chanting of Tang poetry is the combination of these two art formats, which represent an important milestone of traditional Chinese art for many generations. The use of multimedia tools for the chanting of Tang poetry can not only lead the young generation to appreciate the beauty of Chinese literatures, but also help them to memorize the Tang poetry with great interests. With the foundation of previous related projects, we are aiming at constructing an integrated environment for preserving the music scores of Tang poetry, and for learning/teaching the chanting of Tang poetry. This is an important task toward preserving the traditional Chinese art of music and literature, and presenting it to the young generation in a totally new manner to let them appreciate the beauty of Tang poetry.
