快讯 Newsletter October 10 月 2016 Message from The Director Greetings! In the months of September and October, we had organised three public lectures for you: Confucius Institute Day was celebrated globally on 24 September. We joined in the celebrations by organising Appreciation of the early 1990s Chinese Films featuring works by Chinese filmmakers. Apart from screening three classic films in the day-long movie marathon, we also invited a well-known media specialist, Dr Foo Tee Tuan, to deliver a film appreciation talk. Another two public lectures, respectively on 8 and 15 October, were held at National Library Building. The former, History in Images: What Cartoons, Woodcuts and Advertisements Tell Us About the Pre-War Singapore Art Scene, was presented by Mr Yeo Mang Thong, who has done extensive research on the art history of Singapore. The latter, Chinese Education and the Global View of the Chinese Media, was delivered by Mr Zhang Miao Yang, the principal dubbing artiste at Phoenix Satellite Television. We were deeply encouraged by the overwhelming support by, and enthusiastic response from the public. My grateful thanks to all. On coming 院长致意 大家好! 19 and 20 November, the spotlight is on Navigating the Forest of Chinese Heritage, two days of fun and enriching activities presented by the teachers of our Top Chinese Enrichment Programme for parents and their children. We look forward to a delightful time with you! We have just published Pre- Qin Confucianism: A Comparative Perspective and An Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The two publications are Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the CI-NTU Academic Series. You can purchase them directly from our institute or at major book stores. 状元学堂 Top Chinese Enrichment Programme Adventure Time! Navigating the Forest of Chinese Heritage 文化森林嘉年华活动 Confucius Institute warmly invites you and your family to join us on 19 and 20 November 2016! Discover the joy of learning Chinese language and culture, as you and your child navigate through the various pit-stops specially designed to invoke a deeper understanding and interest in our Chinese heritage. Parents, you can join us for a series of educational seminars over 2 days while your child is kept busy navigating through our games and activities. 课成程人 ACLP Adult Chinese Learning Programme CI-NTU Inaugural Gathering Sessions with NIE and HSS Students 南大孔院专业文凭课程首次与南大国立教育学院和人文与社会科学学院举办交流会 This year, Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI- NTU) successfully organized its first Gathering Sessions with Asian Languages & Cultures Academic Group, National Institute of Education (ALC, NIE) and School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). In order to promote communication among students, CI-NTU, NIE and HSS will take turns to organise an annual gathering. The four participating programmes include the Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language (DTCL) and Diploma in Business Translation and Interpretation Skills (DBTS) of CI-NTU, Master of Arts in Teaching Chinese as an International Language (MATCIL) of NIE and Masters of Arts in Translation and Interpretation (MTI) of HSS. The inaugural session for DTCL and MATCIL was held on 10 September at NIE. The welcome speeches were delivered by Associate Professor Aw Guat Poh, Assistant Head of ALC and Dr Neo Peng Fu, Director of CI-NTU. Soon after, Ms Xiong Huali, Head of Chinese at the Canadian International School, shared her knowledge and experience on teaching Chinese language at international schools. Through vivid examples, Ms Xiong emphasized the importance of professionalism and the capability of a teacher, and introduced an effective methodology to plan and conduct classes. This helped students gained insights of the Chinese language teaching situation in Singapore. Students participated actively in the discussion and many expressed that they have benefitted from the sharing session. The DBTS also has its first gathering session with students of MTI on 13 August 2016. After the introduction by Dr Helena Gao, Programme Director of MTI, and Dr Ho Yi Kai, Manager of ACLP, CI-NTU, students had a clearer picture of both programmes and the possibilities for further education and upgrading. Students from the two programmes exchanged thoughts on translation practice and the prospects in the translation and interpretation industry. 今年, 南洋理工大学孔子学院首次与国立教育学院亚洲语言文化学部和人文与社会科学学院举办交流会, 并取得圆满成功 为促进南洋理工大学各院学生的交流, 孔院与国立教育学院中文系国际汉语硕士 ( 汉硕 ) 人文与社会科学学院笔译与口译硕士 ( 译硕 ) 两个课程决定于今年开始分别联办常年交流会, 每年轮流负责 2016 年 9 月 10 日, 孔院汉语国际教育专业文凭课程学员与汉硕学生的首届交流会在国立教育学院成功举办 此次交流会还邀请到了具有丰富教学经验的加拿大国际学校中文部主任熊华丽老师做专题演讲 在教育学院中文系助理主任胡月宝教授和孔院院长梁秉赋博士致辞后, 熊老师分享了她对 国际学校的中文教学 的实践与看法, 通过真实生动的案例介绍了中文教师应备的专业素养和能力以及如何组织课堂教学的有效方法, 帮助学生更好地了解了本地的中文教学情况 在问答环节中, 两院学生踊跃提问, 与老师深入探讨中文教学课题, 不少学生表示从此次交流中获益良多 翻译课程方面, 孔院商务翻译及口译专业文凭课程学生则与译硕班于 8 月 13 日成功举办了两院的首届交流会 在交流会上, 译硕项目主任高虹教授和孔院课程总监何奕恺博士分别介绍了两院课程概况, 学生们也对彼此的专业课程有了更深入的认识, 并了解了更多持续进修和深造的机会 当天, 两院学生们进行了深度交流, 分享了彼此对翻译实践的想法与对学科的展望 4 Confucius Institute, NTU Newsletter 快讯
Confucius Institute Day Appreciation of the Early 1990s Chinese Films 孔子学院日 1990 年代的中国作者电影赏析会 It was a bustling day at CI-NTU on 24 September 2016. The audience, comprising people from all walks of life, joined us on a meaningful Saturday to celebrate Confucius Institute Day 2016. This year, the highlight of the event is the screening of Chinese films of the early 1990s. About 200 attendees watched three classics directed by renowned directors. CI-NTU Director, Dr Neo Peng Fu gave a welcome address. The keynote speaker, Dr Foo Tee Tuan of UniSIM Centre for Chinese Studies, shared his insights on the films Farewell My Concubine directed by Chen Kaige, Not One Less by Zhang Yimou and Seventeen Years by Zhang Yuan. Before each screening, Dr Foo gave a short introduction of the film and asked the audience to focus on certain aspects of the film. During the discussion session, Dr Foo reviewed the development of the Chinese film industry in the early 1990s, and pointed out that filmmakers back then thrived in a challenging environment. Furthermore, as representative works of the Chinese film industry in the 1990s, the three films bear the hallmarks of their respective directors. These directors made bold statements through their films. During the post-screening discussion, members of the audience said that they would like the Institute to conduct more film sessions like this. The Confucius Institute Day programme ended with a rapturous round of applause. 2016 年 9 月 24 日是热闹非凡的一天 我院喜迎四方宾客, 共同庆祝 2016 年环球孔子学院日, 与大家度过了一个充实而有意义的周六 今年的孔子学院日 本院是以 1990 年代的中国作者电影 为主轴, 与到场的约两百位公众重温三位享有盛誉的中国导演的经典作品 院长梁秉赋博士主持了本场活动, 新跃大学新跃中华学术中心副主任 传媒学研究者符诗专博士受邀担任主讲人, 为这三部电影作评介与赏析 本次播映的三部影片分别是陈凯歌的 霸王别姬 张艺谋的 一个都不能少 和张元的 过年回家 影片播放伊始, 符博士对该片进行简要的介绍, 并提醒观众注意片中的细节, 如 一个都不能少 中魏敏芝的冒险历程与古典英雄的 圆圈式 历险旅程的对照 在交流 赏析环节, 符博士带着大家回顾了 1990 年代中国电影工业的发展历程, 指出中国作者电影在备受挑战的环境里茁壮成长 并且, 作为上世纪 90 年代中国电影工业的代表作品, 这几部影片都带有导演的鲜明特色 同时, 这三位导演具有很强的企图心, 试图将自己想说的话通过电影表达出来 现场观众在互动环节中纷纷表示, 希望南大孔子学院今后多举办类似的电影播映 交流活动, 以飨同好 活动在热烈的掌声中落下帷幕 October 10 月 5
CI-NTU New Publications 南洋理工大学孔子学院最新丛书 Our latest publication series is out! 本院最新丛书出版了! 认识中医 主编 : 吴再池编著 : 南大中医诊所 An Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine Chief Editor: Goh Chye Tee Contributor: NTU Chinese Medicine Clinic 比较视野下的先秦儒学 国际学术研讨会论文集 主编 : 梁秉赋李晨阳 Pre-Qin Confucianism: A Comparative Perspective Edited by: Neo Peng Fu, Li Chenyang The CI-NTU Academic Series features academic books and suitable teaching and reference materials for professionals and general learning. Volumes 1 and 2 of the series are Pre-Qin Confucianism: A Comparative Perspective and An introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine respectively. The former is a collection of the papers presented at the Academic Conference on Pre-Qin Confucianism organised by CI-NTU and the Philosophy Programme of NTU School of Humanities and Social Sciences on 5 and 6 December 2015. The Conference had the honour of having more than 10 local and overseas scholars prominent in Confucianism studies presenting papers. The proceedings from the Conference is hereby published so that the fruits of the scholars research will benefit more people. An Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine was written to complement the course Introductory Course In Traditional Chinese Medicine offered by CI-NTU, which is also a useful reference book for keen learners in TCM. The book explains the basic theories and concepts which include the yin-yang principle, diagnosis, methods of treatment, acupuncture, herbal medication and so on. Food therapy, tuina and ways of maintaining good health are also introduced. In addition, the book also highlights common medical conditions such as diabetes, infertility, spleen and stomach restoration and stress-induced health problems. It explains how TCM diagnoses and treats a condition. Through the book, readers will have a broader and deeper understanding of the Chinese medicine. By adopting a holistic approach towards health issues, readers knowledge and options with regards to personal healthcare and treatment will be expanded, thereby achieving the goal of seeking the best course of action to prevent and treat an ailment.
