Students will gain knowledge about the economic terms and communication strategies, learn to use the language in real business settings, acquire basic skills in reading economic news in Chinese, and more importantly, have a better cultural awareness about the Chinese business world. Learning Objectives The course provides students with a clearer view of the business scene in Taiwan and in China, and a better understanding of Chinese culture. The main purpose is to teach students how to following language skills of Mandarin Chinese to the knowledge. The weekly plan includes: Listening and Speaking Drills 1.5 hours Vocabulary Practice and Test 1 hour Task and Activities 1.5 hours Course Prerequisites N/A Methods of Instruction Interactive lectures, role plays, card games, audio-visual aids, etc. Assessment and Final Grade Attendance & Performance: 20% Class participation: 20% Homework Assignment: 15% Midterm Exam: 20% Final Exam: 25% Course Requirements Students are required to review words and grammar and be able to answer questions based on the dialogue. 1
Attendance and Class Participation Attendance is mandatory, and preparation for class is a must. One unexcused absence will result in losing 3% of your attendance grade, two in 6 % and three in all attendance percentage. Five absences will result in a failing grade automatically. No make-up quizzes for unexcused absences. Missed quizzes due to health and other emergency reasons must be pre-arranged. 2
