A research of left-handed writing students writing abilities and arts of calligraphy Abstract Most elementary teachers, in Taiwan, have difficulties to instruct left-handed writing students. Parents of those left-handed writing students always force their children to write in right hand. To understand if the anti-nature learning way would make left-handed writing students being confused and problematic while they are writing is the motive for this research. The main purpose of this research is to explore the proper ways of learning for those left-handed students. The specific objects are: (1) to explore the mental and physical problems that left-handed writing students encounter in school and in their growth, (2) to explore the problems of writing in left hand and to develop the proper cognition and concepts, (3) to explore left-handed writing students abilities and arts of handwriting and calligraphy, (4) to develop the proper strategies of handwriting teaching and calligraphy teaching. The subjects of this research are left-handed writing students of low, middle, high grades from Shin Yi elementary school of Keelung city. Also, teachers and parents of those specific students are included. The methodology of this research includes literature review, questionnaire surveys, and focus group observing, participant observation and interviewing. The researcher concludes this study with several findings. Accordingly, some suggestions were proposed in the final section.
