Life adaptation and adult primary education of foreign spouses from southeast asia Example of Chung-Cheng elementary supplement school in Jubei City M09119060
I
Abstract Recently there are more and more foreign spouses in Taiwan. We call them new and developing immigrants. These foreign spouses consist mostly of women. According to statistics from the National Police Administration s Foreign Department, the nationalities of those foreign female spouses (later called foreign spouses for short) are mainly Vietnam and Indonesia. When the amount of foreign spouses increase, social problems are also increasing gradually. This situation is very important and we could not ignore. Those foreign spouses in my research are selected from the Chung-Cheng elementary supplement school in Jubei City. I choose this school because it is nearby my dwelling and I also could prove some hypotheses as listed below: 1. The teachers of supplement school could refer to some situations from foreign spouses, such as learning condition, interaction, recognition, and performance, to understand whether learning is helpful for life? 2. Would foreign spouses increase learning ability if they study in school? Is learning Chinese language urgent for foreign spouses? 3. By studying in school, would foreign spouses improve their relationship with others except listening, speaking, reading, and writing? 4. Increasing in Chinese ability and relationship, would foreign spouses improve their life quality better and overcome some living troubles, like handling business, going to a doctor, having a job, or joining with social activities by themselves. The achievement of this research finds out foreign spouses have these characteristics: 1. Difficult adaptation in life: they always persecute with language. 2. Motivation of studying in school: they need to learn how to read and write in Chinese. 3. Relationship: they always contact with persons from the same country, coworkers, and family members. 4. Learning attitude: they are concentrated, conscientious, and positive. 5. Learning interaction: fine. 6. No obvious difference of recognition. 7. Learning performance: people with high educational background and young age have good learning performance. II
Finally, based on my research I make some suggestions for: 1. foreign spouses 2. families of foreign spouses 3. schools 4. social welfare institutions 5. definition and execution of all policies. Key words Foreign spouses Life adaptation Elementary supplement school Lifelong education III
