A Study of Children s Poetry by Lin Huan-Chang Chen, Chun-Yu National Taitung Teachers College The Graduate Institute of Children s Literature Abstract Lin Huan-Chang, the poet who devoted to the field of Children s literature and made great contributions in this world. In recent years, he makes himself busy in the activities of promoting the Children s literature across the Strait. His passion and enthusiam toward Children s Poetry shown in his enrichment of creating his own children s verse, his eagerly promotion for Children s Poetry during the period that he worked as an chief editor of The Quarterly of Cuckoo Poetry, and his six various style selected editions of Children s verse. In the second chapter of this thesis, researcher discusses the relation between Lin Huan-Chang and Children Poetry from four aspect: the poet Lin Huan-Chang and Children s literature, the origin of Lin Huan-Chang s Children s Poetry works, the publications of his works, and Lin Huan-Changhis versus editorship for children s poetry. Lin Huan-Chang started writing modern poetry when he was at the age of 21. He also wrote poems for children since the year1973. He is a poet who can writes for both adults and children, and still active in creating poems nowadays. Within his works for children, many critics reckoned that they have highly artistic value and deepen imagination. This research aims at the critique, analyzes his 13 published personal children s poetry collection which included 274 poems, one by one. Conducting four unique poetic elements that taken here: material choosing, the usage of image, rhetoric and the form of writing poem. The results are then applied in Chapter three and Chapter four, which discusses the writing material, passion and imagination of Lin s children s poetry, and analyses the aesthetics of imagination, rhyme, and diction of Lin s works for children. The Conclusion compares the related reports about Lin Huan-Chang with the contents of his Children s Poetry, discovering how his real life influences his creations. This Chapter also classifies Lin s works into the early years creation and the recent years work, hoping to find a clearer point of view for understanding the transition of Lin s children s poetry creation.
