5 The Effect of Multiple Intelligences Science Teaching on Elementary School Students Scientific Creativity Liang Yu Chen ABSTRACT This study tried to investigate the effect of Multiple Intelligences Science Teaching on elementary school students scientific creativity. The subjects were selected by the convenience sampling method from two classes of the fifth-grade students at an elementary school in Taichung County. The students of this research were divided into two groups, the treatment group and the control one. The treatment group was taught by the Multiple Intelligences Science Teaching method designed by the researcher, but the control group was taught by traditional teaching method following the instructions in the teachers handbook of science. Before the formal teaching experiments, pre-tests such as the Science Creativity Test and the Elementary School Students Science Creativity Assessment were administered to students in both groups. Right after each treatment, two groups were tested respectively by using different versions of the previous creativity tests. All test scores were analyzed by using t-test, one-way ANOVA and one-way ANCOVA to find any effects of this new teaching method. Besides, data collected by the scientific creativity individual interview and classroom observation were also analyzed. The findings of this research are listed as follows: A. The performance of scientific creativity by different genders: The scores of two creative tests show no significant difference in different genders of students, either before or after accepting teaching experiments. Besides, the individual interviews also triangulated to confirm such results. B.The performance of scientific creativity from different groups: Before the experiment, the performance of two creative tests show no significant difference between two groups. The individual interviews also demonstrate the same results. However, the scores of the treatment group are higher than those of the control group in both creative tests, after accepting two stages of teaching experiment. In particular, the scores of the treatment group on The Elementary School Students Science Creativity Assessment show significant differences ( p.05) and are much higher than those of the control group. Meanwhile, students response and performance in the individual interview and during the class for the treatment group are also better than the control group, in accordance with the results from iii

Based on the findings of this study, some suggestions are finally recommended for future researchers or school teachers who are interested in applying the Multiple Intelligences to science teaching in order to help elementary school students promote their scientific creativity.
