Designer 设计师 Honeycomb Club Chair 蜂巢俱乐部椅 N ikolai and Simon Haas are twin brothers, and they were born into an artist family. Their father is a painter and sculptor and their mother a writer and opera singer. They spent a carefree childhood in Austin in Texas. Father taught them sculpture and architecture, which laid a solid foundation for their design career later. The brothers grew up together till they were 19 years old. Simon went to Rhode Island School Of Design (RISO for short) to learn painting and architecture. Nikolai moved to New York and became a musician. In 2007, the twin brother reunited and moved to Los Angeles. Their outstanding talent was gradually recognized by more and more people. Many people came out of admiration for their talents. The brothers began to receive some small programs in design and architecture. Two years later, they created many marvelous works in the small studio in the center of Los Angeles, including chairs for Cubist club and Oriole Club, angle wings for Lady Gaga and a silvery pyramid for Ryan Heffington. 170
Stud Club Chair 铆钉俱乐部椅 At 2013 Milan Furniture Exhibition, the brothers designed a new series of luxury furniture for Versace Home at the invitation of Donatella Versace. The furniture, with black and gold as the main colors, is permeated with a rock-and-roll style. It is wrapped by rhombic honeycomb brass strips, with black leather sewn with Medusa patterns. The series include 12 pieces of furniture, involving 3 chairs, 1 sofa, 1 bench and 2 tables. The Donatella chair, prepared with inspiration from Donatella Versace, is particularly eye-catching. It s made of honeycomb brass and black leather, and it truly represents the personal style of Donatella Versace. In addition, the Stud Club chair and The Bondage Bench, made with inspiration from "Bondage" created by Gianni Versace in 1992, can both be rated as classic works. In spite of different personalities, the brothers can also create ingenuous works from wild imagination. Their magnificent and excellent design springs from their solid craftsmanship and unusual imagination power. Now, their studio is becoming bigger and bigger. They hope they are not confined in the narrow field of furniture design. For them, design has wider significance, and design itself is a life that exists to create things people have never seen before. D 171
