16 A Multi-dimensional Dialogue among Activism, Feminism, Sociology, and Social Work Practicum: An Examination of Research on Spousal Violence in Taiwan Jou -Juo Chu Department of Labor Relations, National Chung-Cheng University Liou -Chiao Wu Department of Child Care, Fooyin University Abstract There has been a relatively abundant amount of studies related to spousal violence in Taiwan. They can be divided into four categories which include perspectives from Activism, Feminism, soci ology, and social work practicum. In regard with perspectives of Activism, the factors and influence of domestic violence are discussed from the micro viewpoint of an actor. The studies of this category focus on the personalities of the perpetrators and victims as well as the mental and physical impact experienced after an assault. Studies adopting Feminist perspectives explore conflicts between a husband and wife as well as the influences from the struggle of gender and power in Feminist Social Constructivism. As for studies concerning sociological perspectives, they study the factors that influence conflicts between a husband and a wife based on social and cultural structures. From resource theory, the tangible and intangible resources that influence the patterns of dealing with a couple s conflicts are examined. In regards to social work practicum, prevention of domestic violence and a professional network staff s perceptions of the Anti-domestic Violence Law are discussed as well. In Taiwan, spousal violence, studied from different perspectives, reflects a multi-dimensional dialogue, which helps us understand our domestic violence very well. Lastly, based on the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of Taiwan s research on domestic violence, this study suggests that further empirical research be conducted from the viewpoints of Social Control Theory, and Resource Theory-based Multiple Theory paradigms. And in order to discuss the authority structure of the family of origin of domestic violence, this study suggests that further research can integrate the concept of gender stratification of power control theory with social control theory. Reconstructing a social control theory model compare to resource theory model in order to localize our spousal violence theory. Key words: Spousal Violence; Activism, Feminism, Sociological perspective, Social Work Practicum
