Casablanca is Morocco's largest port city, along Atlantic. European call this city Casablanca and its official name is called "Darbaida". Casablanca is near the Atlantic Ocean.

7 Casablanca, Morocco 1. City Profile Part IV Hotel Information Casablanca gets its name from Spanish, meaning "white house". It is largest city in Morocco. Hollywood movie "Casablanca" makes the city more famous worldwide. As "Casablanca" known to all, "Darel Beida", the former name of the city, is unfamilar. Casablanca is Morocco's largest port city, along Atlantic. European call this city Casablanca and its official name is called "Darbaida". Casablanca is near the Atlantic Ocean. The weather here is really nice. The climate here is mild in the entire year. The average temperature comes to 12 in January, and in August only 23. The average rainfall is 400 mm every year. Sometimes the Atlantic Ocean waves rolls, but it is unpredictable in Casablanca port. More than 500 years ago, Casablanca was an old town. In medieval, Islam was introduced into Casablanca, making the local economy developed rapidly. At the end of the eighteenth century, the Spaniards got the privilege of trading in this port, and call it Casablanca. At the beginning of the 20th century, Casablanca was occupied by France, then it became the center of power to France in Africa. After its independence Morocco reused the name Darbetta, but people still called it Casablanca. Overlooking the city from the sea, the blue sky and the sea is up and down, and a high and low white outline is in the middle. North and south stretches tens of kilometers of fine sand beach, which is the best natural swimming pool. Coastal hotels, restaurants and a variety of recreational facilities nestled in rows of tall palm trees and orange trees, which is unique. As early as Morocco to be a French protectorate period, it was put into a huge modern metropolis. 9 [Map] 3. Tourism Hassan Ⅱ Mosque The Hassan II Mosque, the third largest mosque in the Islamic world, is second only to the mosque in Mecca and Medina, and the most modern mosque in the world. To commemorate the construction of the king's sixties, it is the only one that is opened to foreigners. The mosque is also the largest mosque that non-muslims can enter legally. The mosque was built on the beach, because the king received the words of Allah's true God: "The throne of Allah should be built on the water" in his dream. The mosque occupied 9 hectares, 200 meters long and 100 meters wide. Its roof can be opened and closed, and 25 dome east gates are all made of titanium alloy, which can resist seawater corrosion. The mosque was built in 1987 and lasted for five years. Cost 580 million Euros, it was designed by a French designer Michel Pinseau. The whole building is magnificent with a capacity of 100,000 people. Hassan II king reigned for more than 30 years, who was noble, diligent and worried about people s life, and gained considerable prestige among the masses. As believed that all his success was due to the guidance of Allah, he decided to build a large mosque in the western part of Morocco's Muslim world to thank Allah and name it in his own name. The whole mosque has no chair or stool, for it is convenient to worship as

10 well as to chat by sitting on the ground. Since the teachings of Islam clearly stipulates that: Islam worships a unique, invisible supreme master of Allah, which prohibits all forms of idolatry. So in the whole mosque, there is no statue, just covered with a variety of mosaics and color pictures. Mohammed Ⅴ Square The square is located in the municipal administrative center, which contains many 1920s buildings, most of which are influenced by Hispanic Muslim architecture and decorative arts. It has elegant arcade and white facade, gold colored stone decorations. One of its most striking buildings was Prefecture (Wilaya), which was completed by Muhammad V in It features a beautiful tropical garden, as well as paintings by a French designer Louis Leile. You can see Casablanca from a 50-meter-high tower. There are many pigeons on the square. Mohammed V is regarded as "the Father of a nation" in Morocco. On August 1957, Morocco changed to kingdom, he is the throne, called Muhammad V. He made great success in many aspects: in politics, he carried out "constitutional reform"; in military, he rebuilt the kingdom army; in the economy, he put the economic policies of protecting national industry and restrict foreign capital into effect, and formulated a two-year plan for economic development ( ) and a five-year plan ( ). Muhammad V also attached importance to the development of cultural and educational undertakings. As for diplomacy, Muhammad V pursued an independent and non-aligned policy to support the struggle of African countries such as Algeria for independence. Rick s Cafe Casablanca is famous for a film of the same name. The bar is a memorial to the film. The film also named North Africa Campaign. In 1941, during the Second World War, under Nazi s heel, people have to cross the north city of Morocco named Casablanca. Under this background, the situation in Casablanca becomes tensed. A businessman named Rick opened a bar, with many different kinds of people in it. Rick holds precious passports. When Victor, an important Anti Nazi officer, and his wife Ilsa cross the city, Ilsa and Rick, the former lovers, love each other again. Ilsa and Rick feel anguished to make a choice between their love and politics. Finally, for the peace of human, Rick gives up the divine love with Ilsa, and protects the couple to leave the city safely. In the end, Rick also joined the army and fight for the liberation of France and human peace. There are some banana trees planted at the doorway and on the balcony. The doorplate of the bar records its history. Since it recreates the scene of the film named Casablanca, many film lovers come here and enjoy its atmosphere. The structure in the bar is almost similar to the film, only changes black and white to color. Everywhere is full of flowers, the lights in Moroccan style, and other ornaments, and waiters dress still retains the style of the film. At the right side of the stairs leading to the second floor is a little elegant coffee bar, with the film s poster on the wall, and big screen on one side plays the film every night. There is a large bar counter in the bar, with many kinds of red wine and foreign wine. The piano in the film still lies quietly in the corner, as if the black artist in the film still sits in front of it with As Time Goes By flowing in his fingers.
