4 Abstract Action Research on Teaching of Child Painting Creation Introduced through Appreciation of Child Poetry - An example of a senior class at Kuei Shan Elementary School, Taoyuan County This research on teaching originates from an occasion when I observed students painting. I am trying to combine teaching activities with languages and painting so as to develop a course of painting creation through the appreciation of child poetry. It is hoped that the execution and performance of the course, and difficulties facing in class and how to solve them can be understood. In addition, I can obtain professional growth through this process. I chose a 6 th grade class at Kuei Shan Elementary School in the school year 2002 as my research subject. I was working in a coordinate way to design courses and engage in teaching. During this period, information and documents were gathered by participations, observations, and interviews. The gathered information is to be used as references for repeatedly amended courses. Though the process of repeated actions, examinations and introspections, the research comes to the following conclusions: (1) In this research, I am trying to work child literature together with activities of fine arts on the development of the courses of fine arts and crafts. Firstly start with a great volume of child poetry selection and form them into topic subjects, then have them developed step-by-step and make unit courses in a unified and flexible way. In an end, five unit courses - Child Painting Creation through Appreciation of Child Poetry have been finalized. Child poetry appreciation in the course is designed as a question-thought-oriented teaching method. I have created a two-way interactive teaching, and designed various auxiliary teaching activities to achieve better learning effects. (2) Through the teaching of child poetry appreciation, students can be easily involved in the content of painting, mainly because of having references for painting conceiving when in creation. In addition, during the courses, students show intense interests and III

5 have fun in learning. (3) The research team do not think the courses of Child Painting Creation through Appreciation of Child Poetry are suitably carried out in a row. Furthermore, if students do not understand the meaning of the course, the child poetry appreciation may bring out negative impact on students painting creation; the teaching I designed too much emphasis on child poetry appreciation may make the aspect of students painting skills be weaker. To make up the above shortcoming, this course is designed with increasing variations of teaching tissues and elements. On the teaching, we are trying more varied modes and enhancing the teaching of painting skills in a hope that we can provide well-developed and even more complete courses to promote students overall painting performance. (4) On the research process of developing courses Child Painting Creation through Appreciation of Child Poetry, I have learned and upgraded my skills in the technical aspect of the research as well as in the aspect of painting teaching. On other subjects of teaching, because of the research process, I have also gained positive results in terms of student-and-teacher relations. Finally, the findings and conclusion in this research bring out some concrete and feasible suggestions respectively on course design, teaching and future research as references for relevant teaching and research departments.
