2 Difficulty and Solution to Values Education In China: Multicutural Challenge Zhi Ding Shu * Abstract Multiculturalism forces us to reflect on the difficulties of values education and to search for solutions. This paper analyzes the current values education, an education influenced by democratic, scientific, utilitarian and individualist ideologies, and on its problems in dealing with social responsibility, science and humanities, life beliefs and ideals, individual and social identity, etc., which are essential to school missions of human cultivation, socio-cultural transmission and innovation. For these reason, uphold of core values of society, establishment of school norms, enhancement of teacher development, and innovation of educational methods are strongly suggested for any effective values education.
