0 7 000 998 Fan Wenlan's Confucianism Classics Research and His Historiography Zhou Wenjiu Abstract Fan Wenlan a Marxist historian was quite knowledgeable at Confucianism Classics. He received an education in Sinology Department of Peking University and was greatly influenced by the Old Text Confucianism masters at that time. His early writings WENXINDIAOLONGJIANGSHU WENXINDIAOLONGZHU QUNJINGGAILUN clearly indicated that he stood in the line of the Old Text Confucianism. He studied and narrated systematically the history of Confucianism Classics by viewpoints of Marxism for two times which were important milestones in Confucianism Classics history research trying to get rid of the prejudices of the New Text Confucianism and the Old Text Confucianism. The first time was in 90s when he lived in Yan an and the second time was after the establishment of PRC. Writing a perfect general history of China was Fan's life goal. His work ZHONGGUOTONGSHI JIANBIAN remained close relationship with his attainments of Confucianism Classics and the training of Old Text Confucianism in his early years which can be reflected in many aspects such as ethnic thoughts historical material thoughts research characteristics styles of writing and so forth.
