It p roves the im2 About the D ifferen t Styles of Ch inese Anc ien t L itura ture ZENG Zao2zhuang Chinese classical literature may be classified by styles into three categories: literaray, non2literary and ambiguous. L iterariness makes a possible but not absolute criterion of classification. Some works that are stylistically classified into non2literary category may be well2known for their literariness, while some stylistically literary worksmay be in want of literariness. L iterariness is determ ined by the work itself rather than by its style. Standard styles and their variations are natural outcome of the development of literature, while deviations from standard styles often involve efforts for novelty and breakthrough. Concep ts of the W estern and modern literature shouldn t be app lied indiscrim inately to studies of Chinese classical literature without considering its reality. An Academ ic Affa ir of the Collected W orks of J ING2An PENG Yu2p ing The mainly contents of the collected works of J ING2An comp iled in 1905 were WANG Guo2wei s study achievements of philoso2 phy and pedagogy, but the colleted works had been leaved out from the posthumous work of WANG Guo2wei arouse many disputes which was the first comp lete works of WANG after he departed. This paper holds that WANG had ever burnt the collected works of J ING2An in Japan which said by LUO Zhen2yu in the biography ofwang Guo2wei was credible, and LUO leave it out was p robably wanted to maintain the pure feature of corpora and respected WANG s own will. WANG expected to rebuild new Chinese culture but acquired very littler that p romoted his susp icion of western philosophy and caused his academ ic transformation from philosophy to liter2 ature and to the traditional Chinese learning based on the serial year s study at last. The collected works of J ING2An had been burned bywang Guo2wei was an important signal and a sp iritual symbol of his academ ic transformation. HUA Tuo in Susp ic ion: H istor ica l Pa th of Surgery in Anc ien t Ch ina YU Geng2zhe The reputation of HUA Tuo s Surgery has experienced a U2shaped course during the past 1 000 years. H is surgical skills had a good reputation before his death but was suspected by later generation. It was until modern times that the skill was re2acknowledged by the traditional medicine. Soon after his death, surgery was gradually excluded by mainstream medical science. A s the remains of sur2 gery were mainly the small surgery on body surface while lacking in surgery on abdom inal cavity, HUA Tuo s surgical skills seemed to be so incredible that some peop le regarded them as myths and legends. Chinese began to believe that HUA Tuo s Surgery m ight in2 deed existe until the modern western medicine s achievements exposed to them. Basing on the idea that the W estern learning origina2 ted from China, some intellectuals highly p raised HUA Tuo s surgery skills to rebuild national self2confidence. From some aspects, the shifts of the reputation of HUA Tuo s surgical skills reflected the p rocess of the development of Chinese traditional surgery and it also showed Chinese delicate mentality since the W estern learning sp read to China in modern times.
