The Transition from a Tour Guide to an Organic Tea Farmer -- Perspective Transformation. This study investigated the life course of an organic tea farmer, Mr. Hsieh Hsien Hung, who experienced transitions from a tour guide to a tea farmer and then to an organic tea farmer. He had suffered from adversities and challenges during that span; however, he fulfilled his dream of establishing an organic tea farm with determination and perseverance. I n order to highlight the value of the organic agriculture, this study explored the meaning and value of organic tea from perspectives of the education promoters, the distributors and the consumers, conducting in- depth semi- structured interviews. Research data from field observations and interviews was analyzed via template analytic techniques. The result of the analysis showed that organic tea production does good to both iii
producers and consumers. The underlying reasons why Mr. Hsieh withstood the difficulties, from the beginning to the end, can be summarized as the followings: First, the organic tea does good to one s health. He can produce good things for consumers and promote the concept of healthy eating to the consumers. Second, he considered production of organic tea altruism, which will not only benefit consumers but also protect the ecology and environment. He has viewed production of the organic tea a life- long career. Third, he developed and shaped the value of his personal life from the process of producing the organic tea. Fourth, by means of producing the organic tea, one can make a contribution to the environment as well as maintain environmental and sustainable development of ecology.
