5 壹 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 一 測 驗 簡 介 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 是 專 為 母 語 非 華 語 者 所 研 發, 為 一 套 標 準 化 的 語 言 能 力 測 驗, 從 2001 年 開 始 籌 劃, 由 國 立 臺 灣 師 範 大 學 國 語 教 學 中 心 華 語 文 教 學 研 究 所 與 心 理 教 育 測 驗 中 心 三 個 研 究 團 隊 共 同 研 發 2003 年 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 正 式 對 外 開 辦 考 試, 至 今 考 生 國 籍 遍 布 全 球 六 十 多 個 國 家 為 使 本 測 驗 能 夠 與 國 際 語 言 標 準 接 軌, 提 供 考 生 能 夠 衡 量 其 語 言 能 力 的 國 際 評 量 工 具, 華 測 會 於 2008 年 積 極 著 手 研 擬 新 版 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗, 並 於 2013 年 正 式 推 出 新 版 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 共 分 為 四 類 測 驗 : 華 語 文 聽 力 測 驗 華 語 文 閱 讀 測 驗 華 語 文 口 語 測 驗 華 語 文 寫 作 測 驗, 其 測 驗 架 構 將 語 言 能 力 分 成 三 等 六 級, 三 等 分 別 為 入 門 基 礎 級 進 階 高 階 級 及 流 利 精 通 級, 而 每 一 等 又 可 再 依 據 測 驗 成 績 細 分 為 兩 級, 分 別 為 入 門 級 基 礎 級 進 階 級 高 階 級 流 利 級 精 通 級, 共 六 級, 應 試 者 可 依 自 己 的 學 習 背 景 或 語 言 能 力 選 擇 合 適 的 等 級 應 考 二 適 用 對 象 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 專 為 母 語 非 華 語 之 人 士 研 發, 適 用 對 象 相 當 廣 泛, 不 管 是 想 要 瞭 解 自 己 華 語 程 度, 或 是 想 要 在 使 用 華 語 的 國 家 求 學 工 作 或 進 行 貿 易 之 人 士, 均 可 報 名 參 加 考 生 可 以 依 據 自 己 的 學 習 背 景 或 能 力 選 擇 適 合 自 己 程 度 的 等 級 來 報 考 測 驗 等 級 建 議 學 時 ( 註 1) ( 在 說 華 語 地 區 ) 建 議 詞 彙 量 ( 註 2) 入 門 基 礎 級 入 門 級 小 時 500 基 礎 級 小 時 1000 進 階 高 階 級 進 階 級 小 時 2500 高 階 級 小 時 5000 流 利 精 通 級 流 利 級 小 時 精 通 級 1920 小 時 以 上 8000 備 註 : 1. 建 議 學 時 : 在 非 華 語 使 用 地 區 學 習 者 之 學 習 時 數 需 要 加 倍 計 算 例 如 : 報 考 基 礎 級 所 需 的 學 習 時 數 在 使 用 華 語 地 區 為 個 小 時, 相 當 於 在 非 華 語 使 用 地 區 學 習 個 小 時 2. 建 議 詞 彙 量 : 請 參 考 華 測 會 官 網 相 關 資 源 之 下 載 專 區 中 華 語 八 千 詞 內 容 ( 三 測 驗 用 途 通 過 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 等 級 標 準 者 將 取 得 證 書, 此 證 書 可 作 為 : 1. 臺 灣 獎 學 金 申 請 之 參 考 標 準 2. 海 外 聯 招 會 中 文 科 目 採 計 之 參 考 標 準 3. 臺 灣 大 專 院 校 招 收 外 籍 學 生 之 華 語 能 力 參 考 標 準 1

8 高 階 級 對 於 具 有 一 定 篇 幅 且 以 標 準 語 表 達 的 談 話 內 容, 包 括 專 攻 領 域 的 技 術 性 討 論, 不 論 內 容 抽 象 與 否, 都 能 聽 懂 要 點 大 意 流 利 精 通 級 : 著 重 在 語 言 使 用 的 廣 度 與 精 熟 度 等 級 流 利 級 能 力 說 明 能 聽 懂 各 種 抽 象 或 複 雜 主 題 的 話 語 內 容, 即 使 話 語 結 構 或 關 聯 性 可 能 不 夠 清 楚 明 確 ; 但 在 不 熟 悉 說 話 人 口 音 的 情 況 下, 可 能 需 要 特 別 確 認 部 分 細 節 精 通 級 能 聽 懂 語 言 不 規 範 或 帶 有 生 僻 專 業 術 語 的 演 講 廣 播 和 報 告 等 口 頭 連 貫 敘 述 的 內 容 ( 二 ) 華 語 文 閱 讀 測 驗 入 門 基 礎 級 : 著 重 在 日 常 生 活 的 一 般 簡 易 溝 通 能 力 等 級 入 門 級 能 力 說 明 在 有 視 覺 協 助 及 可 重 複 閱 讀 的 情 況 下, 能 掌 握 基 本 數 字 詞 彙 及 簡 單 的 短 語 並 能 大 致 理 解 句 子 內 容 基 礎 級 能 理 解 用 日 常 生 活 詞 彙 或 工 作 常 用 詞 彙 寫 成 的 簡 短 文 章 進 階 高 階 級 : 著 重 在 語 言 段 落 的 理 解 分 析 能 力 等 級 進 階 級 高 階 級 能 力 說 明 能 讀 懂 個 人 感 興 趣 的 主 題 或 與 專 攻 領 域 相 關 的 文 章 ; 前 提 是 文 章 以 淺 白 平 鋪 直 敘 的 方 式 寫 作 而 成 在 閱 讀 時 具 有 相 當 大 的 自 主 性, 能 因 應 不 同 的 文 本 及 目 的, 採 用 不 同 的 閱 讀 策 略 和 速 度 具 備 廣 泛 且 可 隨 時 提 取 的 閱 讀 詞 彙, 但 對 於 不 常 見 的 慣 用 語, 可 能 有 理 解 上 的 困 難 流 利 精 通 級 : 著 重 在 語 言 使 用 的 廣 度 與 精 熟 度 等 級 流 利 級 精 通 級 能 力 說 明 在 有 機 會 重 新 閱 讀 困 難 部 分 的 情 況 下, 不 論 主 題 是 否 與 個 人 專 攻 領 域 相 關, 都 能 讀 懂 長 篇 複 雜 文 本 的 各 項 細 節 能 理 解 幾 乎 所 有 書 寫 語 言 的 形 式, 包 括 抽 象 結 構 複 雜 或 者 相 當 口 語 化 的 文 學 或 非 文 學 作 品 等 4

11 四 測 驗 地 點 為 服 務 廣 大 之 考 生, 華 測 會 在 北 中 南 三 區 皆 設 有 考 場, 以 便 考 生 能 夠 就 近 赴 考 實 際 開 設 考 場 狀 況, 請 以 華 測 會 報 名 系 統 公 告 為 主 五 報 名 流 程 臺 灣 所 舉 辦 的 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗, 報 名 方 式 一 律 採 取 網 路 報 名, 請 由 華 測 會 官 網 首 頁 點 選 考 試 報 名 進 入 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 線 上 報 名 系 統 ( 臺 灣 ) 或 是 輸 入 網 址 如 果 是 第 一 次 使 用 線 上 報 名 系 統 的 考 生, 請 先 註 冊 新 帳 號, 已 完 成 註 冊 者, 請 在 首 頁 輸 入 帳 號 ( 即 護 照 號 碼 ) 和 密 碼, 按 登 入 即 可 馬 上 報 名 測 驗 登 入 後, 請 於 報 名 期 間 內 按 照 以 下 流 程 完 成 網 路 報 名 手 續, 並 於 繳 費 截 止 日 前 完 成 繳 費 ( 以 繳 費 單 所 印 日 期 為 準 ) 步 驟 一 : 我 要 報 名 請 先 選 擇 測 驗 考 場 步 驟 二 : 選 擇 考 試 請 選 擇 測 驗 場 次, 若 名 額 顯 示 為 0, 則 代 表 目 前 無 有 位 子 可 報 名, 考 生 可 以 直 接 點 選 選 擇 其 他 考 場 看 看 其 他 考 場 的 報 名 狀 況 7

12 步驟三 確認報名資料 1. 若想要取消考試 請選擇 移除 即可 2. 若想要報名其他 測驗場次 請選擇 上一步繼續選擇考試 就會回到 步驟一我要 報名 的畫面 請繼續選擇要報名的 測驗場次 3. 請再三確認選擇的 測驗時間 測驗類型 測驗等級 考場 有無問題 沒有問題請按 確認報名資料正確 4. 確認 報名資料 之後 請再檢查當初註冊的 個人資料 有沒有問題 若資料有錯誤 請在此處修改正確的資料 請注意 按 確認報名資料正確 之後 就無法在報名系統 上修改資料了 8

13 步 驟 四 : 填 寫 問 卷 請 填 寫 個 人 學 習 華 語 相 關 資 料 調 查, 三 個 月 填 寫 一 次 即 可 步 驟 五 : 列 印 繳 費 單 1. 請 點 選 列 印 繳 費 單 2. 為 確 保 列 印 檔 案 沒 有 問 題, 請 選 擇 儲 存, 將 檔 案 存 在 您 的 電 腦 硬 碟 裡 3. 列 印 繳 費 單, 請 參 考 繳 費 單 上 的 繳 款 方 式 完 成 繳 費 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 繳 費 單 注 意 事 項 : 1. 繳 款 方 式 : 請 於 繳 費 期 限 內 持 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 報 名 費 繳 費 單, 利 用 以 下 通 路 繳 費 : (1) 至 全 臺 7-ELEVEN 全 家 萊 爾 富 OK 便 利 商 店 繳 費 (2) 至 華 測 會 合 作 的 考 試 中 心 或 推 廣 中 心 繳 交 現 金 現 金 繳 費 地 點 請 見 華 測 會 官 網 查 詢 國 內 各 考 試 中 心 及 推 廣 中 心 聯 絡 資 訊 2. 若 因 印 表 機 列 印 品 質 問 題, 導 致 便 利 超 商 無 法 刷 出 條 碼 代 收 報 名 費 時, 請 重 新 列 印 或 是 選 擇 考 試 推 廣 中 心 現 金 繳 費 3. 逾 期 繳 費 者 請 登 入 報 名 系 統 重 新 報 名, 於 繳 費 截 止 日 內 持 新 的 華 語 文 能 力 測 驗 報 名 費 繳 費 單 完 成 繳 費 4. 完 成 繳 費 後, 請 妥 善 保 管 繳 費 單 第 二 聯 或 超 商 收 據, 以 供 繳 費 異 常 時 對 帳 或 申 請 退 費 之 用, 遺 失 者 恕 不 補 發 9

15 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language I. Introduction The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) is a standardized language proficiency test developed for non-native speakers of Chinese that has already served test-takers from over 60 countries. It is the result of a joint project of the Mandarin Training Center, the Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, and the Psychological Testing Center of National Taiwan Normal University. The research project began in 2001, and the first TOCFL tests were held in A new version of TOCFL was developed in 2008, and became available in The new version of the TOCFL test is divided into four subtests: TOCFL Listening, TOCFL Reading, TOCFL Speaking, and TOCFL Writing, and includes three proficiency bands: Band A, Band B, and Band C. Each band is divided into two levels making a total of six levels: Levels 1 to 6. Test-takers can choose the test levels that best suit their Chinese language proficiency and learning background. II. Target Test-takers TOCFL is a foreign language proficiency test for non-native speakers of Mandarin Chinese. Those who wish to know their level of Chinese proficiency, and those who want to study, work, or do business in Chinese-speaking countries or contexts are welcome to register for the test. The following table sets out the suggested learning hours of Mandarin Chinese, and suggested vocabulary base at each test level. People taking courses in countries where other languages are spoken generally require hours. 11

16 2. The suggested vocabulary list for each level can be found online at III. Purpose TOCFL test-takers who meet the requirements to pass the test(s) they have registered for will receive a certificate. The certificate can serve as evidence of Mandarin Chinese proficiency for: 1. Applying for a Taiwan Scholarship. 2. Applying for academic programs at colleges or universities in Taiwan. 3. Overseas Chinese students presenting material to University Entrance Committees. 4. Employment applications which require proof of Chinese language proficiency. A number of undergraduate and graduate programs in Taiwan now require a TOCFL certificate for admission or for evaluation of an applicant s proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Many international businesses in Taiwan, consider TOCFL scores when selecting staff for employee dispatch programs. Increasingly more overseas Chinese companies also take into account candidates having TOCFL certificates when recruiting. IV. Test Format Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language: Listening The TOCFL Listening-Band A has three sections: Picture Description, Single-round Dialogue and Multiple-round Dialogue. There are 50 multiple-choice questions altogether. The entire test takes approximately 60 minutes. The TOCFL Listening-Band B and Band C: Each has two sections: Dialogue and Monologue. There are 50 multiple-choice questions. The entire test takes approximately 60 minutes. 17 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language: Reading The TOCFL Reading - Band A has four sections: Sentence Comprehension, Picture Description, Gap Filling, and Paragraph Completion. There are 45 multiple-choice questions, and 5 matching questions. The entire test takes 60 minutes. TOCFL Reading - Bands B and C: Each has two sections: Gap Filling and Reading Comprehension. Each entire test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, and takes 60 minutes. The objective is to assess the competence of the test taker to effectively accomplish communication tasks verbally in different language contexts. 18 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language: Writing The TOCFL Writing Test is an evaluation of the test-taker's ability to use written materials to effectively transmit information in particular contexts. The level-based grading system is based on the appropriateness and substance of the test-taker's responses to situational tasks, compositional structure and completeness, correct syntax, and the use of a suitably wide range of appropriate vocabulary. The test tasks for Band A and for Band B are presented in the following table. Proficiency Descriptors Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language: Listening Band A Focus on simple basic communication ability in daily life Level Descriptor 1 Can understand basic phrases and familiar words provided that the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. 2 Can understand commonly used expressions and catch the main point in a short conversation when it is conducted slowly and clearly. Band B Focus on using understanding of contexts and analytical ability for comprehension Level Descriptor 3 Can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, including short narratives. 4 Can understand the main ideas of propositionally and linguistically complex speech on both concrete and abstract topics delivered in a standard dialect, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Band C Focus on the vocabulary extent and language proficiency Level 5 6 Descriptor Can understand enough to follow extended speech on abstract and complex topics beyond his/her own field even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implied and not signaled explicitly, though he/she may need to confirm occasional details, especially if the accent is unfamiliar. 23 IV. Test Venue Locations To provide a better service for TOCFL test-takers, SC-TOP will hold the formal tests at the following testing centers located in northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Select the testing center most convenient for you. Please refer to our On-line Registration System for details of the venues for each test. V. Registration Procedure Registration for all tests conducted in Taiwan is done online. Please go to the main page of the SC-TOP website and select Test Registration to enter the TOCFL Online Registration System (Taiwan), or go to the following address: If this is the first time you have used the online registration system, you need to Create a New Account using your passport number as your account name. After creating your account, please login by entering your account name and password on the main page and you can then immediately register for a test. After logging in, please follow the flowchart below to complete the online registration procedure within the registration period. Be sure to complete your registration payment before the deadline shown on your payment slip. Step 1: Register Please select a test location first. 19

24 Step 2: Choose Test Session Please select a Test Session. If the Seats Available column indicates that there are "0" seats available, this means that it is not possible to register for testing at that particular location. Test-takers can click on Choose another test site (just under the 5 Payment Slip heading) to see if a seat is available at another test venue. Step 3: Confirm Registration Details 1. If you want to cancel your test registration, please select Delete. 2. If you want to register for another test session, please select Previous procedure: Select test to return to the Stage 1: I want to register screen. Then select and register for the test session. 3. Please double-check your selections under the Test Date, Test Type, Band (Test level), and Venue headings. If there are no errors, please press Confirm registration information. 20

25 4. After confirming your registration information, please make sure that all details of the personal information that you have entered are correct. If you find any incorrect details, please make any corrections immediately. Please note that after pressing Confirm registration information, you will not be able to edit details of your personal information through the registration system. Step 4: Fill in Questionnaire Please enter your individual information into the Chinese-language learning questionnaire. The questionnaire must be updated every three months. 21

26 Step 5: Payment Slip 1. Please select Print Payment slip. 2. To ensure against the printed file having any problems, please select Save, and save the file to your hard drive. 3. Print the payment slip. Please refer to the Payment method on the slip for instructions on how to complete your payment. Note 1. Payment method: Please take the TOCFL Test Fee payment slip to pay before the deadline for payment: Pay at any convenience store (7-11, Family Mart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart) in Taiwan. Pay cash at the Testing or Promotion center (Please see link for testing/promotion centers.) 2. If you experience any problem trying to print out the payment slip at a convenience store, you can pay at the Testing/Promotion center 3. If you do not pay by the payment deadline you will need to login to the registration system to register again, and take the new payment slip to pay before the deadline shown. 4. Please keep the payment receipt or payment receipt slip. The receipt can be used for checking or confirming the payment, or for obtaining a refund if the test is cancelled. A payment receipt slip will NOT be reissued if it is lost. 22

TOCFL test-takers are not issued a test admission slip. A Test Notification Letter with detailed information related to the test location, procedures, and any other essential details will be sent to test-takers through their on-line account three days before the test. 2. For the date, times, and location of your test, please refer to the information presented in the Test Attendance Notification Letter. After you have registered and made the payment you will not be able to request a change of test session, or a test cancellation and refund on the day. 23

28 VI. Test Score Inquiries Test scores for the TOCFL Listening and TOCFL Reading tests are made known immediately upon completion of the test. On-line test score inquiries for the TOCFL Listening and TOCFL Reading tests may be made 20 days after the test date by logging onto the registration system at Test scores for the TOCFL Speaking and TOCFL Writing tests are available to be accessed on-line for 45 days after the test date. VII. Printed Score Report and Certificate 1. Test-takers will receive a printed test score report and certificate for each test that they pass. These will be mailed to the test-taker s address listed in the registration system. The TOCFL Listening test and TOCFL Reading test documents will be mailed 25 days after the test date; the TOCFL Speaking test and TOCFL Writing test documents will be mailed 50 days after the test date. 2. TOCFL test score reports and certificates are sent via domestic or international registered mail. Express delivery is available if the test-taker is willing to pay the extra postage. 24
