Contents Abstracts and Keywords The Orientation of Chinese Political Science Study Based on the Analysis of Political Science Doctoral Dissertations Sang Yucheng Zhou Guangjun Abstract Doctoral dissertations are the most important achievements during Doctoral students career as they could help the students to set up their future research direction and research methodology. Chinese political science Ph. D. program has cultivated a large number of political science Doctors however their dissertations have not been researched yet. In this paper we used the textual research method to do a descriptive analysis about the topic source subject classification subject demarcation and research paradigm of 69 political science dissertations which came from the top 10 universities of political science from 011 to 015. Furthermore we evaluated the contribution of introduction and innovation of Chinese political science and argued about the identity crisis between political science in China and Chinese political science. In order to provide and utilize unique knowledge reserve to promote our Chinese political science research and make contribution to political science Chinese political science research should absorb the shared political wisdom and explore the native accumulation of political practice. That is to say Chinese political science research should be based on its own value orientation and stick to its own reality concern and then practice its own experiences and establish its own theories. The direction foundation and frame of a new research approach rely on tidying and rethinking the academic history of political symbols under the background that political theories and practice have been changed tremendously. Political anthropologists put the power as the main direction of studies of political symbols gradually through the analysis of the specific role of symbols in the social structure and political process. The founders of the early political science built an independent psychological foundation for studies of political symbols by defining the relations between political symbols and the dispositional and situational factors. Scholars in the period of post-behaviorism politics constructed a systematic analytical framework preliminarily with the emphases of symbolic roles in administration system and generation models of symbolic meanings. Based on above analysis this article builds a symbolic politics approach which could provide some new research thoughts for expanding and deepening the studies of some core issues such as nation building governance and political culture and so on in the political practical category.
