1 PRSS RLS 2012 Hong Kong dvanced xamination Released The results of the 2012 Hong Kong dvanced xamination (HKL) will be released tomorrow (29 June). This year, a total of 41,572 candidates entered the examination which was similar to that of last year. Of the total candidates, 76% entered the examination as school candidates. The number of day school candidates attaining the general entrance requirements for admission to tertiary institutions is 18,212 this year, representing a similar percentage of day school candidates as last year. ltogether, 17 -level and 18 S-level subjects were examined. and nglish version papers were available for 28 subjects. The percentage of subject entries taken in was 34.8%, up 0.4% from last year. The results of S Language and ulture(l) are comparable to those of last year, with 1.9% of day school first attempters attaining and 96.1% getting. lso comparable to last year, 1.0% of day school first attempters attained for S Use of nglish (U) while the percentage of candidates receiving was 74.9%. The percentage of Grades with respect to the total number of subjects sat has remained stable at 2.8% this year. The total number of s awarded is 4,763. This year, four candidates obtained six Grade s, 13 candidates obtained five Grade s and 393 candidates were awarded three or more Grade s. Special examination arrangements were made for 257 candidates this year, and 19 special examination centres were set up to cater for the special needs of these candidates. total of 1,628 markers and 554 marking assistants participated in the marking of written examinations this year and approximately 643,000 scripts were marked, with about 40% marked onscreen. To provide evidence for handling of any irregularities and applications for remarking for oral examinations of L and U, the Oral Recording System (ORS) was fully implemented this year with 678 oral examiners appointed to conduct the speaking examinations../1

2 r Tong hong-sze, Secretary General of the Hong Kong xaminations and ssessment uthority (HK) said, This year will be the final HKL for school candidates with the launch of the Hong Kong iploma of Secondary ducation xamination. Since the HK took over the administration of HKL in 1980, over 900,000 candidates had sat the examination. These well trusted examinations were conducted with the support of about 200,000 examination personnel who assisted in setting the question papers, invigilation as well as marking and grading over the past three decades, said r Tong. The HK will conduct the final HKL for private candidates in 2013 and 15 -level subjects and 16 S-level subjects will be offered for those who would like to improve their grades. rrangements for the release of results: School candidates may obtain their results notices from their respective schools while private candidates will be notified by post.
