The adverb hen (, very) modifying the adjective predicate in the topiccomment structure has already grammaticalized into a predicate-focusing marker losing its degree-intensifying function. In contrast, the sentence with a predicate composed of a bare adjective is analyzed as a non-topiccomment structure which renders only the subject or the whole sentence as the focus. Key Words: information structure, adjective predicate, bare adjective, predicate focus marker, hen( ) LI Guangyu, CHEN Yi, The referential property and pragmatic function of the appositive singular personal pronoun+yige(, one cl) NP The referential property and pragmatic function of compound referential constructions are conditioned by many factors. In terms of its internal relation, textual anaphora and transformation, the referential property of this appositive construction is individual-denoting, instead of generic. The appositive is used to indicate the personal identity of its referent, activate the social evaluative meaning regarding the personal identity, and provide information basis for assessing, querying, inferring or inquiring the related referent. Key Words: co-referential apposition, compound referential construction, referential property, pragmatic function, licensing LI Wenhao, A further study on the referential property and pragmatic function of the anaphoric apposition personal pronoun+yige(, one cl) NP The anaphoric apposition personal pronoun + yige NP refers to individual-denoting, and denotes resemblance, not to kind-denoting. Its constructional meaning can be concluded as the speaker's subjective cognizance to the referent of the personal pronoun as a typical member in the category. Pragmatically, this construction appears frequently in counter-expected discourse context. The sharp contrast between objective reality and subjective cognizance urges the strong illocutionary force to emerge. Key Words: anaphoric apposition, reference, pragmatic function, subjectivity, counter-expectation ZHAO Linxiao, YANG Rongxiang, WU Fuxiang, The types, origins and diachronic evolution of the verb-copying construction VOVde( ) C in early Mandarin This paper argues that the emergence of the verb-copying construction VOVde( ) C in the Song Dynasty is not a replacement for some certain constructions, and it has its own origins and evolutional paths. The 510

13 construction can be classified into four types and each type differs in the origin, evolutional mechanism and path. Through the grammaticalization across clauses, it evolves from topic structures, serial verb constructions, concessive complex sentences and the construction yao( ) /yu( ) +VO+Vde( ) C. With the maturity of the construction in the Ming and Qing dynasty, the level of the grammaticalization also increases and the VO in the construction are mainly restricted to the compound words. Key Words: the verb-copying construction, VOVde( ) C, origin, clause combining LI Xuping, LIU Hongyong, WU Fang, On augmentative and diminutive affixes in the Xiangxi Miao language There are two sets of big / small morphemes in the Xiangxi Miao language( the Gouliang variety), namely, min 22 big /tε 214 small and ljo 53 big / u 214 small. They are distinguished from each other with respect to their morphosyntactic properties and modification relations expressed. This paper argues that min 22 big is an augmentative affix and tε 214 small a diminutive affix, whereas ljo 53 big / u 214 small are gradable adjectives. In terms of interpretational difference, min 22 /tε214 expresses the speaker's subjective evaluation of entities to be big or small along a certain dimension, and ljo 53 big / u 214 small expresses the objective size of entities referred to by N. Key Words: gradable adjectives, augmentative affix, diminutive affix, Xiangxi Miao language CHEN Hui, A study on the personal pronouns in the Xianghua dialect spoken in Liangjiatan, Luxi, Hunan This paper studies the personal pronouns in the endangered Xianghua dialect spoken in Liangjiatan, Luxi, Hunan province, primarily probing into and interpreting several phenomena existing in this dialect. The first phenomenon is the homomorphism of the singular and plural forms of first person and third person pronouns. Based on an investigation on the utilization, forms, and evolution of such homomorphic pronouns, the paper holds that for singular and plural first person pronouns before common nouns as subjects, objects or the possessive structure, their homomorphism indicates the singularization of plural personal pronouns or the equivalence between singular and plural forms which is seen in ancient Chinese ( the final answer needs further studies), while for singular and plural third person pronouns, their homomorphism is more likely to be explained by the equivalence between singular and plural forms. The second phenomenon is the singularization of plural personal pronouns in the possessive structure. The singularization of plural personal pronouns modifying kinship terms and nouns describing social units are mainly studied and the results show that the phenomenon is closely related to such factors like the degree of privatization or socialization of the head nouns, and the closeness between the possessor and the possessed. The paper summarizes the singularization of plural possessive personal pronouns in the Xianghua dialect spoken in Liangjiatan, and ranks the head nouns in the order of nouns describing social units ( to the exclusion of family ) >kinship terms and family >common terms and common nouns. The third phenomenon is the homomorphism of plural third person pronouns and referral pronouns. Given the close relationship between third person pronouns and referral pronouns, it's not difficult to understand their homomorphism. However, their precedence relationship still needs further investigations.
