11 Dong, Xiufang, Further grammaticalization of shi : From f unctional word to word2internal element In modern Mandarin, there are some conjunctives and adverbs containing shi ( ) in their composition. This kind of shi is derived from copula or focus marker. Shi, originally a verb, t hrough initial grammaticalization, became a f unctional word. grammaticalization, and reduced to a word2internal element. Liu, Lili, Chinese tone theory research in the 20 century This paper present s a critical review of t heoretical research on Chinese tone carried out in t he 20 cent ury. Four major t hemes emerge prominently f rom t he literat ure. Firstly, tone was held as a relative pitch. Secondly, pitch was debated over its status as a phoneme or non2phoneme. Thirdly, tone was st udied in terms of auto2segmental phonology. Fourt hly, tone was examined in the framework of the Optimality Theory. Finally t here emerges computational linguistics based on systemic f unctional linguistics. The examination is organized around three perspectives, viz. study of language as object, as process, and as instrument, which also characterize t he process of forensic linguistics abroad or represent t hree stages in t he development of t he discipline. Yu, Guodong, An adaptation model of codeswitching study This st udy, benefiting f rom existing researches, proposes an adaptation model of codeswitching. It is argued t hat codeswitching is t he realization of communicatorsπ making adaptation. Adaptation is made in terms of linguistic factors, social conventions, and psychological motivations.
