164 Dream between Life- and-death Introduction to the Hermeneutics of Dream and Dream-Work Lee, Yen-Hui Abstract The general question of the significance of dreams for the meaning of life is addressed in this paper in four parts: 1. The importance of the hermeneutics of dream analysis in the therapeutic field in western countries is explained. The writings of Ole Vedfelt, a psychologist from Denmark, are presented. Vedfelt classifies the modern hermeneutics of dream into 13 main streams, including dream interpretation in psychoanalysis, parapsychology and transpersonal psychology, and puts forward a concept of multidimensional dream analysis. 2. The subject of dream theory in psychoanalysis is described, in particular the dream theories of Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Erich Fromm. 3. A practical approach to dream-work is presented, including an ethical guideline for dream-work. 4. Finally a concept for the teaching of dream interpretation to students is presented, especially for students in the field of Lifeand-Death studies. In this field many people have questions about dreams, e.g. in the context of terminal care and bereavement
