孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金 项 目 介 绍 Introduction of Confucius Institute Scholarship 为 支 持 孔 子 学 院 建 设, 促 进 汉 语 国 际 推 广 和 中 国 文 化 传 播, 培 养 合 格 的 汉 语 教 师 和 各 类 汉 语 人 才, 孔 子 学 院 总 部 / 国 家 汉 办 设 立 孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金, 资 助 外 国 学 生 学 者 和 汉 语 教 师 到 中 国 有 关 高 等 学 校 ( 统 称 接 收 院 校 ) 攻 读 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 本 科 学 位 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 学 位, 或 学 习 汉 语 言 文 学 中 国 历 史 中 国 哲 学 专 业 孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金 设 立 于 2009 年 截 止 2013 年, 共 资 助 来 自 150 个 国 家 的 20,000 余 人 来 华 学 习 For the purpose of supporting the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitating Chinese Language promotion and Chinese Cultural transmission in the world, cultivating qualified Chineselanguage teachers and excellent Chineselanguage students, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban launches the Confucius Institute Scholarship program. The program will sponsor foreign students, scholars and Chineselanguage teachers proceed to a Bachelor s Degree or Master s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL or MTCSOL), or study in such majors as Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy in designated universities of China (hereinafter referred to as Host Institute ). 1 招 生 类 别 及 申 请 条 件 Scholarship Category and Eligibility Criteria 奖 学 金 招 生 类 别 是 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 一 学 年 研 修 + 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 汉 语 国 际 教 育 本 科 一 学 年 研 修 生 和 一 学 期 研 修 生 招 生 对 象 为 非 中 国 籍 人 士, 身 体 健 康, 年 龄 一 般 在 16 至 35 周 岁 之 间 ( 在 职 汉 语 教 师 可 放 宽 至 45 周 岁, 本 科 生 限 20 周 岁 ) The scholarship is divided into 5 categories: Scholarship for Students of Master s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) Scholarship for Students of One-Academic-Year + MTCSOL Scholarship for Students of Bachelor s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students Scholarship for One-Semester Students Applicants shall be non-chinese citizens in good health, aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45, and applicants for BTCSOL scholarship should be aged below 20). 6 Introduction of Confucius Institute Scholarship

汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 向 孔 子 学 院 ( 课 堂 ) 学 员, 海 外 本 土 汉 语 教 师 汉 语 桥 中 文 比 赛 优 胜 者, 大 学 中 文 专 业 优 秀 毕 业 生 和 HSK 考 试 成 绩 优 秀 者 提 供 入 学 时 间 为 当 年 秋 季, 资 助 期 限 为 2 年 申 请 者 应 具 有 学 士 学 位 或 相 当 学 历,HSK 成 绩 不 低 于 五 级 180 分 HSKK 成 绩 不 低 于 中 级 50 分, 同 时 书 面 承 诺 毕 业 后 至 少 从 事 5 年 汉 语 教 学 工 作 有 具 体 任 教 意 向 者 ( 须 提 供 拟 任 教 单 位 出 具 的 证 明 ) 将 被 优 先 录 取 汉 办 将 为 优 秀 毕 业 生 回 国 任 教 提 供 支 持 Scholarship for Students of MTCSOL: The scholarship is oriented at excellent students from Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), overseas local Chinese language teachers, winners of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students, excellent foreign college graduates majored in Chinese and outstanding performers on HSK exams, to undertake a Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. The scholarship winner shall begin the study in autumn, and the duration of scholarship is two academic years. The applicant should have a bachelor degree or its equivalent, get a score of at least 180 on the HSK (level 5) and a score of at least 50 on the HSKK (intermediate level), and make a written commitment stating that he/she will be engaged in Chinese language teaching for at least 5 years after graduation. The applicant with a specific teaching post arranged will be given admission priority (certification by the institution he/she will teach for is required). The applicant shall sign an agreement with the Confucius Institute or an institute he/ she will teach for. The Applicant is required to have a bachelor degree or its equivalent and achieve a score of at least 180 on the HSK (level 3) and a score of at least 60 on the HSKK (primary level). Those who pass the first-academic-year assessment and score at least 180 on the HSK (level 5) can proceed with their study in China for the Master s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. 汉 语 国 际 教 育 本 科 向 亚 洲 和 非 洲 地 区 不 发 达 国 家 有 志 于 从 事 汉 语 教 学 工 作 的 孔 子 学 院 学 员 提 供, 学 习 专 业 为 汉 语 国 际 教 育 ( 含 汉 语 言 本 科 汉 语 国 际 教 育 方 向 ) 入 学 时 间 为 每 年 秋 季, 资 助 期 限 为 4 年 申 请 者 应 具 有 高 中 以 上 学 历, HSK 成 绩 不 低 于 三 级 180 分 HSKK 成 绩 不 低 于 中 级 40 分 Scholarship for Students of BTCSOL: The scholarship is oriented at students from Confucius Institutes in underdeveloped regions in Asia and Africa, who are interested in Chinese Language teaching. Scholarship winners will major in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (or Chinese in the direction of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). Time of enrollment for scholarship winners is autumn, and the duration is four academic years. Winners of the finals of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in China shall arrange their applications in accordance with the prize specifications. 2 资 助 内 容 及 标 准 Scholarship Coverage and Criteria 孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金 资 助 内 容 包 括 : 注 册 费 学 费 基 本 教 材 费 一 次 性 安 置 费 生 活 费, 提 供 住 宿 门 诊 医 疗 服 务 和 来 华 留 学 生 综 合 保 险 其 中, 生 活 费 标 准 是 : 本 科 生 一 学 期 和 一 学 年 研 修 生 人 民 币 1400 元 / 月 ; 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 生 人 民 币 1700 元 / 月 一 次 性 安 置 费 标 准 是 : 发 给 在 华 学 习 时 间 为 一 学 年 ( 含 ) 以 上 者 人 民 币 1500 元 / 人 ; 发 给 在 华 学 习 时 间 为 一 学 期 者 人 民 币 1000 元 / 人 ; 录 取 前 已 在 华 学 习 半 年 以 上 者, 不 再 发 给 一 次 性 安 置 费 Scholarship recipients are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a one-off resettlement subsidy, monthly allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. Monthly allowances are provided at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month): a. CNY 1,400 for one-academic-year students, one-semester students and students undertaking BTCSOL. b. CNY 1,700 for students undertaking MTCSOL. The one-off resettlement subsidy is CNY 1,500 for students who will study in China for one academic year or more; CNY 1,000 will be provided to all students who studies in China for one semester; the one-off resettlement subsidy will not be provided to those who have studied in China for more than half a year before being enrolled. 10 Introduction of Confucius Institute Scholarship

HSK HSKK 成 绩 报 告 Photocopies of HSK HSKK score reports. 3. 经 过 公 证 的 最 高 学 历 ( 毕 业 预 订 证 明 或 在 校 学 习 证 明 ) Notarized highest education diploma attained (scheduled graduation proof or official proof of study). 4. 推 荐 信 及 承 诺 书 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 申 请 者 须 同 时 提 交 两 名 副 教 授 以 上 职 称 导 师 的 推 荐 信 ( 用 中 文 或 英 文 书 写 ), 以 及 毕 业 后 至 少 从 事 5 年 汉 语 教 学 工 作 的 承 诺 书 未 建 孔 子 学 院 国 家 的 有 关 高 校 中 文 专 业 学 生, 须 另 提 供 校 长 签 发 的 推 荐 信 Reference letter and letter of commitment. The Master s Degree Scholarship applicants are required to submit reference letters provided by two professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English).A written commitment stating that the applicant will be engaged in Chinese language teaching for at least 5 years after graduation (written in Chinese and sign with signature). Students attending Chinese language programs of universities in countries with no Confucius Institutes established shall attach a reference letter signed and issued by the university President. 5. 未 满 18 周 岁 的 申 请 者, 须 提 交 委 托 在 华 法 定 监 护 人 的 相 关 法 律 文 件 Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China. 12 Introduction of Confucius Institute Scholarship

4 申 请 材 料 Application Documents 6. 汉 语 桥 世 界 大 中 学 生 中 文 比 赛 来 华 复 赛 获 奖 者 须 提 供 奖 学 金 证 书 各 国 分 赛 区 优 胜 者 须 提 供 获 奖 证 明 和 赛 区 主 办 单 位 出 具 的 推 荐 函 Winners of the finals of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in China shall submit the certificate of scholarship. Winners of preliminary rounds of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions in their countries shall provide award proof and reference letter provided by the organizers. 7. 在 职 汉 语 教 师 须 提 交 就 职 机 构 出 具 的 在 职 证 明 和 推 荐 信 Chinese language teachers shall submit certificate of employment and recommendation letters provided by institutes they work for. 8. 申 请 一 学 年 研 修 + 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 连 读 学 习 的, 须 提 交 与 孔 子 学 院 或 拟 任 教 单 位 签 订 的 协 议 Applicants for scholarship of One-Academic-Year + MTCSOL are required to provide the agreement signed with the Confucius Institute or the institute which they will be working for. 9. 接 收 院 校 所 需 的 其 他 证 明 材 料 Other materials required by host institutes. 孔 子 学 院 孔 奖 子 学 学 金 院 项 奖 目 学 介 金 绍 13

5 入 学 及 年 度 评 审 Entrance and Annual Appraisal 1. 奖 学 金 获 得 者 须 根 据 接 收 院 校 规 定 按 时 到 校 报 到 无 故 逾 期 未 报 到 者, 奖 学 金 资 格 不 予 保 留 The scholarship winners shall register at the host institutes before the deadline set by the institutes. Scholarships will not be reserved for those who do not register on time without reasonable cause. 2. 入 学 体 检 不 合 格 者, 奖 学 金 资 格 将 被 取 消 Scholarships will be canceled for those who cannot pass the health examination. 3. 按 照 孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金 年 度 评 审 办 法 的 规 定, 汉 语 国 际 教 育 本 科 生 和 专 业 硕 士 生 ( 含 一 学 年 研 修 + 汉 语 国 际 教 育 专 业 硕 士 生 ) 须 参 加 年 度 评 审, 符 合 条 件 者 方 可 继 续 享 受 下 一 年 度 奖 学 金 Students undertaking BTCSOL or MTCSOL (including One-Academic-Year + MTCSOL), shall be subject to an annual appraisal organized by the host institutes before the end of the first year after being enrolled according to the Annual Appraisal Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship. In June 1964 it was designated as Beijing Language Institute. In June 1996 it was renamed as Beijing Language and Culture University and simplified to Beijing Language University in 2002. BLCU, known as the Mini-United Nations, is the only university of its kind in China that offers Chinese language and culture courses to foreign students, as well as a multidisciplinary university curriculum in language teaching and research. Since its founding in 1962, BLCU has been an important academic base for language and cultural research and a cradle for advanced international talents in China. What s more, BLCU helps foster the growth of our academic faculty and supplies language courses designed for those who plan to study abroad. Over 50 years of development has made BLCU a multidisciplinary university that has enhanced language teaching and research, with synergetic development in fields such as Chinese, foreign languages and other relevant disciplines. In the area of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language (TCFL) and the promotion of Chinese culture, Beijing Language and Culture University not only has the longest history and largest size but also the most wellqualified academic faculty. At present, BLCU has more than 1,200 faculty and staff, including about 700 teachers and researchers, and over 300 senior-titled professionals. Meanwhile, BLCU has invited many well-known scholars from both China and other countries to teach or give lectures as Full-time and Adjunct Professors. Since the 1990s, BLCU has enlarged the scope of cultivating talented individuals and developing new and related disciplines. The university s current disciplines are 20 Introduction to the BLCU

composed of seven areas of study: literature, economics, law, engineering, history, education, and management. In addition to the Post-doctoral Research Center, there are 15 Ph. D. programs, 30 masters degree programs and 25 bachelors degree programs, including 1 national key discipline and 10 municipal key disciplines. The university is currently comprised of the following institutions: the Department of Chinese International Education, the Department of Foreign Languages, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Information Sciences, the International Business School, the Physical Education Department, the School of Training and the College of Network Education. In addition to these academic units, BLCU also has many research bodies, such as the Academy of Languages, the TCFL Research Center, the International Research Base for Chinese Language Teaching, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Language Information Processing Center, the Institute of Chinese Language Policies and Standards, the Capital International Culture Research Base, and the Arab Research Center. The TCFL Research Center, known as one of the 100 key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences established by Ministry of Education, is the only key state level research base in the field of TCFL in China. and educational institutions in 51 countries and regions worldwide and formed a productive international education model with multi-level and wide-ranging features. BLCU engages in Chinese-foreign cooperation agreements in running schools with various forms. BLCU has also conducted joint-training undergraduate and graduate programs with over 10 foreign universities, such as Webster University and George Mason University in the U.S., Konstanz University of Applied Sciences in Germany and the University of Manchester in Britain. BLCU publishes more than 5 academic journals such as Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies, Chinese Teaching in the World, Chinese Culture Research, International Chinese Teaching Research, and Nationalities and Regions Research. Various teaching materials published by the Beijing Language and Culture University Press are very influential both at home and abroad. Materials concerning TCFL published by BLCUP has been used by numerous institutions and training organizations in over 100 countries. As the scope of China s international exchanges and cooperation extended, BLCU has built extensive and close relations with entities throughout the world. The campus is 38 hectares of lush trees and gardens that create a peaceful and comfortable environment for study and living. The education facilities are complete with language laboratories, multimedia classrooms, simultaneous translation practice rooms, etc. All rooms are equipped with wireless listening equipment, computers, air conditioning, digital projectors and stereo equipment. BLCU emphasizes on improving the environment both at campus and around the university and constructed many scenic spots near the dormitories. The Yifu field house has an indoor swimming pool, badminton courts, table tennis facilities, bowling lanes, and a gym. The school campus also hosts an ICBC bank, post office, stores, laundry, internet center and other useful shops. In 2013, the newly constructed Administration Building began providing a 1000-seat capacity theater. Transportation near the university is accessible by bus lines 307, 331, 690, 375, 743, 957 and a metro line that goes directly to the city center. 高 谈 阔 论 大 放 异 彩, 尽 抒 对 学 习 汉 语 的 热 爱 和 孔 子 学 院 的 感 激 通 过 这 些 形 式 多 样 的 文 化 活 动, 孔 子 学 院 奖 学 金 生 们 亲 身 感 受 到 了 中 华 文 化 的 深 远 与 博 大, 加 深 了 他 们 对 中 国 和 中 国 人 民 的 感 情, 增 强 了 他 们 继 续 学 习 汉 语 的 热 情 和 信 心 Based on an immersion learning model, these specially designed scholarship student activities, which count as course credits, are organized as tasks that include different phases of preparation, assistance, and evaluation. By means of various language and culture activities, scholarship students can improve their language skills, broaden cultural horizons, and strengthen ties of friendship with Chinese people. Several well-designed and popular scholarship student activities have been held both inside and outside Beijing during the 2013-2014 academic year. Students have toured around China and engaged in hands-on Chinese language and cultural learning through activities. Cultural immersion activities allow students to experience traditional Chinese culture through the art of tea, the Peking Opera, and martial arts; the tours provide opportunities for students to learn language and customs in different regions of China. All of these activities are designed to reveal to international students a traditional country with a splendid history but also a modern energy. 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute, and many students have been involved in activities to celebrate the event. In the speech contest My Dream and China, scholarship students from all around the world shared their Chinese learning stories and Chinese dreams to affirm their love of the language and the country.
