4 一 入 学 与 注 册 Enrollment and Registration 1 新 生 应 持 来 华 有 效 签 证 和 录 取 通 知 书 按 期 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 办 理 入 学 手 续 因 故 不 能 按 期 入 学 者, 应 以 书 面 形 式 向 学 院 请 假, 请 假 时 间 一 般 不 得 超 过 两 周 未 经 请 假 请 假 未 经 批 准 或 请 假 逾 期 者, 以 旷 课 论 处, 超 过 两 周 不 报 到 者, 取 消 其 入 学 资 格 The new students should arrive at the school on time with a valid visa and their admission notice to register for enrollment. Students who are not able to arrive on time should submit written notice to request an approval of late arrival. For most cases this period of absence is limited to a maximum of two weeks. Once enrolled, if student leave without permission or a period of absence exceeds the permitted leave time, the absence will be regarded as truancy. If students do not register within the first two weeks, they will no longer be allowed to enroll. 2 新 生 来 华 后 需 按 照 我 校 安 排 到 广 东 国 际 旅 行 卫 生 保 健 中 心 进 行 体 检 体 检 不 合 格 者 不 予 注 册 不 符 合 中 国 卫 生 检 疫 法 规 定 的 健 康 标 准 者, 应 立 即 离 境, 一 切 费 用 自 理 After arrival, incoming students should have a physical examination in the Guangdong Health Center for International Travelers. If the examination result is not satisfactory, enrollment will be revoked. Those who do not abide by the health standards instituted in Chinese laws on sanitation and quarantine will be required to leave the country immediately at their own expense. 3 取 得 入 学 资 格 者, 由 国 际 教 育 学 院 发 给 其 留 学 生 证 每 学 期 开 学 时, 语 言 班 留 学 生 必 须 按 规 定 时 间 到 学 院 办 理 注 册 手 续 ( 具 体 注 册 时 间 见 学 校 开 学 通 知 ) 因 故 不 能 如 期 注 册 者, 必 须 履 行 请 假 手 续, 否 则 以 旷 课 论 处 Once enrolled in the language class, students will get international student cards from the School of International Education. At the beginning of each term, international students should register on time (students will be notified of each term s starting date). Those who cannot register as scheduled for any reason should request approval for a late arrival; otherwise the student s absence will be regarded as truancy. 4 对 于 未 按 时 注 册 的 学 生, 将 依 据 具 体 情 况 分 别 按 病 事 假 或 旷 课 等 予 以 处 理 和 记 载 Students who cannot register on time will be followed up on and their absence recorded as sick leave, personal leave or truancy according to the student s situation. 5 语 言 班 留 学 生 在 校 学 习 期 间, 每 学 期 都 必 须 按 时 交 纳 相 关 费 用, 不 按 时 交 费 者, 不 予 注 册, 取 消 其 入 学 资 格 During the period of study, all fees stipulated by the university should be paid on time each term. Those who fail to pay on time will not be allowed to register or enroll. 6 开 课 前, 新 生 须 参 加 分 班 测 试, 方 可 进 入 相 应 班 级 学 习, 如 需 换 班, 须 在 开 课 后 两 周 内 提 出 申 请 并 填 写 换 班 申 请 表, 经 批 准 后 方 可 换 班 Before classes start, new students are required to attend the placement test to enter the 2

Students who need to change the class, should fill in Application Form for Language Student Class Change within two weeks after the commencement, and can only join in the new class with approval. 二 考 勤 与 纪 律 Attendance and Rules 1 语 言 班 留 学 生 须 按 时 参 加 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 课 程 和 学 院 学 校 统 一 安 排 组 织 的 活 动 语 言 班 留 学 生 上 课 实 行 考 勤 制 度, 因 故 不 能 参 加 者, 须 向 国 际 教 育 学 院 请 假 凡 未 经 请 假 或 请 假 逾 期 者, 一 律 以 旷 课 论 处 对 旷 课 学 生, 根 据 旷 课 时 间 多 少 情 节 轻 重, 给 予 批 评 教 育, 直 至 纪 律 处 分 一 学 期 累 计 旷 课 超 过 70 节 ( 含 70 节 ), 作 退 学 处 理, 不 予 发 放 任 何 学 习 证 明 Students should attend relevant teaching curriculum and take part in activities as stipulated by the university or International School of Education. Students attendance rate will be assessed each semester. Those who cannot attend classes or other activities for any reason should request permission from the School of International Education. Students who leave without permission or take leave longer than a permitted duration, or those who are late for three times will be regarded as truants. Disciplinary measures will be implemented in accordance with the period of absence, the seriousness of the breach of regulation. If the student is absent for 70 or more classes in a term, they will not receive any study certificate. Upon receipt of truancy notice over three times in one semester and you have not improved, you will be expelled from the School. 2 学 生 生 病 有 事, 须 履 行 请 假 手 续 学 生 因 回 国 外 出 等 原 因 请 假, 必 须 填 写 请 假 申 请 表, 并 征 得 班 主 任 的 同 意, 请 假 三 天 或 以 上 者 还 须 报 主 管 副 院 长 批 准 准 假 后, 学 生 应 通 知 任 课 老 师, 否 则 自 己 承 担 后 果 未 经 批 准 擅 自 离 校 或 超 假 不 回 校 以 及 不 按 时 销 假 者 按 旷 课 论 处 Students must get approval from the head teacher of each class if they are absent for personal or health reasons. Those who need to return to their country or travel outside the campus must submit an application form of temporary absence to the head teacher; those who ask for leave for 3 days or above should submit application to the office and get permission before leaving. If students leave without the School s permission or returns to school later than the permitted duration, they will be regarded as a truant. 3 语 言 班 留 学 生 享 受 我 国 传 统 节 假 日 及 学 校 的 寒 暑 假 若 逢 留 学 生 本 国 的 重 大 节 日, 语 言 班 留 学 生 可 向 留 学 生 管 理 办 公 室 申 请 放 假 1 天 此 类 请 假 每 年 不 得 超 过 2 次 International students can have time off for the usual allotted Chinese festivals, holidays, and summer and winter vacations. International language students can apply for one day s leave through the Student Affairs Office on the occasion of important holidays in their home countries. This will be permitted a maximum of twice a year. 三 考 试 与 结 业 Examination and Graduation 1 考 核 成 绩 评 分, 以 期 末 考 核 成 绩 为 主, 参 考 考 勤 情 况 期 中 考 试 和 平 时 成 绩 一 般 情 况 考 勤 和 平 时 成 绩 占 30%, 期 中 考 核 成 绩 占 30%, 期 末 成 绩 占 40% 3

6 Course results are made up of final exam scores, attendance, mid-term exam scores, etc. Generally attendance and daily performance scores count for 30%, mid-term exam scores count for 30%,the final exam scores count for 40% of the course results. 2 根 据 教 学 计 划 的 总 体 安 排, 语 言 班 留 学 生 应 在 规 定 时 间 参 加 课 程 考 核, 不 得 无 故 缺 考 凡 擅 自 缺 考 考 核 作 弊 的 学 生, 该 课 程 成 绩 以 零 分 计 考 核 作 弊 或 协 助 作 弊 及 其 他 违 反 考 场 纪 律 的 学 生, 视 其 情 节 轻 重, 按 有 关 规 定, 给 予 警 告 直 至 开 除 学 籍 的 纪 律 处 分 Students who are absent without permission or are caught cheating during a test will not be assessed for their performance. A student who is caught cheating, caught helping others to cheat, or otherwise caught violating examination rules, will be subject to warnings or dismissal from the school. 3 因 故 不 能 参 加 考 核 者, 须 提 前 至 少 一 周 以 书 面 形 式 提 出 缓 考 申 请, 经 批 准 后 方 可 缓 考 A student who is unable to attend scheduled examinations for any reason should submit a request at least one week in advance to the Academic Affairs Office explaining the reason of absence. Approval is required for a student to take the deferred exams. 4 凡 擅 自 缺 考 考 核 作 弊 的 学 生, 该 课 程 成 绩 以 零 分 计 考 核 作 弊 或 协 助 作 弊 及 其 它 违 反 考 场 纪 律 的 学 生, 给 予 警 告 直 至 开 除 学 籍 的 纪 律 处 分 Students who are absent without permission or are caught cheating during a test will receive a zero for their performance. A student who is caught cheating, caught helping others to cheat, or otherwise caught violating testing procedure, will receive warnings and be punished accordingly. 5 语 言 班 留 学 生 缺 课 ( 含 旷 课 和 请 假 ) 累 计 超 过 某 门 课 程 学 时 数 的 1/3, 取 消 该 课 程 考 核 资 格, 考 核 成 绩 按 零 分 计 If a student is absent (including asking for leave) for 1/3 of the total periods in which that subject is held, the student will fail the course and cannot attend the exams, and the assessment result is graded as Zero. 6 语 言 班 留 学 生 学 完 本 学 期 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 课 程, 经 考 核 成 绩 合 格, 准 予 升 级 精 读 课 和 其 它 任 一 门 科 目 总 评 成 绩 不 及 格 者, 不 予 升 级 After completing courses and passing exams for all subjects in a term, students may progress to the next level. Students who fail Comprehensive Chinese and another subject are graded as Fail for the subject and have to repeat all courses for this semester. 7 具 有 入 学 资 格 的 语 言 班 留 学 生, 修 完 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 全 部 课 程, 考 试 合 格, 符 合 条 件 者, 将 颁 发 语 言 生 学 习 证 明 After completing courses and passing exams for all subjects in a term, qualified language students 4

7 will be given language study certificates. 8 无 学 籍 学 生 不 予 发 放 何 形 式 的 学 习 证 明 Students who have no existing study records within the university will not be given any types of study certification. 9 语 言 班 留 学 生 对 学 校 颁 发 的 语 言 生 学 习 证 明 应 妥 善 保 存, 如 有 遗 失 不 再 补 发 若 确 属 需 要, 应 由 本 人 申 请, 经 国 际 教 育 学 院 审 查 后, 只 出 具 就 读 证 明 Students should retain the language study certificates received from the university. Lost certificates will not be replaced. Only a testimonial of study can be issued upon a student s request, once approval is granted by the School of International Education. 10 语 言 班 留 学 生 结 业, 须 于 离 校 前 一 星 期 凭 本 人 学 生 证 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 领 取 离 校 手 续 表 办 理 离 校 相 关 手 续 不 办 理 离 校 手 续 而 自 行 离 校 的 学 生, 不 予 发 放 其 在 校 学 习 证 明 学 习 成 绩 单 等 After completion of studies, students should bring their student ID to the International Student Office to get a copy of the School Departure Process Form a week before leaving the university and then undergo departure procedure. Students who leave without performing these procedures will not be allowed to get the relevant university documents such as study certificate, study testimonials and transcripts. 5

9 一 入 学 与 注 册 Enrollment and Registration 1 经 正 式 录 取 的 本 校 新 生 持 来 华 学 习 签 证 (X1 签 证 ) JW202 或 JW201 录 取 通 知 书 和 本 人 护 照 按 规 定 时 间 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 办 理 入 学 手 续 因 故 不 能 按 期 报 到 者, 应 以 书 面 形 式 向 国 际 教 育 学 院 请 假, 请 假 时 间 一 般 不 得 超 过 两 周 未 经 请 假 或 请 假 逾 期 者, 除 因 不 可 抗 力 等 正 当 事 由 外, 视 为 放 弃 入 学 资 格 New students should register on time with their own X1 (study) visa, JW202 or JW201, and the Admission Letter. Students who fail to arrive on time should submit a written notice of request for approval. For most cases this period of absence is limited to a maximum of two weeks. If a student leaves without permission or the period of absence exceeds the permitted time, except for legitimate reasons such as force majeure, enrollment will be revoked. 2 新 生 来 华 后 须 按 照 我 校 安 排 到 广 东 国 际 旅 行 卫 生 保 健 中 心 进 行 体 检, 体 检 不 合 格 者 不 予 注 册 不 符 合 中 国 卫 生 检 疫 法 规 定 的 健 康 标 准 者, 应 立 即 离 境, 一 切 费 用 自 理 New students should have a physical examination approved by the Guangdong Health Center for International Travelers. Students who do not meet the health standards instituted in Chinese laws on sanitation and quarantine will be required to leave the country immediately at their own expense. 3 新 生 来 华 后 需 要 在 到 达 居 住 地 的 24 小 时 内 到 当 地 派 出 所 办 理 暂 住 证 New students should go to the local police station for a temporary residence permit within 24 hours after they arrive in China. 4 取 得 学 籍 者, 由 国 际 教 育 学 院 发 放 其 留 学 生 证 每 学 期 开 学 时, 本 科 留 学 生 须 按 时 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 办 理 注 册 交 费 手 续, 并 到 就 读 学 院 报 到 注 册 后, 才 有 资 格 参 加 学 校 教 学 计 划 安 排 的 所 有 活 动 因 故 不 能 按 期 注 册 者, 必 须 履 行 请 假 手 续, 否 则 以 旷 课 论 处 对 无 故 不 按 时 注 册 者, 逾 期 两 周 以 内 者, 给 予 严 重 警 告 至 留 校 察 看 处 分, 逾 期 超 过 两 周 者, 给 予 退 学 处 分 The School of International Education will issue student cards to enrolled international students. At the beginning of each semester, international students are required to register at the School of International Education and pay all school fees, and then register at the school of study. Only registered students are eligible to attend university activities. Any student who is unable to register on time must get permission for late registration or otherwise will be considered truant. The following disciplinary actions will be taken for those who register late without permission. For those who are late for registration within two weeks, the student will be given a serious warning and probation from the university. For those who are late for registration more than two weeks, the student will be expelled from the university. 7

Punishments ranging from probation to expulsion from the university 5 对 于 未 按 时 注 册 的 本 科 留 学 生, 要 分 别 按 病 事 假 或 旷 课 违 纪 等 予 以 处 理 和 记 载 Students who cannot register on time will be recorded as sick leave, personal leave, absent, or school rule violation accordingly. 6 凡 因 休 学 保 留 学 籍 或 其 它 原 因 离 校 的 学 生, 未 经 学 校 批 准, 不 得 复 学 注 册 Students who leave the university due to suspension, retaining student status or other reasons must seek for official permission from university before resuming interrupted studies. 二 专 业 及 课 程 Major and Curriculum 1 培 养 计 划 Curriculum 培 养 计 划 是 学 校 培 养 人 才 的 总 体 设 计 和 实 施 计 划, 学 生 必 须 根 据 培 养 计 划 要 求 修 读 课 程 及 完 成 各 类 教 学 实 践 活 动, 取 得 相 应 学 分 Curriculum is the basis of planning, arranging for courses and teaching activities. Students should complete the courses and other practicum so as to achieve all credits as required. 2 课 程 性 质 (1) 学 校 本 科 综 合 培 养 计 划 的 课 程 设 置, 分 必 修 课 程 和 选 修 课 程 两 类 留 学 生 按 各 专 业 综 合 培 养 计 划 学 完 某 门 课 程, 经 考 核 成 绩 及 格, 取 得 该 门 课 程 的 学 分 留 学 生 必 须 满 足 相 应 专 业 的 毕 业 通 选 课 学 分 要 求 (2) 为 了 加 深 留 学 生 对 中 国 文 化 的 了 解, 全 面 提 高 留 学 生 的 汉 语 水 平, 更 好 地 促 进 专 业 课 程 的 学 习, 国 际 教 育 学 院 为 留 学 生 增 设 科 技 汉 语 ( 中 ) 科 技 汉 语 ( 高 ) 中 国 概 况 跨 文 化 交 际 学 IT 汉 语 应 用 写 作 等 课 程 其 中, 留 学 生 必 须 修 读 中 国 概 况, 该 课 程 学 分 可 作 为 通 选 课 程 学 分 (3) 学 习 困 难 的 学 生, 经 就 读 学 院 同 意, 可 申 请 延 长 学 习 时 间 ( 不 得 超 过 专 业 基 本 学 制 两 年 ) (4) 本 科 留 学 生 可 免 修 政 治 理 论 和 思 想 品 德 课 程 ( 如 马 克 思 主 义 哲 学 原 理 马 克 思 主 义 政 治 经 济 学 毛 泽 东 思 想 概 论 邓 小 平 理 论 当 代 世 界 经 济 与 政 治 中 国 近 现 代 史 法 律 基 础 知 识 大 学 生 成 才 修 养 ) 军 事 理 论 军 训 体 育 公 益 劳 动 以 及 大 学 英 语 若 留 学 生 对 上 述 课 程 有 兴 趣, 也 可 以 申 请 选 修, 经 考 核 合 格 可 获 得 相 应 的 学 分 ( 不 列 入 必 修 学 分 ) 8

11 2. Courses (1) The undergraduate curriculum requires international students to complete and pass all subjects as required and obtain required credits. Each major consists of compulsory, selected, and optional courses. Undergraduate students are required to obtain enough credits of General Selective Courses according to the curriculum of their majors. (2) Additional General Optional Courses will be offered by SIE: Scientific Chinese (I), Scientific Chinese (II), Introduction to China, Intercultural Communication, IT Chinese, Applied Writing, etc. International students must take Introduction to China as a selective course and obtain the credit as selective credit. (3) Students with difficulty in studies could ask for permission for extension from relevant School. The total length of extension is no more than two years beyond regular length of studies. (4) International undergraduate students are exempt from the following courses: Marxist Philosophical Theory, Marxist Political Economy, Survey of Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, Contemporary Global Economy and Politics, Chinese Modern History, Fundamentals of Law, University Study Techniques, Military Theory, Military Practice, Physical Education, Life Skills, and College English. If international students wish to study these courses, they can take them as optional courses after approval. Course credit will be given upon passing the course examination. 3 学 分 制 学 分 要 求 (1) 学 校 实 行 学 分 制, 本 科 基 本 学 制 为 四 年 ( 个 别 专 业 为 五 年 ), 每 学 年 划 分 为 两 个 学 期 (2) 以 基 本 学 制 为 基 础, 具 有 我 校 全 日 制 本 科 学 籍 的 留 学 生, 在 校 最 长 年 限 ( 含 休 学 ) 为 所 在 专 业 基 本 学 制 加 两 年 ( 不 含 服 兵 役 时 间 ) 不 能 在 规 定 的 基 本 学 制 年 限 内 修 满 学 分, 未 达 退 学 处 理 的 学 生 可 申 请 延 期 经 批 准 者 原 则 上 安 排 在 同 专 业 的 下 一 年 级 跟 班 学 习, 并 须 交 纳 学 校 规 定 的 学 费 及 其 他 有 关 费 用 但 无 论 何 种 原 因, 在 校 时 间 ( 含 休 学 ) 最 长 时 间 不 能 超 过 所 在 专 业 基 本 学 制 两 年 (3) 留 学 生 在 校 学 习 期 间, 都 必 须 按 时 交 纳 学 校 规 定 的 费 用, 不 按 时 交 费 者, 不 予 注 册, 自 动 取 消 学 籍 3. Credit system (1) The university operates on a credit system. Undergraduates typically study for four years while the study periods of specific majors are five years. Each school year is distributed into two semesters. (2) There is a two year maximum extension (including any period of deferment, but not including any period of military services) beyond the regular duration of study for full-time international undergraduate students. Undergraduate students are permitted to extend the total length of study for no more than two years. Students with permission to extend must enter the same major at a lower grade level and pay all enrollment fees as required. 9

12 (3) During the period of study, all fees required by the university should be paid on time in each academic year. Those who fail to pay on time will not be allowed to register or enroll and will be expelled from the university automatically. 三 考 勤 及 纪 律 Attendance and Rules 1 留 学 生 须 按 时 参 加 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 课 程 和 学 校 与 学 院 统 一 安 排 组 织 的 活 动 留 学 生 上 课 实 习 等 都 实 行 考 勤 因 故 不 能 参 加 者, 必 须 请 假 凡 未 经 请 假 或 请 假 逾 期 者, 一 律 以 旷 课 论, 旷 课 1 天 按 5 学 时 计 对 旷 课 学 生, 根 据 旷 课 时 间 多 少 情 节 轻 重, 给 予 批 评 教 育, 纪 律 处 分 直 至 开 除 学 籍 处 分 一 学 期 累 计 旷 课 超 过 70 节 ( 含 70 节 ), 作 退 学 处 理, 不 予 发 放 任 何 学 习 证 明 Students should attend and take part in activities as required by the university and the School of International Education. Attendance in classes and fieldwork will be checked. Those who fail to attend lessons or other activities for any reason should ask for permission. Students who leave without permission or take leave longer than a permitted leave time will be marked as truant. One day s truancy is considered equal to five periods. A punishment ranging from a reprimand to disciplinary measure and expulsion will be given to the truant in correlation with the amount of truancy. If students are absent for 70 or more lessons in one semester, they will not receive a study certificate. 2 在 校 学 生 一 般 不 准 请 事 假, 若 有 特 殊 情 况 必 须 请 事 假, 最 长 不 得 超 过 两 周 留 学 生 请 假, 3 天 以 内 由 就 读 学 院 审 批 ;3 天 及 以 上, 须 填 写 我 院 的 请 假 申 请 表, 获 就 读 学 院 及 我 院 批 准 未 经 批 准 擅 自 离 校 达 到 两 周 或 以 上, 或 超 假 连 续 两 周 未 参 加 学 校 规 定 的 教 学 活 动 者, 予 以 退 学 处 理 Personal leave will not be allowed except under special circumstances. Duration of leave is generally limited to a maximum of two weeks. For leave of three days or fewer, approval must be obtained from the relevant school. For leave of three days or more, students should get permission from relevant school and the School of International Education (SIE) with the application form provided by SIE. Approval must be obtained before leaving. International students can apply for one day s leave at the relevant school and SIE on the occasion of important holidays of their home countries. Otherwise, the students must submit an application for postponement to the relevant school with reason and supported documents. Only with approval by the dean of the relevant school and a record in the Academic Affairs Office of SIE, can this procedure go into effect. Except for some emergent illness, the students can not apply for postponement when they are about to or have already entered the examination classroom. Select courses, resit exams, re-study courses (1) Students who fail the compulsory courses should attend the resit exam early the next semester. Students should retake the course if they fail the makeup exam or if they are absent for the exams without permission. Undergraduate students resit exam registration will be arranged in the first week of every semester and lasts for three days. Those needing to register who have not yet returned to school 11

14 can authorize classmates to fill in the registration form. Any students who miss the registration have to retake the course. Only students who took the course the previous semester are accepted for makeup exam. Other grades or majors cannot register and have to retake the course. International students should apply for retaking any course. Once approved, students can register at the school during the first 2 weeks of the semester; and study with the same major or similar major of lower grade. For students retaking courses, no exemptions or delays in taking the final exam may be applied for, nor may the make-up exam be taken. (2) Students must register for courses on the Undergraduate Students Study Portal by the second week of each semester. Those without successful registration cannot take courses. Once a student has registered for courses, they usually cannot be changed. If students insist of change or withdraw from a course, they must submit the application on the Undergraduate Students Study Portal by the time requested, or otherwise it will not be accepted. General optional courses of Chinese as a Foreign Language programme and Vietnamese exchange student programme are arranged by the School of International Education. (3) Generally, selective courses with fewer than 15 registrants will not be offered. (4) Students who fail to attend classes without approval are marked as truant. (5) Students cannot test out a course that they should repeat. Neither can they apply for deferment exam or retaking the exam. 五 毕 业 论 文 及 答 辩 Dissertation and Oral Defense 学 生 修 完 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 课 程 ( 含 实 践 环 节 ), 取 得 规 定 的 学 分 数 和 绩 点 数, 方 有 资 格 进 行 毕 业 论 文 ( 设 计 ) Only students who complete all required courses, and get enough credits and achievement points are allowed to attend graduation projects. 六 毕 业 Graduation 1 留 学 生 在 学 校 规 定 年 限 内, 修 完 综 合 培 养 计 划 规 定 课 程, 并 取 得 相 应 的 学 分, 达 到 毕 业 要 求, 准 予 毕 业, 学 校 将 发 给 毕 业 证 书 符 合 学 士 学 位 授 予 相 关 规 定 者, 授 予 学 士 学 位 International students with regular study records who complete their course plan either on schedule or earlier and receive all required credits will be allowed to graduate and receive graduation certificates. Students with failed subjects of more than 16 credits in graduation check are treated as follows: (1) incomplete of the course for students exceeding the maximum length of study; (2) extend the study and register before the semester starts for students who haven t exceed the maximum length of study. Upon approval, students should pay all fees as required. Once passed, students can receive a graduation certificate as the original-year graduates. 5 不 得 给 无 学 籍 学 生 发 任 何 形 式 的 学 历 证 明 或 学 位 证 明 Students who have no existing study records within the university will not be given graduate certificates or any other types of study verification. 6 留 学 生 毕 业, 须 在 离 校 前 一 周 凭 本 人 学 生 证 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 领 取 离 校 手 续 表, 按 手 续 表 程 序 办 理 相 关 手 续 不 办 理 离 校 手 续 而 离 校 的 学 生, 学 校 将 不 负 责 提 供 其 在 校 的 学 习 证 明 学 习 成 绩 单 及 毕 业 证 书 等 文 件 Students should bring their student ID to SIE to get a copy of the School Departure Process Form a week before leaving the university. Students who wish to change their major, school, or university should request approval from their school and SIE, and adhere to the following guidelines: (1) Students who wish to change to another major within the university should get approval from both their current school and the school in which they intend to study. (2) Students who wish to transfer to another university should get approval from both universities. International students on government scholarships must also get approval from the China Scholarship Council and their country s embassy. (3) The procedures should be processed by end of May for first half of each year; by the end of November for second half of each year; and will not be processed in other time. (4) Students who change majors from other schools i.e., those who are not majoring in Computer Science and Technology (English medium), International Economics and Trade (English medium), and Chinese International Education to another school (except for the School of International Education), need to apply at the end of the second semester of the first year and start new professional learning from the first semester of the second year. If students who change majors from other schools to the School of International Education; i.e., Computer Science and Technology (English medium), International Economics and Trade (English medium), and Chinese International Education. If students are freshmen, they have to submit application in the first three weeks of the first semester. Once approved, they can transfer into the new majors for learning in the first semester. If students are not freshmen, they have to apply in June. Students who plan to suspend their study should bear the following in mind: (1) International students with permission to leave the university for illness or for other reasons should fill out and submit the application form for suspending, quitting and transferring. Students who leave due to illness should also submit a certified hospital analysis of their illness. Once approval is obtained from both the Head of their school and SIE, the student will receive notification granting their leave from the university without losing their student status. Students must complete all leaving procedures within two weeks after receiving this notification; otherwise they will be regarded as having voluntarily surrendered their student status. Students who do not complete the leaving procedures and do not attend regular classes and/or fieldwork are considered truant. During students period of leave from the university, they may not participate in classes or examinations. (2) International students on leave for illness should return to their home countries for recuperation. (3) International students on Chinese government scholarships cannot get free medical treatment at SCUT or other scholarship funds during their leave period. (4) International students return to their home countries at their own expense. 16

Students who do not request to resume studying within the year will have their records removed. 8 留 学 生 复 学 按 下 列 规 定 办 理 : (1) 学 生 休 学 保 留 学 籍 期 满, 应 于 开 学 报 到 时 持 有 关 证 件, 向 学 校 申 请 复 学 (2) 因 伤 病 休 学 的 学 生, 申 请 复 学 时 必 须 由 所 在 国 公 立 医 院 诊 断, 证 明 恢 复 健 康, 并 经 中 国 二 级 甲 等 医 院 复 查 合 格, 方 可 复 学 (3) 休 学 保 留 学 籍 期 间, 如 有 严 重 违 法 乱 纪 行 为 者, 应 取 消 复 学 资 格 (4) 复 学 后, 原 则 上 编 入 原 专 业 的 下 一 年 级 学 习 (5) 凡 休 学 保 留 学 籍 或 其 它 原 因 离 校 的 学 生, 未 经 批 准, 不 得 复 学 注 册 8. International students who wish to resume their interrupted studies should go through the following procedures: (1) When a period of leave, study postponement, or study record retaining is coming to an end, students should apply to the university to resume their studies with the necessary documents prior to the beginning of the coming term. (2) Students must submit certified physical examination documents confirming their health when they apply to resume their studies. Only after receiving these documents will the university allow students to resume their studies and restore their study records. (3) Students who are on leave, have stopped their studies, or have left school without canceling their study records will have their eligibility to resume studies revoked if they has broken the law during their time away from the university. (4) Once students have resumed studies, they will be placed in the appropriate class below their previous major class. 9 退 学 : 学 生 有 下 列 情 况 之 一 者, 应 予 退 学 : (1) 在 校 学 习 时 间 累 计 超 过 专 业 基 本 学 制 两 年 者 ; (2) 休 学 期 满 不 办 复 学 手 续 者 ; (3) 因 病 休 学 期 满, 经 二 级 甲 等 以 上 医 院 复 查 不 合 格 者 ; (4) 因 病 不 能 学 习, 但 不 办 理 休 学, 且 在 一 学 年 内 缺 课 超 过 总 学 时 1/3 者 ; (5) 经 过 二 级 甲 等 以 上 医 院 确 诊, 患 有 精 神 病 癫 痫 麻 疯 及 其 它 严 重 传 染 病, 不 适 宜 在 校 学 习 者 ; (6) 意 外 伤 残 不 能 坚 持 正 常 学 习 者 ; (7) 本 人 申 请 退 学, 经 说 服 教 育 无 效 者 9. Students in the following situation will be subject to dismissal from the university: (1) Students whose period of study exceeds two years beyond the expected period of study; 17

Anyone who does not pass the physical examination will be refused admission. Students who do not meet the health standards instituted in Chinese laws on sanitation and quarantine will be required to leave the country immediately at their own expense. 3 新 生 来 华 后 需 要 在 到 达 居 住 地 的 24 小 时 内 到 当 地 派 出 所 办 理 暂 住 证 New students should go to the local police station for a temporary residence permit within 24 hours after they arrive in China. 4 取 得 学 籍 者, 由 国 际 教 育 学 院 发 放 其 留 学 生 证 每 学 期 开 学 时, 本 科 留 学 生 须 按 时 到 国 际 教 育 学 院 办 理 注 册 交 费 手 续, 并 到 就 读 学 院 报 到 注 册 后, 才 有 资 格 参 加 学 校 教 学 计 划 安 排 的 所 有 活 动 因 故 不 能 按 期 注 册 者, 必 须 履 行 请 假 手 续, 否 则 以 旷 课 论 处 对 无 故 不 按 时 注 册 者, 逾 期 两 周 以 内 者, 给 予 严 重 警 告 至 留 校 察 看 处 分, 逾 期 超 过 两 周 者, 给 予 退 学 处 分 The School of International Education will issue student cards to enrolled international students. At the beginning of each semester, international students are required to register at the School of International Education and pay all school fees, and then register at the school of study. Only registered students are eligible to attend university activities. Any student who is unable to register on time must get permission for late registration or otherwise will be considered truant. The following disciplinary actions will be taken for those who register late without permission. For 20

23 those who are late for registration within two weeks, the student will be given a serious warning and probation from the university. For those who are late for registration more than two weeks, the student will be expelled from the university. 24 2. Course types (1) Compulsory courses: general compulsory courses and major compulsory courses, which students must take. (2) Optional courses: courses with the aim to enhance basic knowledge or develop students specialty. Students can choose by themselves based on the credit requirement. (3) Exemption for courses: If students have learned and passed the courses required in the curriculum, they could ask for exemption for courses such as Basic Chinese, Speaking Chinese, Chinese Culture, etc. In the first two weeks of each semester, written application should be submitted to the Academic Affairs Office. Those who achieve 75 or more in the exemption exam are approved for the exemption. The score of exemption exam is taken as the result of the course. The maximum length of study is six years. The credit system is a system to judge how much a student has learnt. Students can graduate after achieving enough credits as required in the curriculum. Credit is based on the teaching hours of each course. 三 考 勤 与 纪 律 Attendance and Rules 1 留 学 生 须 按 时 参 加 教 学 计 划 规 定 的 课 程 和 学 校 与 学 院 统 一 安 排 组 织 的 活 动 留 学 生 上 课 实 习 等 都 实 行 考 勤 因 故 不 能 参 加 者, 必 须 请 假 凡 未 经 请 假 或 请 假 逾 期 者, 一 律 以 旷 课 论, 旷 课 1 天 按 5 学 时 计 对 旷 课 学 生, 根 据 旷 课 时 间 多 少 情 节 轻 重, 给 予 批 评 教 育, 纪 律 处 分 直 至 开 除 学 籍 处 分 一 学 期 累 计 旷 课 超 过 70 节 ( 含 70 节 ), 作 退 学 处 理, 不 予 发 放 任 何 学 习 证 明 Students should attend and take part in activities as required by the university and the School of International Education. Attendance in classes and fieldwork will be checked. Those who fail to attend lessons or other activities for any reason should ask for permission. Students who leave without permission or take leave longer than a permitted leave time will be marked as truant. One day s truancy is considered equal to five periods. A punishment ranging from a reprimand to disciplinary measure and expulsion will be given to the truant in correlation with the amount of truancy. Duration of leave is generally limited to a maximum of two weeks. For leave of three days or fewer, approval must be obtained from the relevant school. For leave of three days or more, students should get permission from relevant school and the School of International Education (SIE) with the application form provided by SIE. Approval must be obtained before leaving. If a student leaves without permission for over 2 weeks or returns to school later than the permitted period without attending classes and/or fieldwork for over 2 weeks, the student will be expelled from the university. 3 留 学 生 享 受 我 国 传 统 节 假 日 及 学 校 的 寒 暑 假 若 逢 留 学 生 本 国 的 重 大 节 日, 留 学 生 可 向 国 际 教 育 学 院 及 就 读 学 院 申 请 休 假 1 天 此 类 休 假 每 年 不 得 超 过 2 次 International students follow the same schedule for Chinese festivals, holidays, and summer and winter break as local students. International students can apply for one day s leave at the relevant school and SIE on the occasion of important holidays of their home countries. This type of leave is applicable for a maximum of twice a year. 四 考 核 Assessment 1 成 绩 评 定 : 一 般 按 考 勤 平 时 成 绩 ( 作 业 测 验 实 践 考 核 等 ) 期 中 考 试 成 绩 及 期 末 考 试 成 绩 综 合 计 算 各 任 课 老 师 根 据 课 程 的 实 际 情 况 拟 定 各 项 目 在 总 评 成 绩 中 的 实 际 比 例 Course results are generally made up of attendance, any other test scores or other grades, midterm exam and final exam scores. Teachers can decide the different ratios of all these items in accordance of the actual situation. 2 考 试 要 求 : 学 生 缺 课 累 计 超 过 某 门 课 程 学 时 数 1/3, 取 消 该 课 程 考 核 资 格, 考 核 成 绩 按 零 分 计, 该 课 程 必 须 重 考 或 重 修 If a student is absent from more than 1/3 of the total periods in which that subject is held, the student will fail the course, cannot sit for the exams, and will be required to take the course again. 3 重 考 : 首 考 不 及 格 者, 或 因 故 未 能 参 加 首 考 者, 经 本 人 申 请, 学 院 批 准, 可 参 加 重 考 重 考 一 般 安 排 在 下 一 学 期 开 学 后 第 一 个 月 内 进 行 Students who fail an exam can apply for resit exam. Students who fail an experiment course, a project, or the internship must do it again. 五 学 位 论 文 及 答 辩 Dissertation and Oral Defense 1 毕 业 论 文 : 属 于 必 修, 一 般 安 排 在 大 四 进 行 毕 业 论 文 写 作 包 括 安 排 指 导 教 师 选 题 列 提 纲 拟 订 初 稿 定 稿 评 阅 及 答 辩 等 阶 段 The writing of dissertation, which is compulsory, generally begins in the 4th year. It includes stages as follows: supervisor selection, choosing topics, outlining, drafts submission, final paper, reviewing and defense. 2 答 辩 : 答 辩 工 作 一 般 由 指 导 教 师 及 导 师 成 员 组 共 同 组 织 完 成 答 辩 成 绩 是 论 文 总 评 成 绩 的 组 成 部 分 Oral defense is organized by module supervisors. Score of the defense makes major contribution to the dissertation. 3 成 绩 评 定 : 一 般 按 优 秀 良 好 中 等 及 格 不 及 格 计 分 The mark is ranked as Excellent Good Average Passed Failed. 六 毕 业 与 学 位 授 予 Graduation and Conferring of Degree 1 留 学 生 按 照 培 养 计 划 学 完 规 定 的 课 程, 取 得 规 定 的 学 分, 准 予 毕 业, 发 给 毕 业 证 书 符 合 学 士 学 位 授 予 相 关 规 定 者, 授 予 学 士 学 位 International students who complete all courses with enough credits as required by the curriculum can graduate and are granted the graduation certificate. Students who have met the requirements for a Bachelor s degree will be awarded a Bachelor degree. 2 未 符 合 毕 业 资 格 的 学 生 按 以 下 处 理 : (1) 毕 业 论 文 毕 业 实 习 不 及 格 者, 一 年 内 可 向 国 际 教 育 学 院 申 请 补 做 毕 业 论 文, 及 格 者 获 发 毕 业 证 书, 仍 算 原 届 毕 业 生 (2) 课 程 不 及 格 者, 一 年 内 可 向 国 际 教 育 学 院 申 请 重 修, 经 考 核 合 格 后, 获 发 毕 业 证 书 (3) 在 校 时 间 已 达 到 最 长 修 读 年 限 的 留 学 生, 不 享 第 2 3 条 规 定 2. Students who couldn t graduate will be treated as follows: (1)Students who fail dissertation, graduation projects, or internship can apply for the makeup assessments within one year. If students pass, students will be allowed to graduation. (2) Students who fail the repeat courses and the final makeup exams can apply to repeat the courses within one year. If students pass, students will be granted graduation. (3) The 2 nd and 3 rd rules are not valid for those who exceed the maximum length of study duration. 24
