In 2008, the HKRC has also launched the Domestic Helper First Aid Course to equip domestic workers the skills to protect not just their own lives but their employers family members. 40

3 急救與健康推廣 With the aid of sign language translations, the trainees with hearing impairment can grasp the knowledge easier. With the support of the Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, the HKRC has been able to offer free 12 classes of Standard First Aid Certificate course from October 2007 to August 2008 for the hearing impaired. Until end of March 2008, seven classes for 92 beneficiaries have already been organized. All graduates successfully obtained HKSAR gover nment recognized First Aid Certificates. In collaboration with Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service, the HKRC organized two classes of Practical First Aid Course for the mentally retarded people from April to September A total of 36 people were trained. We hope the training programme can improve the underprivileged groups self-confidence, abilities of self-protection and independence. To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of first aid training, HKRC produced the 30th Anniversary First Aid Kit (limited edition) for our volunteers and the general public. The slogan of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games (BJOG) connects and unites members of all branches of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC). In order to help train up over 100,000 first aid volunteers for the Olympic Games, the HKRC conducted the First Aid Instructor Enhancement Training Certificate Course for 2008 BJOGs upon invitation by the Beijing branch of RCSC in December The HKRC was then formally appointed by the RCSC to assist in providing systematic training First Aid Instructor Training Course for Red Cross Olympic Volunteers for all Red Cross branches in the host and co-host cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao. The training programme included first aid skills and basic life support, special trauma, automated external defibrillation, psychological first aid, disaster contingency, crowd control, teaching and assessment methodology as well as simulating exercises.
