11 4 : : The overall changes and regional differences of Chinese inbound tourists tourism consumption : XI Jian2chao 1, GAN Meng2yu 1,2, WU Pu 3, GE Quan2sheng 1 (11 Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research,CAS,Beijing ,China ; 21 Institute of Tourism, Fujian Normal University, Fuzhou ,China ; 31 China Tourism Academy Beijing ,China) Abstract :Inbound tourism is an important channel for one country (or region) to earn for2 eign exchange and to solve the employment. The number of inbound tourist s and foreign exchange earnings is a main indicator of t he country s (region s) tourism develop ment lev2 el, while t he inbound tourist s tourism consumption level and consumption struct ure is an important basis to reflect t he quality of inbound tourism consumption. This paper takes t he cro ss2section data of inbound tourist s tourism consumption from 1996 to 2005,construct s a series of the characterization indexes and takes an empirical a2 nalysis on t he changes and t he regional differences of t he inbound tourist s tourism con2 sumption. The result shows that in t he past 10 years, per capita consumption level of in2 bo und to urism has significantly increased, but t he co nsump tio n is still lagging behind. Chinese inbound tourism consumption structure in The Nint h 52year Plan has more changes,while after The Tent h 52year Plan it goes stable and rational. From t he regional differences of per capita consumption, compared wit h t he regional tourism foreign exchange earnings, in t he consumption struct ure of inbound tourist s,all kinds of expendit ures have shown a steady state, wit h uneven levels decreased over time. But compared to t he level of foreign exchange earnings of tourism, t he areas of hosting t he more foreign tourist s are low in t he level of per capita consumption, where t he growth of inbound tourist s was more dependent on t he overall expansion. So,t he research conclusion has an important realistic significance to t he develop ment of t he regional inbound tourism. The research shows t hat Chinese inbound tourism is still in a large2scale expansion p hase. Owing to t he effect s of consumer inertia, t he f ut ure increase in tourism consumption level and consumption structure optimization is still faced wit h many difficult tasks. Therefore, t he shaping and improvement of tourism consumption systems and securi2 ty system will create a relaxed environment for tourism consumption and t he optimal ad2 just ment of t he tourism product s supply struct ure will promote the quality of tourism con2 sumption,which will achieve t he level of inbound tourism consumption and t he simultane2 ous develop ment of inbound tourism,and achieve inbound tourism develop ment f rom quan2 tity expansion to quality and efficiency.
