56 Piano Sight-Reading Ching-Jen Wu Department of Music Eduication, National Tainan Teachers College ABSTRACT Sight-reading is the necessary skill and ability of piano player. But its importance is different in different persons' heart. Some think much of it, and others care nothing about it, they only care the playing skill. This article aims to make the players place stress on the piano sight-reading and make them understand its importance and concept. and through the principle and basic knowledge of piano sight-reading, the players can intensify their cognition and inspire their studying impetus, so as to appropriately use the skill in real sight-reading. For the actual music score reading, the article explores its basic operation content and mode in steps to make the players clearly know their training direction and objective in different step. Furthermore, by studying the appropriate sight-reading repertoire, it can be used as the reference when selecting the training material in different steps.
