* 330077 Abstract: Different ages have different mainstream literary genresand Ming-Qing Dynasties have Zhanghui novel as their representative genre. Though the concept of novel arose earlier in Chinait had difficulty in developing into a commonly accepted narrative genre owing to its trivialities. With the great efforts by scholars of Ming Dynastynovels became the leading genre of Chinese narrative literaturewhich contributed to the transition of the mainstream of Chinese literature from lyric to narrative. Succession of chapters with headings and episodic unitsdeeply influenced by the spatial combination of Chinese architecturewas the basic narrative structure of Zhanghui novel in Ming-Qing Dynasties. Narrative tradition did not come into being in Chinese literature until Zhanghui novel in Ming-Qing Dynasties. The close relationship between the formation of this narrative tradition and architectural space to a great extenthelped to bring about the formation of narrative tradition of Chinese literature.
