2015 1 71 * KEY WORDS Song and Jin Periods, Decorated Tombs, Tomb Making, Pattern and Painting Manual, Modules ABSTRACT This paper focuses on a group of Song and Jin decorated tombs that have parallel pictorial programmes. Through analysing the working traces remaining on tomb walls and aided by clues from a few tomb inscriptions, we can reconstruct much of the process of building brick tombs and decorating tomb interiors at that time. The study examines the ways in which these tombs were devised and made, and points out that standardized methods of producing pictorial and architectural elements are indicated from the process of tomb construction. 2009 1958 23 1 2 * 2011 11CKG008.
