1 Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students from the ASEAN Countries, and from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji Enrollment Scheme Hubei Provincial Department of Education established the Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students from the ASEAN Countries, and from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji for students who intend to study Chinese for one semester/one academic year or one-year foundation course in China. To make full use of the scholarship in international student education of Hubei University, an overall scholarship-student admission requirement is developed as follows. I. Scholarship Eligibility Applicants should be citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji or Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). II.Duration of Study Scholarship students will study Chinese language for one semester(5 months)/one academic year (10 months) or one-year foundation course (10 months) in Hubei University, China. III.Requirements of Applicants Chinese language program applicants should have high school degree or above, under the age of 35 years old and in good health. Foundation course program applicants should have high school degree or above, under the age of 30 years old and in good health. IV.Scholarship Coverage and Criteria 1

2 The scholarship provides full coverage on registration fee, tuition fee, textbook cost, one-off settlement subsidy of RMB1,500, one-off inter-city travel reimbursement, campus outpatient medical service and comprehensive medical insurance; Accommodation fee is under the overall planning and utilization of Hubei University which will provide scholarship holders with free dormitory rooms (usually double rooms);living allowance of RMB1,500 per person is granted on monthly basis. V.Admission Procedure 1.Application should be filed to Hubei University. 2.Download application form via download page of International College, Hubei University. 9 Attachment 3 Hubei University At a Glance Hubei University, jointly developed by Hubei Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education of China, is a key comprehensive university administrated by Hubei Province. Established in 1931, located in the center of Wuhan capital city of Hubei Province and a transportation hub in centrral China, the university covers an area of 300 acres. Hubei University has 18 academic faculties offering 77 undergraduate (bachelor s degree) programs, 5 doctoral degrees in first-level disciplines, 41 doctoral degrees in second-level disciplines, 6 post-doctoral research stations, 22 master s degrees in first-level disciplines, 145 master s degrees in second-level disciplines. The university has always laid emphasis on scientific research and has been actively engaged in national and regional independent innovation projects. Currently, Hubei University has 2 state key laboratories, 6 provincial key laboratories, 9 provincial research bases of humanities and social sciences, 1 provincial pilot test base. Hubei University attracts more than 1100 distinguished research faculty and teaching staffs. Among them, there are 620 professors and associate professors, 2 academicians, and 45 young and middle-aged experts. There are nearly 20,000 full-time undergraduates and college students, and over 4700 master s or PhD candidates. Each year, 200 international students enroll in different degree or foundation courses, including those students with Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship and Hubei Provincial International Student Scholarship. The students are also free to visit campus public 9

10 facilities including science and teaching buildings, academic exchange center, sports stadiums, university hospital, etc.the library has a collection of over two million paper-back books and electronic books respectively, making it a comprehensive information center. With an international vision, Hubei University keeps making breakthroughs in international exchange. It has established stable relationship of exchange and cooperation with more than 100 universities and research institutes in over 30 countries and regions. Hubei University has been accepting international students since 1960s, with approximately 200 international students of all academic levels at present. English-taught brand courses are especially designed for international students. Through joint effort of Hubei University and institutions overseas, multiple Confucius Institutes/Classrooms have been established in North America, South America and Europe. 10
