On the time axis of human civilization, technology has usually played the role of pioneer. With every new human discovery, concepts and philosophies change and new ways of life are produced which are eventually reflected in works of art that become the new face of culture. On the other hand, the human cultivation that art shapes also leads humans into new directions towards the discovery of new fields of thought. Technology and art have never been polar opposites; they have always co-existed and lived together, relying on each other in a cyclic manner as two indispensible sides of the same coin. In 2010, Barry Lam, the founder and chairman of Quanta Computer Incorporated, established the Quanta Arts Foundation, completing the process of moving "from technology to culture" while working to connect and advance them at the same time. 4 4 QRDC Soul and Passion Flying Amidst the Heavens If the image of the Quanta R&D Complex resembles that of a godly beast carrying heaven and earth upon its shoulders, then, on its chest, there hides a secret shrine: Quanta Hall. Brimming with enthusiasm and innovative spirit, this shrine spreads its inexhaustible energy to every corner of the company. With a succinct and upright layout, Quanta Hall features an extremely detailed and elegant design, as well as more than 500 burnt sienna seats facing its resplendent stage. What looks like a completely motionless state actually betokens a surging and turbulent motion. The on-stage performance and the off-stage interaction come together to form a complex computation. Through passionate details and technological craftsmanship, energy is transformed that propels the world forward. Some believe that technology and art are opposites. This is a false notion. In fact, all pursuits are artistic in nature. A poem, a symphony, a newly developed computer chip, or a new solution to an equation - these are all forms of beauty that the soul has created. They are the manifestations of mankind's desire to "fly amidst the heavens," explore the vast universe, probe the atomic world, compute ever-changing bits of the digital realm...- these endeavors are all ingenious and harmonious. How is a scientist not a philosopher? How is a scientist not an artist? This is why this inspiring shrine lies at the heart of Quanta. Through the cycle of motion and stillness, reality and fantasy, wakefulness and dream, romance and rationality, action and thought, and manifestation and sublimation, art makes our lives whole and more transcendent. The souls that are inspired here form a source for even more creativity. Maybe, the seed of inspiration is sown by the elegant movements of the dancers of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, the clarity of Nanguan music, the harmony of a Brahms Symphony, or the emotions of a Shakespearean tragedy. Quanta Hall and Quanta Arts Foundation are both the result of careful and meticulous design by chairman Barry Lam, and symbolize Quanta Computer's unmatched standing in innovative corporate culture. This allows Quanta to not just be a business enterprise, but a miniature world that mixes together various types of wisdom and knowledge. As time passes, people may come to realize that the contributions made to humanity by Quanta are not just limited to its technology products, but also the many immortal artworks borne from its foundation. 5 6 CreatingTrans-Art Concepts In 2010, the chairman of Quanta Computer, Mr. Barry Lam, assembled a group of prominent cultural figures, including Tzong-ching Ju, Hwai-min Lin, Gu-fang Lin, Nai- yuan Hu, Chu-wey Liu, Stan Lai, and Chung-heng Yang, to become the board members of QAF. This marked the beginning of QAF, which focuses on promoting performing arts and embodying "trans-art concepts." Like the rapidly changing IT industry, QAF, with its roots in technology, advances along with the times while exhibiting a unique, transcendent vision. QAF discovered the innovative change that technology can bring to the contemporary arts. Amongst a clash between tradition and modernity, the foundation chose the route of harmony through creativity. QAF actively served as a bridge for communication in the Chinese social fabric. It created further cultural achievements by challenging the status quo and overcoming barriers. Over time, these transcendent concepts coalesced into QAF's "ideas for art", which were to safeguard tradition while encouraging innovation. It develops contemporary art that stands at the intersection of technology and art, promotes communication and exchange amongst Chinese performing artists across the Strait and even around the world, and eventually presents Chinese performing arts to the global stage. 6 1 2 3 Eencouraging Technology Cross-strait and Promoting Creativity and the Performing Arts Cultural Exchanges 8 Implementation 9 of Trans-Art Concepts QAF intends to create a Renaissance in the Chinese society of a new era through a series of "trans-art" concepts, including Three cores of trans-art concepts encouraging and promoting creativity, technology and performing arts, and cross-strait cultural exchanges.

7 QAF believes that creation is the source of all values, including technology and art. Encouraging and Promoting 1Creativity 2011 No.1 It has invested its resources into the commissioned projects. With this, it hopes to encourage art creation and promote creativity, foster talents and art groups, and eventually accumulate the soft power of Taiwanese performing arts. QAF has established an incentive policy for the commissioned projects. Each year, outstanding art proposals are chosen and funded. The funding helps new generation of artists realize their creative visions. Furthermore, the foundation also assists in the promotion of superb artworks. Long-term art 2012 No K ROCKER creation and promotional activities lead new trends in the performing arts to arise. Since 2010, QAF started producing its own programs. The original artistic concepts, assembly of creative personnel, technical coordination, and 2011 final performances are all planned by the foundation &

8 Technology and the Performing Arts 2 XOR GRAME The Process of Death XOR Technology has not only shaped the ways people live, but also stands as one of the most important elements that has revolutionized modern stage design. Video art, laptop music, and interactive design have become a source of inspiration for artists. By fulfilling the role of a technology provider, QAF has led the field of tech art since its founding in 2010 by hosting the Quanta Tech Art & Performance Festival. It is the first official tech art festival to be held in Taiwan, and its Technology Art Laboratory was also the first art workshop targeting engineers, which opened a dialogue between art and technology. Huang Yi & KUKA / Furthermore, in 2011, QAF began to take part in the Ministry of Culture's Tech Art and Performance Flagship Program, resulting in the annual hosting of the Digital Performance Festival. At the same time, the foundation supports the Digital Art Performance Award, an event organized by Taipei's Digital Art Center, which provides young artists with a platform for communication and exchange in the field of tech art

Cross-Strait 3Cultural Exchanges 15 Under the conduct of the Ministry of Culture, QAF constructed Bravo Net, an Internet web platform for sharing information on culture and art, technical facilities of venues, and relevant policies of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, to help foster a mutual understanding between the performing troupes across the Strait. Currently, information on venues in more than 10 major cities is available on the site. Furthermore, a glossary of technical terms used in theatre in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan is compiled and translated into English. To provide front-line services, the foundation even established its first office in Beijing in 2012 to expand its scope in the facilitation of various exchanges. In 2012, QAF is promoting its first Cross-strait Youth Theater Festival, which aims to bring representative Chinese performances to Taiwan. In return, it promotes Taiwanese theater works at International Youth Theatre Festivals in Beijing. In the future, cross-strait performing arts festivals of various scales will be held to expand the scope of exchange and assist talented young artists to transcend borders and disciplines. 11 18 Art Intelligence QRDCQRDC2 1 Quanta Hall 2 3 Subsidiary Teams and Debut Platform The Cloud Perfect Combination of Software and Hardware QAF builds many software and hardware items, including the Quanta Hall, Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO), Quanta Theater, Quanta Choir, and the cloud platform. The new QRDC2 musical performance hall which is beside the QRDC has been actively planned. In the near future, it will enable Taoyuan and New Taipei City to become dazzling, new cultural centers. 19 ( )

13 Delicate and Neat Base for Making Dreams Come True 22 Quanta Hall Personally designed by chairman Barry Lam, Quanta Hall is a medium-sized theater and multi-functional exhibition center, located at the Hwaya Technology Park in Guishan Township in Taoyuan County. Built by master architect, Kris Yao, Quanta Hall was officially opened on April 21, Spacious and elegant, the dark-gray stairs convey a solemn simplicity. The red ocher seats are generously comfortable, and the wood sculptures in the form of seals on the wall merge classical and modern styles. Providing excellent acoustics for performances and lectures, this hall is the crowning achievement of seamless exchange between elite artistic and technological talent.

Through an alliance with performing arts groups, as well as its own production teams, performance and debut opportunities are created for new artists. Currently, Subsidiary teams include the Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra, Quanta Choir, and Quanta Theater.

15 Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra 2010 Established in 2010, the Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) demands the three requirements of "creative," "young," and "new vision." With members consisting of outstanding, new generation musicians from across Taiwan, QPO holds a special position and mission. With a new generation of Chinese composers, new music trends are pioneered. Each year, QPO routinely holds concerts in Taipei and other major cities. And, at Quanta Hall, it organizes "Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra Festival," which promotes select local programs and ponderings by a gathering of foreign masters. Each of the routine concerts constitutes a well-designed theme, while select composers are commissioned to create works. Concepts of "theater" bring different atmospheres to each concert. Currently, the most frequent conductors, Toni Huang, chief executive officer and guest conductor, Chih-sheng Chen, guest conductor Chun-chiang Chiu, and guest conductor Chan Wang regularly organize composers to discuss the creation of new works and promote the "Quanta Liang Yue" composition project. It is the hope that, within five to ten years, the enjoyment of Taiwanese works becomes a mainstream in music events. Additionally, QPO is actively involved in interdisciplinary performances, including musicals, tech art performances, and more. 16 Quanta Choir 28 Quanta Theater Established in 2010, Quanta Choir is comprised of employees of Quanta Computer and led by renowned chorus instructor, Frank Fang. Performing at internal company events so far, they might also participate in a variety of external activities in the future. Through chorus activities, employees are not only able to release some pressure from work, they can also enjoy the happiness and warmth brought by music. As a result, art and culture are able to reach every corner of the company. Quanta Theater actively plans creative projects and incorporates outstanding artists to create exquisite classics for the future. Founded in 2010, Quanta Theater incorporates diverse creative talents in literature, music, physical arts, design, and other fields. Through an "organic theater" mode of operation, it hopes to gather all sorts of people and resources to explore various performing spaces, and to provide a passion and spark for life
