Press release 22 nd, Mar, 2013 Galerie Ora-Ora proudly presents Halley Cheng s solo show at Art Basel HK 2013 Feng Shui Furnishing VS Taoist Priest (In Progress Detail #1), Ball pen, pencil, charcoal, oil based scientific brush and oil on wood, 194x92cm, 2013 For the upcoming Art Basel HK 2013 held from 23 rd to 26 th May, Galerie Ora-Ora is most excited to showcase Hong Kong Young Artist 2012 Award winner Halley Cheng s latest plywood painting installation series. Even at his young age, Halley has been defined as one of the most innovative artists in Hong Kong, winning numerous prizes and continuously impressing art critics and audiences with his original and distinctive skills and ideas. Living in a modern city like Hong Kong, Halley recognizes that people's perceptions are at times stereotyped. In view of this, for Art Basel HK 2013, Halley creates an installation based on his contemporary ink drawings and brings us into awareness of our mode of perception. As he draws without draft, intuitively he starts his painting by one character and develops into numerous objects, figures and plants. The artworks therefore become a psychological brain map of Halley s, a representation of his encoding and decoding of self, space, as well as subjectivity. With a style that often reminds us of famous artist Paul Noble, Halley favours to construct scenes with tiny objects on plywood, transforming the material into an ornate canvas. While applying layers of paint and stain, Halley uses modern common writing tools such as pencils, ball point pens, markers, etc. to draw tiny, fragmented images. As one looks closer, one may find characters from movies, games, mixed with trees and other interesting objects. Through his installation, audience will not only perceive Halley s world but also the influence of technology on our mode of thinking, leading us to re-examine our own autonomy against the domination of information technology. Halley hopes that rather than a mere reflection of a grandeur view of the world, his artworks will project a humble reality of things, stimulating audiences to re-examine their lives in a new perspectives.

About Halley Cheng During his professional career, Halley Cheng has had his works exhibited internationally in group shows and art fairs including Art Basel, Art Asia Miami, Art HK, and Fine Art Asia. Halley's works have won numerous awards including the Hong Kong Young Artist 2012 Grand Prize; have been collected by important collectors such as The Philippe Charriol Foundation and Bank of China; and hold auction records from Sotheby's. Born in 1986, Halley Cheng received his bachelor s degree in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008 and four years later obtained his masters degree in Visual Arts, Studio and Extended Media from the Hong Kong Baptist University. Press release 15 th, Apr, 2013 Galerie Ora-Ora 於 2013 香港巴塞爾藝術展隆重呈獻香港藝術家鄭哈雷最新木本畫裝置系列 風水置物大戰道士 (In Progress Detail #1), 原子筆, 鉛筆, 炭筆, 油性科學毛筆, 油彩木本, 194x92cm, 2013 Galerie Ora-Ora 很榮幸宣佈, 將於今年舉行的首屆香港巴塞爾藝術展 (5 月 23 至 26 日舉行 ) 期間, 為大家展示香港青年藝術家大獎得主鄭哈雷最新的木本畫裝置作品系列 鄭哈雷年紀雖輕, 但已為成最曯目的新一代本地藝術家之一, 憑著獨特的藝術技巧及觀點, 獲獎無數, 深受評論家及藝術業界賞識 生活在香港這個現代化都市中, 鄭哈雷非常了解人們的觀點總會存有偏見 因此, 他希望在香港巴塞爾藝術展, 透過自己的新水墨作品, 讓觀眾們反省及探討自己的認知模式 他繪畫堅持不作草稿, 以直覺為主導, 以一個物件演化出無限的的事物 人物及植物 作品也因而成為了他的思路圖, 表達他對自我 空間及主觀感覺的詮釋 鄭哈雷的藝術手法會令人們聯想到著名藝術家 Paul Noble, 但他的作品亦充滿自己的風格特色, 他將木本裝置轉化為畫布, 用鉛筆 原子筆 標記筆等常見的書寫工具為畫筆, 以很多零碎而微小的人或物來建構不同的場景 當你仔細地近看他的作品時, 會發現一些在電影和遊戲裡的角色, 並配上樹木和其他有趣的物件 看過鄭哈雷的木本裝置作品, 你不但融入他的世界, 還可以領會到科技對人們思考模式的影響, 讓你重新審視自己如何在資訊科技的控制下自處 鄭哈雷非常希望他的作品能夠反映事物最現實的一面, 而非一個籠統的世界觀, 這樣才能刺激人們以新角度去檢視生命
