International Conference on Inter-city Transportation( ICIT ) Announcement And Call for Papers and Participation TIME: November 5-7,2002 VENUE: Beijing, China Organizer: China Railway Society Cooperation: Scientific & Technical Information Research Institute, Ministry of Railways, P. R. China Background & Objective: Following the coming of the new century, the procession of urbanization in the world speeds up increasingly. China is a developing country and the cities are growing fast both in quantities and scales, and as a result the issues of Inter-city transportation are more and more prominent to which the government and social board attach importance. It is one of the main topics we are facing to develop Inter-city transportation systems quickly and economically according to the real demand of social economic development with the reference of international advanced experience. Inter-city transportation is also a tremendous potential market in which railways, highways and air transportation systems are all facing new challenges and infinity market opportunities. In the period of this conference, many issues related with Inter-city transportation will be discussed, for instance, Infrastructure planning concerning transport; Economical evaluation of project; Choices and applications of new technology; Comparative analysis of alternative transport means; Management of transportation enterprises; Sustainable effect of state policies on the field of transportation developments. Besides, keynote lecturers will be invited for plenary sessions and the panel discussions or round-table meetings will also be organized to focus on the relationship between transportation and social economic developments, globalization and transport services.
