Abstract Action Research of transforming life experiences into a story --Take Pottery Education at Da-Yun Primary School as an example Dedicated to education for 27 years, I have engaged in teaching visual arts for a long time. After returning from the Provincial Education Advisory Group in 1995, I started pottery education with the trust and supports from all the principals in Da-Yun Primary school. This research is written in a life-narrative tone starting with my childhood pottery experiences to the process of my first learning painting and pottery in my teaching career, and finally it depicts every single effort in constructing this pottery Utopia at Da-Yun in the last decade. The education value of pottery education is irreplaceable. Among various visual arts, pottery is students favorite. To display the outcomes of pottery education, the pottery equipments are essential. All the potteries can be exhibited in public places after being heated in high temperature. Students can gain self-confidence seeing their works displayed at school. Pottery education can also become one of the school features. During the teaching process in the last decade, I have tried to develop proper teaching material and methods. Several seminars and workshops are held for enhancing teachers enthusiasm and professional skills. With the help of the school staff and the students parents, pottery education at Da-Yun Primary School has become a valuable feature and won the recognition from all walks of life. This research was conducted within the process of instruction, workshops for teachers and Feedback for the educational outcome. Several points can be concluded as following: 1. Pottery is one of the most valuable visual arts. 2. Pottery education has multiple educational values in visual arts education. 3. Features of pottery education are as following: (1) including games in teaching. (2) innovating from traditional culture. (3) combining arts and life culture. (4) providing students with multiple materials and situations. (5) emphasizing on arts evaluating and commenting. (6) enhancing learning motivation with interesting instruction. (7) using modern technology teaching aids. (8). Enhancing students self-esteem through display of works (9) encouraging creativity and self-expression.
