Main A rticles This paper focuses on the construction and changes of W estern Aesthetic Spaceand discusses the evolution of Chi2 nese movies in the past 20 years. It tries to give a comp rehensive survey of the Chinese W esterns and discloses their relation with Chinese ideology in the transformation period. The paper consists of three parts: part one is devoted to the analysis of the discovery and construction of the Chinese western aesthetic space in 1980 s and its relation with the changes of Chinese ideology. Part two analyzes the intention of image creation that has broken the western restraints. Part three deals with the Americanized Chinese westerns and the Hong Kong2Taiwan Gongfu movies, whose function of sheltering and emp tying the western reality is revealed. The Ideology of Con tem porary Pa in tings W ang L in(99) If the last glory of modern art is the abstract exp ressionist painting, then, pop art and surrealist painting anticipates the transformation of contemporary art. The decline of painting in 1970 s had introduced the debate on the death of painting, while in Europe and America the revival of painting forces peop le to contemp late on changes in the postmod2 ern context. The concep tualization of painting is the condition for the existence of contemporary painting. W hat is ide2 ology? W hat is the relation of ideology with painting? W hy does painting become creation today? These are the ques2 tions that we cannot avoid, and what they ask are the reasons for their existence and the values that they pursue. The p resent Chinese fine arts must put them in sincere and dep th consideration. The Concept and H istory of Rea lism Cao Yiqiang(108) This paper discussesrealistconcep t in painting, trying to distinguish realism as a concep t and realism as a histori2 cal movement in art. The former consists of the philosophical paradox of realism, the instinct of realistic portrait and the making of images, and realism as the source of art, while the latter is concerned with the historical concep t of re2 alism, the relation between realism and historical painting, and the quality of painting in 19 th century Europe, espe2 cially of French realist painting.
