8 2017 turns out to be extraordinary for Hong Kong in so many ways - celebrating its 20th anniversary as a Special Administrative Region of China, welcoming its first female Chief Executive into office, significant developments toward environmental protection and rising of civic awareness in our society. What remains unchanged is the dire need for senior care service in our community CCAF also went through some remarkable experience this year. The support from the medical sector we received has been overwhelming - the many counts of free eye inspection for the elderly performed by Eye Care Charitable Foundation, the advice and program design of our Mild Cognitive Impairment program by Dr. Chan Wai-Chi (Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong), the sponsorship from Hong Kong Department of Health, and the endorsement from Hong Kong Jockey Club on our proposed MCI caring scheme. Such dedicated support is tremendously motivating to all of us. I take great pleasure in seeing our Board members formulate appropriate strategy for future development, and our Chief Executive painstakingly direct a professional team of nurses and social workers in executing our tasks. Our volunteers also continued their selfless participation to augment our cause. All these helped us move even closer to our goal for an independent and safe life for the elderly. The change in the Government this year suggests new possibilities to our work. The Elderly Services Programme Plan advocated by the Elderly Commission proposed to enhance community care service in achieving ageing-at-home and reducing hospitalization through community caring service. I look forward to communication with the Secretary for Food and Health to explore options for cooperation between local community service and mainstream government functions if the ageing-at-home policy is to be successful. In preparing ourselves for the challenges ahead, I hope to share with my philanthropic co-workers the six basic operating principles advocated by the Japanese management guru, Mr. Kazuo Inamori: 1 Diligence Our success relies on the trust from our supporters and the general public. We shall strive hard with passion to exceed the community s expectations of our service. 2 Humility Remain true and humble to our service users and the general public. Make the elderly feel at home with us 3 Reflection Reflect daily on our shortcomings and life s setbacks for future improvements. Develop unselfish minds, think good thoughts, and do good deeds. 4 Gratitude Always harbour genuine thanks to all our partners, whether they are our donors, our contributors, our supporters, our volunteers, or our service users. 5 Benevolence As the Chinese says, accumulate good deeds, and you will be rewarded in life. Being kind to others and practicing sincerity will turn our life and the lives around us onto a better path. Support to our work will follow as we as a society learn to be more altruistic. 6 Positive composure Do not prolong remorse over our failures.
