Adoption Horizons: Museum Technology Foresight James Quo-Ping Lin* Abstract Technologies have been applied in museum sector since the last half century. In the 2 1 s t c e n t u r y, museum professionals will be more aware of the impacts caused by the continuous evolution of new technologies in a museum context. In early 2009, the New Media Consortium and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative collaborated to produce a representative report - The 2009 Horizon Report. The report undertaken by the international researchers is to illustrate those emerging technologies likely to have impacts on learning, research, and creative expression within learning-focused organizations. Six key technologies, key trends and critical challenges are identified and outlined in the executive summary. The key technologies include Mobile, Cloud Computing, Geo-Everything, The Personal Web, Semantic-Aware Applications and Smart Objects. The conclusion obtained from the international perspectives will be inspiring and beneficial to museum practitioners.
