提昇產後護理機構產婦執行新生兒沐浴完整性之專案A Project to Promote the Integrity of Maternal Newborn Bathing in Postpartum Nursing Care Institution ABSTRACT Hsiu-Mei Liu, Yu-Wen Chen, Hsin-Ya Yen, Hsueh-Yu Chen* Newborn bathing is an essential baby-care skill for postpartum mother. Incorrect execution can lead to newborn injury, such as hypothermia, skin burn, erythematous change and swelling, and umbilical cord infection. These adverse outcomes may induce maternal anxiety and depression in postpartum women and reduce their confidence in assuming maternal role. The purpose of this article was to promote the integrity of maternal newborn bathing to assure the competence in newborn care. A study found the integrity of staff instruction for newborn bathing and postpartum women performance were 88.9% and 75.4% respectively. However the satisfactory rate of postpartum women on newborn bathing instruction was only 2.93 (out of 5). Several nursing measures were implemented in response to the situation, and they were: producing DVD film for newborn bathing, arranging monthly group education program, examining the integrity of staff instruction, and evaluating maternal practice. As result, the satisfactory rate from postpartum women rose to 4.62, the integrity of staff instruction rose to 100%, and the integrity of maternal newborn bathing rose to 92.1%.
