Religion and Politics Confusion of the Political Modernization in Contemporary Iran Jiang Zhen Abstract Since Islamic Shia became Iranian official religion it has experienced the process of participation withdrawal and dominance in the course of Iranian politics modernization and this causes Iranian political process to pace frequently back and forth between two big factors - religion and politics. From secular reform in Pahlavi dynasty to the practice of Khomeini theocratic political theory the competitiveness of religion and politics of Iran in seeking its development path in essence reflects positioning of the status of religion in modern society.
