The p roblem of using which strategy in what situation when mediator facing the conflict has long been an important field of study, yet surp risingly little we know about it. using the database of international mediations on 295 international conflicts from 1945 to 1995, the author builds a linear regression model w ith mediation strategy as a core variable, p revious conflict managem ent outcome and mediator rank as control variables, and m ediation outcome as a dependent variable. three kinds of m ediation strategies are regarded as dummy variables.
