Institute of Architecture and Interior Design, Shu-Te University A study on the Fire Safety of Interior Finishes: Residential Buildings in Kaohsiung City taken as Examples between the interior design of safety and skill tests of Scholastic StudentLiTaso - Hen AdvisorsDr. Chen, Yi-Tsung ABSTRACT With the change of residential concepts, the traditional attached housing, townhouse, and compound house are now being replaced by high-rise or skyscraper residential buildings. Such types of buildings may not only pose a threat to life and cause a large amount of property loss but also create concern over the fire safety of interior finishes and public safety. In addition to the fire fighting and fire prevention promotion on the part of the government and fire bureaus, fire prevention measures should be strictly followed. Accordingly, before the authorities concerned intervene, the building use management and fire prevention are currently the elements that most require improvement for high-rise and skyscraper residential buildings. This study takes a literature review as its foundation, coupled with interviews with experts, to better understand the deficiencies of the present laws and regulations, the behavior patterns of interior finishing companies, and the differences in fire safety. A case study is also conducted by taking the interior finishing projects of the high-rise and skyscraper residential buildings in Kaohsiung City as the examples. In light of the fact that the domestic studies on fire safety are incomplete and deficient in number, and that the management of fire safety is rather ignored, this study explores the fire safety of interior finishes to probe into the existing regulations and project implementation of interior finishes in order to understand the problems that may occur II
in the interior finishes of residential buildings. Since interior finishes are done within the buildings, understanding the basics of fire prevention is important; however, the thinking and behavior patterns of house owners should also be in line with those of interior finishing companies in order to optimize fire safety.
