4 National Chin-Yi University of Technology Admission Brochure for International Students Spring 2016 Study Period Master program: 1 to 4 years. Doctoral program: 2 to 7 years. Eligibility Applicants must accord with the policies of International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan Definition of International Students 1. Foreign nationals who have never acquired citizenship of the Republic of China (ROC) and are not overseas Chinese at the time of their application are considered international students. 2. Foreign nationals who have resided overseas for 6 consecutive years or more (by February 1, 2016)may apply as international students provided: (1)The applicant has never had permanent residence and domicile in the ROC if he has acquired ROC citizenship upon application. (2)The applicant has acquired ROC citizenship prior to application yet has legally divested from the ROC citizenship at least 8 years (by February 1, 2016) before the time of application. (3)The applicant of both the above categories has never attended any academic institution in the ROC as an overseas Chinese and has never attended any overseas college entrance examinations. 3. The applicants holding citizenships in foreign countries that have resided in Hong Kong or Macau for 6 consecutive years or more without household registrations in Taiwan (ROC) at the time of application(by February 1, 2016). 4. The former citizens of Mainland China that hold citizenships of foreign countries without cataloging for household registration in Taiwan and have been residing in foreign countries for six consecutive years or more by the time of applying(by February 1, 2016). Overseas means countries or regions other than Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Consecutive residence implies a stay in Taiwan of no longer than 120 days in an academic year. If the beginning and ending year of the overseas consecutive residence is not a whole calendar year, the identified year should be the residence in our country less than 120 days in that year. However, the duration of stay of the students that comply with one of the following conditions with legal documents will be exempted; the durations of their residence in Taiwan will not be counted as staying in any foreign country. (1) Attended the Technique Training Class for Overseas Youth operated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Council; (2) Attended the Chinese Centers for international students operated by universities and colleges accredited by the Ministry of Education for not more than 2 years; (3) Exchange students that have resided in Taiwan for not more than 2 years; (4) Internship in Taiwanese companies and organizations that are recognized by the central industry competent authority for durations of not more than 2 years. 5. International students applying for schools in Taiwan in accordance with the two previous articles shall be limited to one application only. Upon completion of the course of study, at a school in Taiwan, to 2

5 which an international student has applied, the student's admission to another school s academic level shall be handled in a manner identical to the admission procedures for local students. An exception is that an application for a master s degree or higher levels of graduate studies can be processed under the procedures of each individual school. 6. Applicants who have graduated from a high school, junior college or university accredited by the Ministry of Education of the R.O.C. may apply for admissions to NCUT. International students with high school degree or equivalent qualifications to that of Taiwan s academic degree system are eligible to apply for undergraduate program. Those with Bachelor degrees or equivalent may apply for master programs. Those with master s degrees or equivalent may apply for doctoral programs. For further details please consult the website of International and Cross-strait Education, Ministry of Education ( Application and Deadline Application: a) Application in person: Submit your complete application package to the Office of Academic Affairs (General Affairs Section) in person or by an authorized individual. b) Mail-in: Mail you complete application to: Office of Academic Affairs 57, Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Taiping, Taichung 41170, Taiwan R.O.C Deadline: Applications will be accepted from August 10(Monday), 2015to October 8 (Thursday), 2015 (postmark date). Late submissions will not be accepted. NCUT does not charge any application fees to international students. Note: It is the sole responsibility of applicants to ensure that their applications or supplementary credentials are kept organized and recognizable. Required Application Credentials 1. The check list(appendix 1) 2. The completed application form, with a 2 photo attached to each(appendix 2) 3. 1 copy of either Passport or Nationality Certificate. If you want to apply for Financial Aid, please provide a copy of your passport copy of Certificate of the highest education diploma and transcript (those in languages other than Chinese and English should be translated into Chinese or English) (1) Academic credentials from Mainland China: The Regulations Governing the Accreditation of Schools in Mainland China shall apply. (2) Academic credentials from Hong Kong or Macao: Academic Credential Verification and Accreditation Methods adopted in Hong Kong and Macao shall apply. (3) Academic credentials from other areas: 3

6 i. Academic credentials earned at overseas Taiwan schools or Taiwan schools in ii. Mainland China shall be regarded as the same as those at domestic schools with equivalent levels. Academic credentials referred to the preceding 2 Items shall be subject to the Regulations Regarding the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Academic Credentials for Institutions of Higher Education. However, academic credentials earned from institutes or branches established in Mainland China by foreign schools shall require public notarization in Mainland China and be verified and examined by an institute established or appointed by, or through a private agency commissioned by the Executive Yuan. When registering for school, you must have the Taiwan Embassy or representatives approve your diploma and transcript. If your diploma and transcript are not in Chinese or English, please have the Taiwan Embassy s or representatives approval of your translation. 5.A copy of bank letter certifying sufficient fund to support studies in Taiwan (at least NT150,000 or US5,000) The financial statement of the applicant should be issued by financial institutions, such as banks or more. Both the bank letter of a current account or fixed account is valid. If the bank letter is provided by the applicant, it should be stamped and verified by the bank. If the bank letter is provided by the applicant s parents, it should be notarized. If the applicant is supported by full scholarship provided by the government, colleges, universities, or private institutions, the financial statement may not be attached. When you register, be sure to bring your bank letter of US5000 or above. Otherwise, your registration may be disqualified. 6. A copy of health certificate issued no earlier the most recent 6 months (appendix 3). 7. A copy of autobiography in Chinese or English (approximately words) (appendix 4). 8. A copy of study plan written in Chinese or English indicating your motive of study, expectations, and future plans (appendix 5). 9. Photocopies of certificates or documents indicating the applicant s Chinese abilities or Chinese courses attended 10. The documents required the by designated departments. 11. 7 Miscellaneous 1. The academics of NCUT are conducted principally in Chinese (Mandarin). Individual academic programs reserve the right of determining minimum requirement standards based on their sole discretion when evaluating applications. 2. The NCUT Code of Conduct orders that a student may face expulsion and/or disqualification from NCUT and/or University issued certifications in the event of any cheating, plagiarism, falsification of information or documents, and dishonest presentation or submission of any University credentials. 3. If any foreign student applied for and granted with household registration, registration of moving-in, naturalization and recovery of ROC citizenship, he or she will lose his/her student identity, resulting in expulsion from school. 4. If any student that is expelled from school because of failure in conduct or academic performance, or charged and sentenced for imprisonment in criminal cases, he or she will be disqualified for re-application to any educational institutes in Taiwan (ROC). For those who violate this regulation will be disqualified for his/her admission or expelled from school. 5. Admitted applicants must present valid proof of medical insurance plans covering at least 6 months from the date of entry into the R.O.C. The evidence must be verified and validated by R.O.C. consulates/representative offices prior to submission. Continuing students shall present valid R.O.C. National Health Insurance certificate, which shall be effective throughout the period of studies. 6. In the event of late enrollment delayed for over one third of the semester, newly admitted students will not be permitted to register for the whole academic year. Students seeking studies in Master s programs, however, may consult with the dean/director of their program to defer their enrollment to the second semester. 7. All foreign students have full scholarship (tuition wavied) for the first year. Half scholarship (1/2 tuition +NT$8,000 to 10,000 cash stipend) is offered for eligible students since 2nd year, please visit ( 8. All received hard-copy application materials become property of NCUT and will NOT be returned to applicants in any circumstances. 9. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act of the ROC (Taiwan), the applicants information should be used and managed carefully to safeguard their personal rights. All information is used for application of enrollment to NCUT only. NCUT will uphold the responsibility of the prudent administrator to administer the applicants personal information, which is used for application purposes only. For all applicants of NCUT are regarded as granting the consents to our school to use the applicants personal information and academic records for the fair use in applications. NCUT will use the information to (1) notify the applicants and (2) prepare enrollment documents or students database. 10. If there is a discrepancy between the Chinese and English verision, please refer to the Chinese as reference. Matters not set forth explicitly in the Brochure shall be dealt with in accordance with NCUT Guidelines of International Students Admissions and settled by the international student admissions committee. 5

Graduate students with no expertise in industrial engineering & management or admitted on conditional basis must take and pass Introduction to Industrial Engineering & Management or Production Management. The passing grade is 60. Failed course must be retaken. These courses cannot be considered as graduation credits. 1. If your thesis advisor professor advises you to take the statistics class (6 credits), you must pass with a minimum grade of 60%. If you do not meet this standard, you must retake the class. Since this class is in the undergraduate program, the course credits will be excluded from your graduate program. 2. English or Chinese Language Test Certificates will be preferred. (Optional) 3. If you wish to graduate, you must meet a certain criteria. Graduate students with no expertise in management or admitted on conditional basis shall take and pass 3-credit undergraduate statistics. The passing grade is 60. Failed course must be retaken. If applicants have not yet taken system analysis, data base management, or Internet relevant courses, you must take Information System Operation and Management class. Master s program: Applicants that are non-landscape design major should take AdvancedLandscapeDesign (elective course; 3 credits). 7
