Tw o basic m ethods w ere u sed to ob tain data, one is cogn itive m app ing and the o ther is pho to recogn ition. F ive m ajo r facto rs that m ay influence the designative im age are exam ined one by one. H ence w e conclude that the fram e con stitu ted by roads, landm ark s, nodes and function areas con sist of the m ajo r pub lic im aginary of Beijing. T he Second R ing Road separates the inner city area from the ou ter city area and the quality of u rban im age is qu ite differen t in area from one part to the o thers. Based on the above conclu sion s and findings, som e u sefu l suggestion s are m ade fo r u rban p lann ing and design ing of Beijing.
