ABOUT In the light of rising urbanisation rates, climate change and the need for closer cooperation on sustainable city development, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang initiated the Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership in 2013. Minister Barbara Hendricks of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMUB) and Minister Chen Zhenggao of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People s Republic of China (MoHURD) signed a Joined Declaration of Intent on the implementation of the Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership in November 2015. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is commissioned by both ministries to implement the Partnership as BMUB and will work on sustainable and integrated urban development in China and Germany over the next four years. The governing structure of the Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership consists of a Steering Committee and an annual meeting of the Working Group on Urbanisation that involves all actors active in the Partnership. Every three years a High Level Forum on Urbanisation will be held alternately in China and Germany.
ACTIVITIES AND GOALS The Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership aims at promoting the exchange of experience, best practice and expertise between cities and provinces of the two countries on current issues of integrated and sustainable urban development. The exchange will be fostered by working with city networks and promoting city partnerships between German and Chinese cities. cials, municipal actors, urban planners, developers and other relevant stakeholders, sustainable and integrated urban development will be strengthened in both countries.
