Farmers livelihood and the sustainability of resource use:a case study in rural area of Wu Chuan County Sudesiqin 1,Sekine ryohei 2, Koganezawa takaaki 3 1.Center for Mongolian Studies of Inner Mongolia University, Huhhot 010021 China 2.Tohoku University, Japan Miyagi University of Education, Japan) Abstract: This study aims to discuss the present farmers livelihood and the sustainability of resource use based on a case study in rural area of Wu Chuan County. The results obtained are summarized as follows : Under the backgrounds of regional singularity of industrial structure, a scarcity of farmers income source, excessive use of chemical fertilizer and rarefaction of resource conservation consciousness, the 0.67 ha per capita farmland has been the only object for farmers to earn money for their livelihood. Over advertisement of chemical fertilizers effect and the temptation of some crop products high price have led to the farmers giving up the traditional crop rotation system, lapsing into the reliance on a large number of chemical fertilizer, replacing the crop rotation system with the repeated cultivation system and selecting simplex type of crop. Conclusively, it has turned out to be a bad circulation of resource overuse. Such blind conduct and attitude toward resource use have led to great harming on the land resource which is in bad condition originally and completely depends on natural rainfall. From the perspective of sustainable development, we need to make reconfirmations of natural resources, farmers attitude toward resource use and the present agriculture management system. It is important to protect limited natural resources. In the future, we should use all possible ways to conserve limited resource such as farmland.
