According to the announcement from the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority ( MPFA ), the Employee Choice Arrangement will become effective on 1 November Upon implementation, employees will have greater control over their accrued benefits derived from employee s mandatory contributions held in their contribution accounts. Employees can choose once per calendar year to transfer the relevant accrued benefits to the trustee and scheme for the management at their own choice. Nevertheless, the accrued benefits derived from the employer s mandatory contributions held in their contribution accounts will still be retained in the MPF scheme selected by the employer. As an employer, what do you need to be aware of with the Employee Choice Arrangement? The Employee Choice Arrangement does not have much impact on employers. Employers do not need to be involved in the process of transferring the employee s accrued benefits, as each employee should contact the new trustee directly. The MPF administrative arrangements handled by employers, such as employee enrolment, and reporting and payment of MPF contributions remain unchanged. Also, the Employee Choice Arrangement will not affect the administrative arrangements on offsetting of severance payments or long service payments. Nevertheless, you may want to stay aware of and updated on the news of the Employee Choice Arrangement in order to answer your employees enquiries. Do you know that there is a HSBC MPF Drop-In Box at those branches you can use to ensure your MPF documents go directly to the MPF Department for processing? HSBC MPF Drop-In Box is available at designated HSBC branches. It is convenient for employers to submit the remittance statement and cheque payment (if applicable) or other MPF documents. Simply place your MPF document(s) into the orange envelope provided next to the MPF drop-in box and deposit it into the MPF drop-in box. In addition to ease and convenience, submitting MPF documents via HSBC MPF Drop-In Box greatly shorten the circulation time of the document. Please note that it will take a longer period if your documents are placed at other drop-in boxes or handed in to staff at service counters. Make contributions for your employees on time 2. Notify the trustees of an employee s cessation of employment 3. You and your employees may refer to the statements and understand the contributions and balances of the MPF scheme/ account during the past scheme financial period. If your employees have not yet provided us with an updated correspondence address, we will distribute the sealed statements to your employees via you. Please distribute the statements within seven working days after receiving the statements in accordance with the MPF legislation.
