Counting down to 50, a series of events lined up by the TW50 Organising Committee, is in full swing to engage and energise Teckwahers. Besides the visit to Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home, the Innovation and Ideation (I&I) Day was also launched. The event slated for July, is a platform for Teckwahers to showcase innovation and creativity. Other notable TW50 highlights include Yong Lai Chee s 50 for 50 feat at the Standard Chartered KL Marathon on 8 April. Regionally, CSR activities were organised by Teckwahers overseas in commemoration of TW50. And let s not forget the latest updates on TW50 s Gala Dinner. Our Teckwah Chatroom has more details. Post-anniversary, we will prepare to enter the next 50 years in line with the rise of Industry 4.0. In our first 50 years of transformation, Teckwah had overcome challenges brought about by technological advancements. For the next 50, we have begun to gear towards Industry 4.0, starting with the recent adoption of state-of-the-art digital print technology and robotics that effectively automates our post-press operations, reducing manpower reliance and achieving productivity. Ex-Chairman and Chief Editor, Ms Jane Tang, has left the company on 15 May. In her 11 years with Teckwah, Jane played a pivotal role in strengthening CaiXun readership. Besides introducing improvements to elevate content quality and structure, she led the successful image refresh of CaiXun. We sincerely thank Jane for her leadership and contributions to the Committee all these years. This issue onward, Ms Chua Xing Ling assumes the role of Chairman and Chief Editor of the Editorial Committee. 3 3 Business Updates TECKWAH EMBARKS ON DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION Following January s Model Factory@SIMTech visit, Management engaged the research institute to formally embark on a Digitalisation programme. On 25 April, the Digital Transformation & Innovation (DTI ) Programme was officially launched in Pixel Red. The pilot programme features a methodology framework that enables business model transformation through leverage of digital technologies. Teckwah will determine its future strategies and objectives and understand its current level of digital maturity before identifying areas to develop and execute digitally-enabled initiatives that will transform our work environment into SMART spaces. The DTI programme is spearheaded by next generation leaders who will each drive a team of participants comprising members of Management, Heads of Departments and selected staff. Aligning people, processes and propositions, teams will focus on driving growth through reinforced strategies and business propositions, and achieving information and operational excellence to deliver these strategic promises through digitally enhanced processes. Embarking on the DTI programme is a momentous leap for Teckwah into a digitallycharged future onward to the next 50 years. ADOPTING ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION AT POST PRESS Management has a clear vision for the future of Print manufacturing - it will be automated, connected and value creating. Technology and Productivity Director, Mr Patrick Kam, actively seeks out the latest automation technologies to integrate its current lines of production to boost productivity and process capabilities. While several press and post-press equipment have undergone upgrades, Patrick and his team recognised that a productive end-packing process is equally as important. Keen to apply the use of robotics to end-packing operations, the team worked with suitable service providers to customise robotics to our operational needs. With the automated endpacking line, only one operator (as opposed to 4 operators) is needed to man the new line. This reduced reliance on manpower thereby enables the re-design of staff roles. With automation and digital technology adoption, staff can acquire new skillsets and knowledge that will help them stay relevant as we gear towards Industry 4.0.

4 4 Business Updates HAVE YOUR SAY: THE OCR PROJECT Have your say was created in response to staff s suggestion that CaiXun could involve readers by soliciting their thoughts and ideas about different topics. In this pilot edition, we asked our readers about the newly implemented OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Solution to streamline the Accounts Payable process in Teckwah Singapore. We thank our featured readers for contributing their comments, making this article possible. What surprised you most about this project? JO: There is traceability of invoices whether at the verification or approval stage. We are also able to know the total time taken from invoice receipt to invoice approval. SG: Lesser manual data entry for Finance Team and we can focus on more analytical aspects of accounting tasks. CC: Hardcopy invoices will not be required to pass to respective managers for their signatures. This decreases the chances of missing invoices. However, there are limitations where the system could not match the needs and requirements of some business units. How has OCR changed the way you work? CC: For my team, it only changes our process of invoice submission for management approval. As we do not utilise the SAP system for daily operations, the impact is minimal compared to SAP users in TVC. JC: The e-enabled process uses less paper and there s time saved from previously circulating the hard copy invoices. CN: OCR helped to minimise the large amount of paperwork and enable seamless approval of invoices. Previously, we received many sets of invoices and these had to be physically routed for approval. What was the biggest challenge faced since implementing the project? SG: In most cases, OCR is a better solution than manual data entry for capturing data on paper. But the new process requires lots of eye-balling of the digital copies and the need for manual input of missing data due to OCR s failure in character recognition if the print quality is poor. OCR also has its limitations - the process at ICT is only semiautomated. Is there anything else you would like to share? CN: The entire project was carried out smoothly. The user acceptance test allowed users to test and familiarise themselves with the interfaces. The overall design is also well thought-out. If anything has to be improved, it is that the font size could be bigger for ease of reading!

Teckwah was named the winner in the Folding Cartons - Food Packaging category at Hewlett Packard s 11th Digital Print Excellence Awards Held in conjunction with Dscoop Asia-Pacific 2018 in Seoul, South Korea, the category saw some 345 entries submitted from around the region. TVC Singapore s 2017 Christmas Advent Calendar - designed and produced in-house, emerged as the overall winner. Judged by a panel of business leaders from the graphic arts industry, the judging criteria was based on overall aesthetics, marketing effectiveness, shelf appeal, design suitability, innovation and best use of media and substrate. Well done, Teckwahers! PIXEL RED IS GREEN MARK (GOLD) AGAIN Teckwah s Pixel Red building has been re-certified the Green Mark Award (Gold) by the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore. In attaining this recertification, new improvement strategies have been put in place to uphold Pixel Red s Green Mark Gold rating. The new strategies have been translated into 3 main improvement plans and policies, namely the Energy Policy and Management Improvement Plan; Water Management Improvement Plan; and Environment and Green Procurement Policy. Pixel Red was first awarded the BCA Green Mark Award (Gold) in The Building Facility team, together with relevant support units, had worked with professional consultants and vendors on effective and efficient methods to optimise Pixel Red s building operations. One key benefit that emerged was the expertise gained in managing the indoor air quality that affects the health and well-being of Pixel Red s occupants. Being re-certified Gold, Teckwah is confident that Pixel Red and its occupants will benefit from the outcome of its improvement plans and policies. About the BCA Green Mark Scheme Introduced in 2005, the Scheme was implemented as an initiative to promote a sustainable built environment. Its framework provides applicants with improvement strategies to promote efficient energy and water usage and to assist with the building s overall operating efficiency. (Source: BCA, 2018)

6 6 Business Updates SD+ GETS A FACELIFT Teckwah s Service Desk (SD+) system was upgraded to a newer version on 7 May. The upgrade was rolled out to the Group s entities, except for China. Enhanced features have been designed to enable faster resolution of incidents and service requests through streamlined channels to the most suitable support teams in ICT. Prior to the new version rollout, users had undergone training conducted by ICT to guide them in navigating the new platform. Users could also download a soft copy of the training guide for subsequent reference and assistance. Besides a refreshed user interface, the request catalogue templates had also undergone a revamp to ease the usage of raising SD+ requests. The request catalogue now comes with user-friendly, well-thought-out templates for each category type. With essential technical information already prepopulated into each template, the process of completing the request form is further streamlined upon user selection of the template during an SD+ requisition. At the same time, the redesigned templates can now collect critical information for ICT s processing of user requests. PROGRESS ON PROJECT FUTURE KEY HIGHLIGHTS Did you know? The purpose of Project Future READY and the 5 key elements of the READY Framework were featured previously. This issue, Project Future READY s lead, Mr James Chua, shares key highlights of the project s progress: In improving Customer Responsiveness: Project Convert was implemented in response to the increasing trend of high mix, low volume customer requirements. High mix, low volume jobs are converted from traditional offset to be produced via digital print in doing so, printing waste is minimised without compromising on quality. In building a comprehensive knowledge system, leveraging Existing and Newly Acquired Domain Knowledge: Existing OJT Plan was enhanced to equip employees with refreshed and new know-how. For instance, a knowledge refresh training was conducted for operator staff on prevailing standards such as Current Good Manufacturing Practice. We are also in the process of embedding the Teckwah Spirit into staff s work ethos. In designing our systems for Dynamic Adaptation to Change with Deepened Capabilities: Knowledge Days have been planned to engage our key customers - aligning our capabilities with their existing and future needs. We completed a JD Refresh exercise to ensure employees job scopes are updated to reflect current and future business needs. Externally, we have engaged Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) for future recruitment prospects. More recently, the company-wide Digital Transformation Programme was launched to gear Teckwah towards Industry 4.0. The READY Framework is a powerful tool for scaling up Teckwah s quality management efforts. The team will continue to identify new areas of improvement opportunity while working on existing projects. It is a journey towards being Future Ready for achieving long-term success and sustainability.

7 SHARING THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF FINANCE CSR in Teckwah has encompassed giving back and contributing towards a more sustainable society. Besides proactively contributing towards the education of our future generation, we also identify relevant platforms to share our knowledge accumulated over the last 50 years. The 9th CFO Innovation Asia Forum is one such platform. Organised with over 50 industry experts across various industries and sectors, the 2-day Forum held over 9 & 10 May, covered significant trends and opportunities that will impact the global finance community. Corporate & Social Responsibility 7 Teckwah s Group Financial Controller, Mr Goh Yin Shian, took to the stage to chair one of the Forum s sub-series themed The Road Ahead for the Finance Function. Apart from facilitating the series, he shared key insights on the Future of the Finance Function in a case study presentation. When asked how he felt about the entire experience, Yin Shian commented, It was great to hear the experiences from major corporations like Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, Johnson & Johnson. Overall, it was a good experience to share and learn from Chief Financial Officers of multinationals and key enterprises. I will definitely participate and speak in similar events in the future. CEIBS EMBA STUDENTS VISIT TO TECKWAH Students of the CEIBS Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programme comprising business owners and senior leaders of large companies, visited Teckwah on 21 May. Co-organised by the Singapore Management University s Business Families Institute, the visit was part of an inaugural run of overseas modules for the China-based EMBA programme. The learning session at Teckwah was facilitated by Professor Jean Lee, co-director of CEIBS Centre for Family Heritage. Our Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Thomas Chua, shared the growth story of Teckwah and its transformation through the years with the students. He also shared his insights on aligning the company s strategic direction with the Government s economic direction. The visit ended with a tour of Teckwah s gallery wall - presented by Group Business Development Director, Ms Chua Ai Ling. 8 DUNMAN HIGH SCHOOL WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME Corporate & Social Responsibility 8 The colleagues are friendly and approachable. They are willing to provide advice and answer questions when we are in doubt. The working location is also in proximity to many eateries and transport is convenient. Mui Kai Eng Ean Cheng Yan Heng (bottom left) and Mui Kai En (bottom right) with POD department. Two Year 5 students from Dunman High School undertook work experience at Teckwah Singapore. Students, Ean Cheng Yan Heng and Mui Kai En, were attached to TVC s POD department between 28 May to 8 June under the school s Career Education and Guidance Programme. The programme was modelled after the Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Curriculum rolled out by the Ministry of Education. For pre-university students, the emphasis centred on career planning to enable students to make informed educational and career decisions. The school had hoped that the time spent in Teckwah could give their students an opportunity to explore a potential career in an industry sector (i.e. Printing) and learn in an authentic work environment. Through this 2-week experience, the students can attain positive work ethos and values such as punctuality, teamwork, taking initiative and responsibility; on a personal level, the students can deepen their understanding of themselves and future career interests. I learnt about the POD process flow - from receiving the artwork file to the final product, and gained an understanding of the high level of security within the department (i.e. no mobile phone or bags allowed). Ean Cheng Yan Heng MEET OUR INTERNS Teckwah welcomed students from the ITE studying a Higher Nitec Logistics for International Trade. Read on to find out more about their internship experiences at the various departments. Fon Ng Qixuan Fon Ng Qixuan applies what was learnt in school in her daily job which involves generating and tabulating operations reports. Attached to SRFR & CRU project teams in Pixel Red, Fon has picked up good time management skills which is essential in her preparations for exams. She has realised the importance of teamwork which enables her to work with the weaknesses and strengths of her peers. I feel very welcomed here. The people are outgoing and approachable which helped me to adapt to the work environment. My internship gave me a different outlook of the logistics industry and made me realise what I have learnt through textbooks may not truly reflect the actual experience gained here. My time here has been very enjoyable and I have learnt and gained new experiences.

9 Sherman Chan Sherman Chan is attached to MELS operations at our Toh Guan facility. Under the guidance of Assistant Warehouse Manager, Mr Samuel Tang, Sherman has learnt the administration process and operation duties, as well as, the importance of work ethos an attitude the school advocated in its students. The internship has taught him that this attitude applies to everything in life, not just at work. Corporate & Social Responsibility 9 I did not know what to expect before my internship started as I had never worked in a warehouse or logistics environment before. Thankfully, my colleagues and especially my mentor, Mr Samuel Tang are very supportive, patient and helpful. I was encouraged to ask questions if I was unsure. The lessons and skills I have learnt here will stick with me for life. Joel Michael Pereira Joel Michael Pereira, is attached to the JNE team in Pixel Red. During his internship, he is tasked with administrative work for overseas shipments such as preparing invoices and co-ordinating with forwarders for collections. In addition, Joel assists in inventory management by performing activities such as picking and binning, utilising JNE s inhouse inventory management tool. Teckwah has a good environment and friendly people that has helped me gain a lot of knowledge and experience. The staff here are experienced and can answer my questions or assist me if I need help. Subramaniam S/O Siva Ananthan Subramaniam S/O Siva Ananthan reports for internship at the Consumer Care Operations in Toa Payoh. He is stationed at the Redemption counter, providing inventory management support where he performs weekly product stock-take and handles customer enquiries on products. During his internship, Subra has learnt to use the SAP system which is relevant for when he officially enters the workforce. In addition, he has picked up effective communication skills and enjoys work-life balance. I feel that Teckwah treats everyone equally, whether an intern or a full-time employee. I felt very bonded with the team. Serving my internship in Teckwah has given me a great opportunity to learn new things that are relevant to my course. Working in Teckwah gives me a remarkable sense of belonging.

10 10 Staff Activities STAFF APPRECIATION DAY CUM TW50 APP ROADSHOW The Staff Appreciation Day cum TW50 App roadshow was held on 29 March. Co-organised by Staff Well-being Committee and the TW50 Organising Committee, the event marks an important milestone for the TW50 Celebrations thus far. Teckwahers were invited to the multi-purpose hall for some drinks and snacks. There was even a food station serving freshly made muah chee a glutinous rice treat topped with crushed peanuts or sesame. While enjoying the treats, staff were encouraged to download the newly launched TW50 App, and learn to navigate and use key functions such as liking a post as well as posting a comment or photo on the Digital Noticeboard. Teckwah was ranked 26 out of a total of 327 participating organisations at the National Steps Challenge Season 3 ( Challenge ), which ended on 30 April. The result placed us at the top 10% in our industry and we were also the 2nd most improved organisation in the month of March*, winning a cash reward of S$1,500! This achievement was possible thanks to the commitment of participating Teckwahers who clocked in as many average daily steps as they could. Gift vouchers were awarded to our top 10 participants (check out their personal achievements). The cash reward shall be channelled into an upcoming Staff Appreciation Day for all Teckwahers. Post-Challenge, the Staff Well-being Committee encourages Teckwahers to stay active and continue the habit of walking! On 13 March, Zheng Xian participated in an annual University Sports Festival at Seri Kembangan in Selangor, Malaysia where varsity teams including the alumni came together to compete in sport. Zheng Xian represented his alma mater - Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, in volleyball. His alumni team emerged overall champion! 13 13 Training Business & Development Updates Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cgmp) is a regulatory standard that ensures the manufacturing of products occurs within a controlled environment and adheres to quality and consistency standards in line with customers product specifications. Being cgmp-compliant is critical to Teckwah as we serve our customers in the Biomedical and Pharmaceutical segments. In upholding cgmp standards, staff from TVC attended in-house training to refresh their cgmp know-how. Conducted by Technology and Productivity Director, Mr Patrick Kam - on 24 April and 2 May, participants were trained to interpret and adhere to standard operating procedures, observe good personal hygiene, and regularly perform cleaning activities on equipment and work areas. Whatever I learnt from this training, can be applied to my daily work. For instance, when handling food and consumable products, I have to put on my head cap and hand gloves to maintain hygiene. Tan Soh Bee, Line Leader cgmp AWARENESS TRAINING This awareness training has taught me that every small effort counts in reducing waste. For instance, we can help save electricity by switching off our computers at the end of each day. By practising good 5S, we can improve cleanliness, safety and increase productivity. Chin Wan Yim, QA Leader GDPMDS CONVERSION AWARENESS & INTERNAL AUDITOR TRANSITION TRAINING In 2015, TWL achieved the accreditation for Good Distribution Practice for Medical Devices (GDPMDS) TS-01 Revision 2.1. With the certification up for renewal in 2018, in addition to recent revision of the GDPMDS TS-01 Revision 2.1 standard to SS 620:2016 Good Distribution Practice for Medical Devices Requirements (SS GDPMDS), an awareness training was held on 19 April. It was conducted for both internal auditors and selected staff required to be equipped with the new knowledge of the SS GDPMDS standard prior to embarking on the transition. Participants also learnt about the new standard, differences in scope between the old and new standards, transition process, audit methodology, as well as, auditor s roles and responsibilities. About the SS GDPMDS Developed by SPRING Singapore under the Singapore Standardisation Programme, this standard is applicable to importers, wholesalers and outsourced service providers dealing with medical devices in Singapore. Companies certified to SS GDPMDS should develop a quality management system that conforms to the requirements and demonstrate the ability to ensure the quality and integrity of the medical devices throughout the supply chain. (Source: Health Sciences Authority, 2017) This training provided us the awareness for the conversion to new standard and differences in both frameworks. It also helped me to understand the implementation and fulfillment of requirements in the new standard. Randy Ng, Program Manager

14 14 Training & Development KNOWLEDGE SHARING WITH TPPI Colleagues from TPPI - our packaging facility in Batam, Indonesia - comprising Business Development, Planning, Production and Quality Assurance, were in Singapore on 6 & 7 April to learn more about offset and digital print processes at TVC Singapore. Day 1 comprised a theory session conducted by Production Manager, Mr Reynard Cheong, and Technology & Productivity Director, Mr Patrick Kam. Day 2 focused on practical learning where the team observed actual print processes at TVC s manufacturing facility. Senior Regional Business Operations Director, Mr James Chua, also shared his knowledge and experience with the team. TPPI is traditionally known for their corrugator production capabilities. With customers increasingly requesting for offset packaging solutions, the team recognised the need to enhance their knowledge beyond corrugator to better serve them. The most challenging part comes when customers have better product knowledge than us. This training is a good chance for us to improve our product knowledge to provide the best solution and service to customers. The more knowledge we have, the more confident we are. Michael Grevano Tan, Senior Sales Executive TPPI S INTEGRATED AUDIT TRAINING Following a successful conversion of ISO standards from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2004 to ISO 14001:2015 at the start of this year, the TPPI team organised an Integrated Audit training focusing on ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. The 2-day training held on 26 & 27 April, comprised of staff from the operator to managerial levels. An external consultant was engaged to conduct the training in the native language, ensuring staff fully understood the requirements of the new standards. In doing so, it ensures work is carried out by staff in full compliance with ISO standards.

15 INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AWARENESS TRAINING Teckwah adopts a holistic system to integrate key components of its quality management and operations. The Integrated Management System (IMS) integrates the 3 key standards salient to the business: ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). IMS knowledge is essential. On 31 May, an in-house awareness training was conducted by Group Quality System and Asset Protection Manager, Mr Norman Lee, to newly joined staff of Teckwah Singapore. The training included an introduction to the 3 standards, the impact of these standards to the business, benefits of IMS and key roles and responsibilities. Participants also learnt about our Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (QuESH) policy and other relevant Management Systems in Teckwah. The session was well-paced and informative. I understand better the scopes of Teckwah s various IMS systems and their relevance to ongoing operations. As most attendees are newcomers, we appreciate Norman s consideration to communicate information in an easy-to-understand manner. Leon Lam, Business Executive Training & Development 15 WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HEALTH COMMITTEE TRAINING The Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Committee was set up in Teckwah to ensure the well-being of staff from the perspectives of workplace safety, health and security. The Committee promotes awareness around occupational ESH and provides information and guidance on the establishment of Teckwah s ESH Management Systems. In 2017, a new ESH Committee was established comprising new and existing members. A 2-day training was conducted on 10 & 11 April to equip Committee members with knowledge of the prevailing Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Regulations and how to conduct ESH monthly meetings, workplace audits and inspections. Participants learnt how to enhance workplace safety at Teckwah by knowing how to identify, intervene and investigate workplace-related hazards, accidents and incidents. The trainer is very experienced - giving many real-life examples and explained how to interpret WSH regulations. 16 16 Teckwah 50 Celebrations CULTIVATING TECKWAH - I & I The core value of Continuous Improvement is to inculcate in Teckwahers an attitude for continuous learning and improvement through creativity and innovation. In Teckwah, 50 years of transformation did not happen without continuously innovating our business and operating models. To continue cultivating innovation at Teckwah, the TW50 Organising Committee officially launched the inaugural Innovation & Ideation (I&I) Day. The event - slated for July, is a platform for Teckwahers to present innovative concepts, ideas and/or solutions in relation to Teckwah s current and future challenges, new breakthrough opportunities and ways to improve processes. Winners for the most innovative projects will be selected! I was taught to look at things in different angles to spot for opportunities. I have also learnt to identify the different types of individuals and their strengths and weaknesses - which can assist in effective delegation of tasks to the right team members. Terry Lee, Senior Logistics Executive To prepare for I&I Day, a training programme, Spinovator Toolkit How to Find Creative Solutions to Problems, was carried out in several runs from 9 to 13 April. Attended by Teckwah Singapore staff, the programme taught participants the concepts of creativity and innovation, and ways to foster ideas, spot opportunities and identify future needs of the organisation. The Spinovator Toolkit applies to any situation and helps staff examine current processes and develop practical solutions and experiences. Staff unable to attend the workshop will be able to participate in an in-house session to be conducted by HR and members of I&I Committee. This course is simple to understand and is applicable to our daily work. It teaches how everyone can complement each other and work as a team. 17 FEATURED I&I PROJECTS ENHANCING PROCESSES THROUGH TECH ADOPTION Post-Spinovator workshop, Teckwahers have established teams to come up with innovative and creative projects to be showcased on I&I Day. To date, 7 project teams have been formed. For a glimpse of the projects to be presented, CaiXun is featuring 2 proposed ideas that explore the use of technology to improve work processes. Teckwah 50 Celebrations 17 PROJECT #1: Problem statement: Currently all Finished Goods (FG) vouchers are generated by Quality Assurance (QA) personnel after FG undergoes outgoing QA inspection. These FG vouchers can only be created and printed at designated QA stations which is inflexible and incurs more time for staff. Proposed solution: To build in flexibility thus achieving productivity, the team proposes the use of a handy, portable device to facilitate QA inspection and allows QA to generate FG vouchers from the nearest printer. PROJECT #2: Problem statement: A large amount of resources and time is invested in cycle count and stock-take activities manual and mundane processes but necessary in ensuring inventory accuracy. Proposed solution: The team is exploring the use of latest technologies to increase productivity of such activities and reduce manpower reliance where staff can be better deployed for other value-adding tasks. The Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2018 attracted more than 38,000 runners on 8 April in Malaysia. Fellow Teckwaher and veteran runner, Ms Yong Lai Chee, took part in the marathon. Every runner has a personal race story. In celebration of TW50, Lai Chee had volunteered to cover an additional 8KM to make it a total distance of 50KM! Colleagues from Teckwah Value Chain Sdn Bhd were at the race site to cheer Lai Chee on and even completed the last 500 meters together with her. 50 FOR 50 Congratulations and thank you, Lai Chee! Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to her for this innovative idea. She did an amazing job - completing 50KM in 4 hours 42 minutes 59 seconds. Bravo! Key to successful marathon racing, as Lai Chee advises, is putting enough mileage to get the body accustomed to running for long periods of time. What attracted her to marathons? She enjoys long distance running which provides the opportunity to explore scenic routes as well. Apart from this marathon, Lai Chee was also proud of her achievements in past races - coming in 1st in her age group for the Taipei Expressway Marathon and 1st in Local Veteran category for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Happy that this idea turned into reality. 18 18 Teckwah 50 Celebrations TECKWAH 50TH ANNIVERSARY FORUM Knowledge sharing has always been Teckwah s way of giving back to the business community. With humble beginnings as a family business, Teckwah experienced many challenges in our 50 years of transformation. While not all family businesses begin in the founder s backyard (as did Teckwah s), there are common challenges faced. The Teckwah 50th Anniversary Forum held on 25 May, was a platform designed to facilitate discussion while gaining expert advice on challenges of succession and transformation in family-owned enterprises. The brainchild of our Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Thomas Chua, and organised by the TW50 Organising Committee, the event attracted participants of current and next generation family business owners. Esteemed professor of Management, long-time friend and business advisor to Teckwah, Prof Jean Lee was invited as the Forum s facilitatorcum-lecturer. Having researched extensively into Asian and European multi-generational family businesses, Prof Lee s wealth of knowledge and experience translated into an interactive dialogue where she fervently explored key ideas and frameworks for successful business continuity and transformation process. In her balanced delivery of examples and concepts infused with East-West insights, Prof Lee spoke and touched the hearts and minds of her audience. More about Prof Jean Lee Prof Jean Lee has worked with many multinational and local organisations, which included Teckwah. Together with the Management of Teckwah, Prof Lee authored the book Change vs Unchange The transformation of Teckwah. Published in 2000, it served as educational material and case study for the Executive Master of Business Administration programme at the National University of Singapore. My deepest gratitude to the Teckwah 50th Anniversary Forum and to President Chua, for his generosity and thoughtfulness in marking a celebratory milestone with this distinctive event. 19 UNITY IN STRENGTH BUILDING A STRONGER JOINTAC In conjunction with TW50 celebrations, a teambuilding event was organised by the Jointac team between 20 to 22 April. The 3-day outdoor development programme commenced soon after work with the team travelling 5 hours to arrive at the event location in Xianju County, Zhejiang Province. After resting for the night, the event officially kicked off the next morning with an outdoor high element nature course, with activities like rock climbing, tightrope walking, and abseiling. Despite initial fears and uncertainties displayed in some colleagues, they ultimately took on the challenge and everyone successfully completed the obstacle course. ride on the beautiful calm waters was a good respite from the bustle of work. While the event was a true test of strength and willpower, it provided a platform for bonding and relaxation. Jointac has emerged a stronger and more united team onward to the next breakthrough! After lunch, the team pressed on to their next activity scaling up the Shenxianju mountain. The mountain s scenic beauty brought out the best climber in everyone; it was a much-needed push when the going got tough. Arriving at the peak, the hard work and perspiration immediately turned into fulfillment and joy. On the final day, the team headed to Yong an Brook to experience traditional water rafting. The relaxing, nostalgic Books, whether digital or physical, have become a ubiquitous source of knowledge. Certain genres of books can even transport its readers to a world of fantasy and imagination. The lack of access to good books can hinder reading ability and interest, potentially impacting mental and spiritual growth. Presently, there are people who may never have that reading experience, nor set foot in a library. These people are the youths of rural China - a population of over 100 million. Against their well-read peers, the gap created by the lack of access to books will continue to widen if action is not taken. In line with TW50 s CSR outreach, Teckwah Trading Shanghai is doing their part to benefit these village youths, especially to children who wish to read. Reading at a young age helps to cultivate the mind and spirit, positively contributing to a better upbringing. Hoping to fulfill this, the staff of Teckwah Shanghai gathered at the reception area on 11 May to donate their pre- TECKWAH TRADING SHANGHAI SENDS LOVE AND HOPE WITH EVERY BOOK loved books. The act of donating a book conveys love and hope for these village youths. The event included activities such as photo-taking and the commemorative signing of a handmade heart-shaped giant paper cutout where staff penned words of encouragement and blessings to the beneficiaries of this charity event.

20 COMING TOGETHER, Caring For All Every moment is an opportunity for us to serve and bring goodness to the people around us. Giving back to society was one of the key themes of the TW50 celebrations. In April and June, Teckwahers from Tokyo and Singapore sent joy and smiles to residents of 2 local senior homes through song and games. Let s recount their experiences! SINGAPORE Following our contribution to the children of Club Rainbow, TW50 s 2nd CSR activity brought colleagues of Teckwah Singapore to the senior residents of Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home. 30 volunteers visited the home on 2 June. Besides assisting to serve lunch, volunteers, including our Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Thomas Chua, serenaded residents with a karaoke session. It was heartening to see everyone enjoying the songs as they hummed or sang along to familiar tunes. Teckwahers also mingled freely and played Bingo with the residents during which they all received specially-prepared gifts for their participation. We are thankful that Teckwah organised this CSR event before this, we were keen on voluntary work but did not have the opportunity to do so. Our takeaway is that regardless of how busy we are with work, we should value quality time spent with family, especially with our parents and the elders. TOKYO Colleagues from Teckwah Value Chain Japan Co., Ltd (TVCJ) participated in their first CSR activity on 21 April. The event was organised by Hands On Tokyo a non-profit organisation, which took the team to visit Hakujuso ( 白寿荘 ), a senior home in Meguro, Tokyo. Volunteers were assigned to different groups to assist the residents in activities such as manicure and hand massage; board games like Bingo and Shogi - traditional Japanese chess; colouring activity and making beaded accessories. The residents particularly enjoyed playing Bingo. Everyone gathered to sing Fuji no Yama (or Mt. Fuji), at the end of the activities. The event was a good opportunity for TVCJ to bond and contribute back to society as well. 42 上海展通 团队建设活动 配合德华50周年庆, 展通在4月20至22日组织了三天的户外拓展训练 下班后 我们驱车5个小时 深夜抵达浙江仙居县 2日上午的活动是 飞拉达, 包含 垂直向上 走钢丝 飞檐走壁等路段 有些同事因为恐高 怕平衡不好或体力 不支而想打退堂鼓 第一轮参加的同事分享了经验后 大家都接受了挑战 顺 利完成 午餐后 马不停蹄的赶往神仙居山脚下 分组登山寻宝 神仙居是最能体现爬 山精神的景点 当你累趴时 当你绝望时 总有一股力量催着你向上攀爬 抵 达终点时的兴奋 让所有累和汗水瞬间化为笑容 次日 我们来到了永安溪进行漂流活动 溪水清澈 笑语回荡 大家仿佛回到 了童年 工作中的压力和紧张得到了尽情的释放 短短三天拓展训练 锻炼了 身体 磨炼了意志 陶冶了性情 加深了友谊 实事证明了我们是一个坚强的 团队 期待着下一次更大的突破 有这么一群人 可能从未进过图书馆 鲜少有机会接触课本之外的好书籍 也许有一天就丧失了阅读的兴趣和能力 除去物质上匮乏 他们在精神和 心灵成长上与同龄人拉开巨大的鸿沟 这个群体人数过亿 他们是乡村少 年 留守儿童 在德华50周年庆来临之际 配合一连串的庆典活动 德华商贸 上海 心 系乡村少年的精神成长 为了帮助那些想读课外书的农村孩子们 为了拥 有课外书不再只是孩子们的梦想 全体员工在5月11日一人捐出一本书 并 在爱心特制签名墙留下亲笔签名 写下祝福语 传递一份爱 播种一份希 望 活动地点就在公司前台处 最后 全体员工拍照留念 德华商贸 上海 爱心公益活动 放飞爱心 书送希望

43 携手努力 关爱社会 我们每时每刻都有机会帮助和关爱身边的人 回 馈社会是德华50周年庆祝活动的主题之一 东 京和新加坡德华员工通过歌声和游戏 为当地2 家安老院带来欢乐和微笑 让我们一起回顾他 们的经历 新加坡 继彩虹俱乐部儿童捐赠物资后 德华50周年庆组委会举办第二轮企业社会责任 活动 30名志愿者于6月2日造访李亞妹安老院 除了给老人们准备午餐 大家 也和着熟悉的旋律哼唱卡拉OK 集团主席兼董事经理蔡其生和老人一起唱歌 志愿者们还和老人们聊天 玩宾果游戏 老人们也收到精心准备的礼物 东京 于4月21日 德华价值链日本参加第一轮企业社会责任活动 活动由非盈 利组织Hands On Tokyo主办 造访东京目黑区的安老院白寿荘 志愿者 分为不同的小组 负责替老人们剪指甲和按摩 玩宾果游戏和将棋 传统 日本象棋 填色和做手工串珠配饰等 他们特别喜欢玩宾果游戏 最后 大家一起合唱 富士山 此活动给予同事增进感情和回馈社会的好机会 和团队一起拜访安老院是特别的体验 大家都充满爱 心 努力帮忙 享受与老人们一起活动 其乐融融 志愿者们为老人们带来欢乐微笑 也学到了志愿服务 的精神 我希望明年庆祝德华价值链日本公司成立15 周年时 能举办更多回馈社会的活动 我们感谢德华举办这次活动 之前 我 们都希望参加志愿工作却没有机会 这 次活动中 我们意识到工作再繁忙 也 一定要多花时间陪伴家人 尤其是父母 和老人 北岡真由美 业务拓展经理 雷施雅 助理主管 张文婷 高级账单管理员 陈威频 高级项目经理
