6 如何深入參與 IETF 會議 IETF 會前準備參加會議前, 準備好預期參加的場次, 與準備提問的問題儘早規劃時程,IETF 會議期間飯店與交通都需要事先提前安排參加星期日 Newcomer Orientation 場次, 認識其他新人認識其他資深 IETF 工程師, 分享經驗主動參加, 爭取各項義務工作需要耐心, 標準制定需要相當長時間 ( 四年以上 ) 發言需要麥克風前排隊, 討論時不作人身攻擊可以學習從簡易的議題開始,BoF 議題相對容易 6

7 IETF 標準文件格式 IETF 標準使用的語文為英文直到現在皆使用 ASCII 編碼目前文件逐步接受 XML 格式仍舊需要產出純文字檔 plain text, HTML, 與 PDF 即便經過 45 年, 所有人都還可以閱讀舊的標準參考 1969 年,RFC20 的內容與說明 7

8 Ethos of the IETF IETF 使用開放標準程序所有人都可以參加討論即便無法參加會議, 仍舊可以參加 mailing list 討論所有文件都是線上開放, 提供公眾讀取獨一無二的網際網路 One Internet 開放標準目的是建構一個全球唯一的網際網路將相容性與可擴充性需求極大化避免特殊規格通訊協定 Contributions are judged on merits Rough consensus and running code 粗略共識與程式碼可操作性 8

9 IETF 關注的問題問題需要被解決避免特殊通訊協定研究需透徹, 更需要技術上能夠落實與執行問題範圍清楚定義並容易明瞭社群同意特定的解決方案解決方案預期可以在合理時間內發展成功參與人員願意投入時間工作 9

10 在下面情形下,IETF 可以發展得很成功參與者關心並想解決這個問題參與者以所有利益關係人整體利益為依歸儘管如此, 仍需要避免下列情形 IETF 曾經有很糟糕經驗, 當問題需要與其他不同的標準組織共同討論解決時因此其他組織重疊的問題領域盡量避免介入, 除非重大關鍵問題, 或其他組織對問題與合作方向有高度共識 WEBrtc 與 RTCweb 兩個工作小組就是 IETF 與 W3C 合作順利的典範 10

11 IETF 組織結構 IETF 並非實體的組織機構每年 3 次會議, 每次約 1000 到 1200 人參加約 120 工作小組 WG (working group) 有六大領域 (areas), 每個領域由 2-3 位 Area Directors 帶領一般領域 General Area 由 IETF 主席帶領 IESG : 領域管理, 標準審核 IAB : 資訊架構規範, 對外關係, 整體組織監理 IAOC : 預算, 合約與智財權 11

12 網際網路學會 Internet Society (ISOC) 作為 IETF 與 IAB 法定機構 IETF 與 IAB 都不是法定實體機構美國 NSF 停止 IETF 秘書處資金補助後, 由 ISOC 提供 IETF 秘書處功能與營運 IETF 管理主任是 ISOC 員工, 負責 IETF 對外合約與支援 IETF 運作 IETF 提名委員會由 ISOC 主席任命, 提名委員會再提名選出 IETF 各領域所需要的領導者 12

16 Working Groups 工作組 WGs 是標準與技術準則訂定最主要的機制 IESG 參考 IAB 意見核可 WG 憲章, 包含基本上以短期存在為目的針對特定問題來產出解決方案沒有正式會員, 開放所有人參與每一個 WG 都建構一組 mailing list WG Chair 設定會議程程指派文件編輯者與 WG secretary 判斷並決定是否達成粗略共識 Rough Consensus 16

A fundamental requirement in this work is to not disturb the current use and operation of the domain name system, and for the DNS to continue to allow any system anywhere to resolve any domain name. The group will not address the question of what, if any, body should administer or control usage of names that use this functionality.
