The Shanghai Museum staff uses their perseverance and creations to cultivate a museum culture, and to link the past and the present. Major Events Yuan blue-and-white porcelain (By Weiyang) Masterpieces of Early Chinese Painting and Calligraphy in American Collections (By Pengpeng) Articles on Special Themes A review of the Symposium on Yuan Blue-and-White Porcelain (By Xia Beibei) From 19th to 21st October of 2012, the Symposium on Yuan Blue-and-White Porcelain was held by the Shanghai Museum at its auditorium. There are more than 200 participants from overseas and regions as well as Chinese provinces, which include UK, Japan, Iran, Russia, USA, the Philippines, Thailand, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Korea, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. More than 50 theses have been written for Symposium, and altogether 47 participants have presented their theses on the symposium sessions. Topics of the theses include as follows: 1. General introductions to the Yuan blue-and-white porcelain; 2. Production timing, nature and origin; 3. Exports and overseas finds; 4. Collections and excavations; 5. Special topics; 6. Crafting techniques and laboratory tests. Excavations Major fi nds at Zhi-Dan-Yuan Yuan-dynasty Sluice Site in 2012 (By the Archaeological Dept. of Shanghai Museum) From February to June of 2012, the Department of Archaeology of Shanghai Museum has made a third excavation to Zhi- Dan-Yuan Yuan sluice site (Plate 2). The main task of this excavation consists of shipping away the backfill and a third archaeological digging. This article introduces the major finds upon excavation. Vision on Cultural Relics White Xing wares made in Tang dynasty (By Ding Xujun) On the album leaves by Li Liufang: Ten Scenic Spots in Wuzhong (By Li Weikun) Li Liufang is not a stand-out artist among the late Ming literati. However, the leading master of the then art arena, Dong Qichang, thought highly of him that his painting techniques would last forever. His album leaves, now in the collection of Shanghai Museum, Ten Scenic Spots in Wuzhong, was painted for a friend named Zou Mengyang. The album includes wellknown scenic spots in Suchow, which are Huqiu, Hills and creek, a pong called Hengtang, a lake named Shihu, a rock named Lingyan, a bridge called Hushanqiao, Tianchi, a mountain called Shigongshan, a raised plot called Maogongtan, and Tianping Mountain. These paintings recorded the scenic spots that the artist had been to, and are deemed being of the typical style of the artist. 6
