BIBLID 1026-5279 (2005) 94:1 p. 99-113 NATIONAL CENTRAL LIBRARY BULLETIN 2005 no.1 (2005.6) 113 The Construction of Reading Culture in Taiwan Society Nei-ching Yeh Abstract The article intents to introduce the existing reading phenomenon in Taiwan based on two reading surveys, book publishing volume, subscribing rage of newspaper and magazine, the usage and lending rate of library collections. Besides, the methods of promoting reading movement by government and private institutes are elucidated. The author finally proposes some suggestions about society s reading culture including cultivating reading habit, respecting different reading interests, working on reading research with ethnography method and elevating reading materials accessibility.
