Hopes for Taiwan Mission to Become A Big Tree An American preacher once said: Little is much when God is in it. This refers to the Parable of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13: 31-32): although the mustard seed is the smallest seed, yet when it grows, it becomes the largest of all garden plants. Its branches can even be shelter for birds. Do not fear being small, but fear whether or not God is in the midst of us. Although Taiwanese Christians are only a small fraction of the Taiwan population and the conditions for Taiwan mission may not be favorable, however, through the work of the almighty

TMF has been continually establishing new ministry channels to reach out to overseas Taiwan students, broken families, Hakka ethnic group, cancer patients, prisoners, and victims. The first seminar of Mission Training School Taiwan Mission History is scheduled to take place in June. In 2008, the number of our supporters doubled surprisingly despite the global economic crisis. If it were not God s mercy and blessing, where would this amazing grace come from? Even though the Taiwan Christian population is still considered to be insignificant, there are thousands of them in the greater New York area and over fifty thousand overseas. If every Taiwan believer around the globe* obeys God s commands to spread the gospel in Taiwan, the goal of having 10% of the population become Christian in Taiwan is just around the corner. As we embark on a new year together, dear friend, let us all hope that Taiwan mission will grow from a small to a big tree that channels blessings to our beautiful and beloved homeland and its people. *[Note: The percentage rate of Taiwan Christian population has been understood to range between 2 ~3% for decades. 4.13% Christian rate was calculated in 2007 by Pastor John S.T. Chu of Christian Resource Center in Taichung, Taiwan. It is still waiting for the verification and public acceptance by the Taiwan Christian Community. Bilingual Bible is well received In a short span of eight months, we have given out 60 bilingual Bibles to churches in Ohio, Georgia, California, New Jersey, and New York. Our goal is to encourage churches and fellowships to actively establish Bible study groups for overseas Taiwan students and forming relationships with them.

The little seeds for Taiwan Mission that TMF sowed in Spring 2007 has sprouted and touched many hearts. One of them is Dr. Shughong Young, who has volunteered to lead TMF s Medical Mission. Together with Fellowship of Taiwan Christian Church in Greater New York (FTCCNY), the TMF Medical Mission is planning to have two medical seminars on cancer, on May 3rd and June 14th respectively at QTEC. On May 2nd, there will be another Community Health Fair in Long Island Taiwanese Church in collaboration with Indian and Hispanic Churches. Ministry for the Strawberry Generation You don t have to be ashamed of having someone in the family who is considered a member of the strawberry generation - youth that, due to family issues or other causes, are emotionally fragile and unable to become self-reliant. It is our wish that the writers and stories of this book about Taiwan mission be cross-church and cross-denominational. It will contain precious and inspirational stories of overseas Christian groups and individuals that have participated in spreading the gospel both in Taiwan and overseas Taiwanese communities for the last fifty years. We sincerely hope that you or your church can participate in this great endeavor by submitting to us stories of your own experience or of someone who has touched your heart. In doing so, we can share our experiences with future generations so that they will remember and follow the footprints that have remained along the path. This book will be published bilingually, in Chinese and English. It is ideal if you can submit your story in both languages. However, it is all right if you are only able to write it in one language, as we will have translators available. Please keep your story short, not exceeding two pages, so that we can include as many wonderful stories as we can in the book. Please include your name or the author s name in your submission. If you have any pictures, DVDs or CDs to support the story, please send them to us as well. As a small token of our appreciation, you will receive a new book as a gift for your participation. We began on the East Coast then moved through the Mid West and finally headed Southeast. TMF was invited to share our vision and ministries at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitestone New York. The members of the church are predominately Caucasians and Indians. We used this opportunity to encourage Lutheran brothers and sisters to support Taiwan mission work. The Lutheran church has assigned a

Now we have prayer warriors from ten regions in all. The Caruthers Creek Community Church in Canada prays for TMF in its prayer meeting every Monday. (2) On 2/23/2009, the coldest day among TMF prayer meetings, 28 degrees Fahrenheit mingled with chilly winds, we had 13 warriors, the most ever, fervently praying for the Lord s presence just like Jesus disciples prayed and waited for Holy Spirit to come. Thanksgiving--- The Story of TMF Office Dr. Cheng Chie Lin s book, The Strategies of Mission Movement in the New Century, correctly predicted in 1996 that home office workers would become a force to be reckoned with in the 21 st Century. In 2007, eleven years after that prediction, TMF was founded and its structure reflects that prediction. The coworkers of TMF live in different areas: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Georgia, California, Canada, and Taiwan. We are able to collaborate with one another by leveraging our home offices in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Not only does TMF not need to spend a dime in renting office space, the home office also provides us a virtual workspace that is as vast as a universe.

Page 12 From time to time, we do need physical places to organize our activities. We appreciate that Pastor Johnson Yu from QTEC has consistently lent us a hand by giving us permission to use his church for our 2007 annual convention and many Mission Training School meetings. Pastor Peter Chen from Ta- An Church has also generously lent us space for our Mission Training School meeting. Pastor David Peng from First Presbyterian Church in New Jersey has given us tremendous by allowing us to use his church for our 2008 thanksgiving convention and coworkers meeting. We sincerely thank them for their help and generosity. When Immanuel Lutheran Church s Indian Pastor, Johnson Rethinasamy, first heard on January 22, 2009 that TMF did not have its own place for meetings, he voluntarily offered TMF use of his church space, saying that space is not a problem. He also invited TMF co-workers to share our vision at his church in Whitestone. Moreover, he also invited President Eileen as a speaker to share TMF at the Lutheran Seminar to be held June 23-26 at Concordia College. The Lutheran Church has assigned Minister Mimi Wang to organize an hour long music event to introduce Taiwanese culture. We sincerely invite you to participate in this event, which will present the beauty of Taiwan and share the importance of Taiwan mission to other ethnic groups. Elder Samuel Siau of New Jersey Reformed Church and Pastor Chu-Liang Chao of Winfield Reformed Church have also offered their churches respectively for the class of Mission Training School. The newly elected Chairwoman of Long Island Taiwanese Church, elder Li-Tsan Lin, has also extended her warm welcome to TMF to use her church for its ministries. We deeply appreciate their good will and generosity. Behold! God showers us with His blessings. This is proof that all resources are indeed in the hands of God. He surely provides in times of need! Lin (left 1) of Los Angeles community cancer patient and elderly ministry, visited RC Chen (on wheelchair) and the blind Wen Chiou (left 2) at Pacific Nursing Center in El Monte, CA in 8/08.
